The rheological properties of highly concentrated polymer bonded explosive simulant were studied by using poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) with 30 and 60% vinyl acetate (VA) content as a binder, respectively. Calcium carbonate and Dechlorane, whose physical properties are similar to resarch department explosive (RDX)'s, were used as fillers. The suspensions were mixed in a batch melt mixer and it was possible to fill 75 v% at maximum. From dynamic mechanical analysis, Dechlorane showed higher interaction with binder resins than that with calcium carbonate fillers. The effects of microstructural change on the rheological properties of the suspensions were investigated by a plate-plate rheometer with constant shear rate and constant shear stress modes, respectively. The theoretical maximum packing fraction of EVA31/Dechlorane suspension obtained from Krieger-Dougherty equation was 70 v% and it was thought that 2000 Pa was proper shear stress condition for this melt processing.

Casting of metal matrix composites is an attractive process since it offers a wide selection of materials and processing conditions. Among the casting methods, melt-stirring technology is much attractive route in industrial application because it is more simple and inexpensive compared to squeeze casting or powder metallurgy. In the present work, effects of particle size, volume fraction of particles and mg addition on mechanical properties and thermal expansion coefficients of $\alpha$ -$Al_2O_{3(p)}$/LXA composites were studied. It is shown that $\alpha$ -$Al_2O_3$ particles formed at the interface of $\alpha$ -$Al_2O_3$ particles and matrix made an important role on mechanical properties. Ultimate tensile strength of most composite materials was not increased. But in the case of 5vol% addition of 16$\mu\textrm{m}$$\alpha$ -$Al_2O_3$ Particle, Ultimate tensile strength of composite materials with 3wt.% Mg was increased. Volume fraction of reinforcements and mg content were thermal expansion coefficients of composite materials were decreased.
The objective of this study was to formulate itraconazole semisolid dosage forms and characterize their physicochemical properties. Itraconazole and excipients such as polysorbate 80, fatty acids, fatty alcohols, oils and organic acids were melted at $160^{\circ}C$. The fused solution was then cooled immediately at $-10^{\circ}C$ to make wax-like semisolid preparations. Their physicochemical attributes were first characterized using differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry. The solubility of itraconazole in semisolid preparations and their dispersability in the simulated gastric fluid were also determined. Our semisolid preparations did not show any distinct endothermic peak of a crystalline form of itraconazole around $160-163^{\circ}C$. This suggested that it was changed into amorphous one, when it was formulated into semisolid preparations. In addition, the distinctive functional peaks and chemical shifts of itraconazole were well retained after processing into semisolid preparations. It could be inferred from the data that itraconazole was stable during incorporation into semisolid preparations by the hot melt technique. In particular, itraconazole semisolid preparations composed of polysorbate 80, fatty acids and organic acids showed good solubility and dissolution when dispersed in an aqueous medium. It was anticipated that the semisolid dosage forms would be industrially applicable to improving the bioavailability of poorly water-soluble drugs.
The effect of the chemical structure of the peroxide crosslinking agent on the reactive crosslinking reaction of EVA was investigated and the physical properties of the crosslinked EVA were studied as well. It was found that peroxide with one peroxy group (perbutyl peroxide) is more effective than peroxides with two peroxy group (2,5 dimethyl 2,5 di(tert-butylperoxyl) hexane and 1,1-di(tert-buthylperoxy)-3,3,5-tri-methylcyclohexane) in melt reactive crosslinking reaction of EVA. The rate of crosslinking was increased by the use of crosslinking acceleration agent but the noticeable effect on degree of crosslinking was not found. Crosslinking caused the lowering of melt flow ability of EVA but mechanical properties were enhanced by the crosslinking of EVA.
We evaluated the applicability of baking soda, charco'al, coffee, and green tea as a natural deodorant in Kimchi packaging. Moreover, to evaluate the potential usage of these deodorants in packaging materials and confirm their applicability in high-temperature melt-extrusion processing, the thermal stabilities of the deodorants were investigated, and heat-treated deodorants were evaluated in terms of the deodorizing function compared with non-treated deodorants. Aroma patterns were decreased after deodorizing treatment with all-natural deodorants. Dimethyl disulfide, methyl trisulfide, and diallyl disulfide, the most significant odorous Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of Kimchi, decreased after treatment with the deodorants. In particular, baking soda and charcoal showed the highest efficiency in removing odorous compounds and VOCs from Kimchi, even after high-temperature processing. The acetic acid removal rates for both baking soda and charcoal were 99.9±0.0%. The heating process increases the deodorizing effects of baking soda. Sensory evaluation results showed that there is a significant increase (p < 0.05) in the overall preference for Kimchi samples packaged with charcoal and baking soda. This study provides useful information for the deodorization effects of natural deodorants for Kimchi smell and their applicability for packaging materials.
The morphological changes during melt compounding of ternary blends containing various combinations of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS), methyl methacrylate-butadiene-ethyl acrylate(MBE), styrene-acrylonitrile(SAM) copolymers, and poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) as dispersed components in a fixed matrix of polycarbonate(PC) have been investigated. Depending on the composition of the blend, MBE particles and PMMA phase appear to locate at the PC-SAN interface under the influence of interfacial tensions and motion induced coalescence. The interfacial viscosity is found to be a critical factor that affects the amount of coalescence.
Interest in rapid solidification of magnesium alloys stems from the fact that conventional ingot metallurgy alloys exhibit poor strength, ductility, and corrosion resistance. Such properties can be improved by microstructural refinement via rapid solidification processing. In this study, Mg-Zn alloys have been produced as continuous strips by melt overflow technique. In order to evaluate the influence of additional elements on the grain refinement and mechanical properties, Th and Zr were added in rapidly solidified Mg-5wt%Zn alloy. Then the microstructual observations were undertaken with the objective of evaluating the grain refinement as function of the cooling rate and the additional elements. The tremendous increase in hardness of Mg-Zn base alloys was mainly due to the refinement of the grain structure by the effect of rapid solidification and alloying elements. The formation of intermetallic phases on the grain boundaries may have a positive effect on the corroion resistance. Therefore, despite competition from many other developments, the rapid solidification processing of magnesium alloys emerges as a valuable method to develop superior and commercially acceptable magnesium alloys.
The purpose of this study was to process bio-active glass ceramic composite, reinforced with sapphire fibers, by hot press. Also to study the interface of the matrix and the sapphire fiber, and the mechanical properties. Glass raw materials melted in Pt crucible at 1300$^{\circ}C$ during 3.5 hours. The melt was crushed in ball mill and then crushed material, ground and sieved to $<40{\beta}{\mu}m$. Sapphire fibers cut (30mm) and aligned. Powder and fibers hot pressed. The micrographs show good bonding between the matrix and the fiber and no porosity in the glass matrix. This means ideal fracture phenomena. Glass is fractured before the fiber. This is indication of good fracture strength. EDXS showing aluminum rich phase and crystalline phase. Bright field image of the matrix showing crystalline phase. Also diffraction pattern of TEM showing the crystalline phase and more than one phase. Strength of the samples was determined by 3 point bend testing. Strength of the 10vol% sample was approximately 69MPa, while strength of the control sample is 35MPa. Conclusions through this study as follow: 1. Micrographs show no porosity in the glass matrix and the interface. 2. The interface between the fiber and the glass matrix show no gaps. 3. Fracture of the glass indicates characteristic fiber-matrix separation. 4. Presence of crystalline phase at high processing temperature. 5. Sapphire is compatible with bioactive glass.
In the present study, the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of $Al_{71.6}Ge_{28.4}$ eutectic alloy have been investigated. Stable (fcc ${\alpha}$-Al and diamond cubic ${\beta}$-Ge) and various metastable crystalline (monoclinic, rhombohedral) phases were produced by competitive phase selection during non-equilibrium processing methods i.e. melt spinning and injection casting. The as-injection casted samples containing metastable-equilibrium eutectic (${\alpha}$-Al + monoclinic) structure showed much higher strength than samples with equilibrium eutectic (${\alpha}-Al+{\beta}-Ge$) structure but plasticity disappointingly diminished. In order to endow the enhanced ductility without significant strength drop, the alloys was heat-treated at transition temperature from metastable phase to stable phase. The annealed specimen displayed the phase transformed microstructural evolution and enhanced macroscopic plasticity.
The wearplate with Cr-C has been used in condition of severe abrasion. Recently, the demand of wearplate made by hardfacing with Cr-C has increased in the world, but it is lack of supply and expensive due to low productivity. CMAW (Compound Metal Arc Welding) is very useful process of several welding methods to make wearplate. In this paper, twin torch CMAW to use twin torch at the same time was developed to improve productivity and to ensure quality of wear plate. When the distance between two touches was smaller than 30mm, arc blow was occurred. However when the distance was larger than 35mm, there was no arc blow any more. If the oscillation path of each torch was overlapped together, the melt through at the overlapped zone was occurred due to concentrated heat input in substrate. On the other hand, the turning point of each torch was open more than 5mm, separated bead was generated. Therefore twin torch CMAW which has adequate conditions was able to make wearplate having flatter surface at the bead connection than single torch.
