Oil-absorbable nonwovens were produced by melt-blown processing of polypropylene chips. The melt-blown processing conditions, such as air pressure, and gear pump speed, DCD. In this study, these three factors were chosen to produce samples. Experimental array and variance analysis of the design of experiment were used to increase the field repeatability and universality. The effect of the factors on oil absorption properties of melt-blown nonwoven fabric such as oil absorbency were evaluated. As a result, the fiber diameter decreased as gearpump speed decreased or air pressure increased. The oil absorbency increased as air pressure increased or gearpump speed decreased and with the DCD increasing the oil absorbency significantly increased.
To add alloying elements into a pure copper melt, the wire-feeding efficiency of cored (alloy containing) wire was evaluated using a commercial, computational fluid-dynamics program. The model design was based on an industrial-scale production line. The variables calculated included wire feed rate, melt temperature, wire diameter, melt flow rate and wire temperature. Efficiency was evaluated after a series of calculations based on the penetration depth of the alloy-wire into the molten copper bath. Of the five variables investigated, the wire feed rate and wire diameter were the most influential factors affecting the feeding efficiency of the cored-wire.
The accumulation of space charge in PE/PE/PE laminates was investigated using the low density polyethylenes having different melt indices from 0.25 to 45 g/10 min. Both heterocharge and homocharge accumulated in parent polyethylenes depend on the value of melt index. A general rule found in this study was that the heterocharge decreases as the melt index increases and finally the homocharge accumulates when the melt index is very high. Because of this reason, PE laminates showed different charge formation characteristics depending on melt index of polyethylene. Details of up to date results are described in the text.
A numerical model based on the SOLA-VOF method, which can calculate the transient free-surface configuration of the melt, has been developed in order to analyze melt flow in the investment mold. The computational results were compared with experimental results obtained from pure aluminum investment casting. Heat transfer analysis, with and without consideration of melt flow effect has been performed. It can be concluded that analysis of melt flow in the investment mold, provides the optimum conditions for gating design. It also enables more precise solidification simulation, since heat loss, while filling the thin and complex investment mold, plays an important role in determining the solidification sequence.

Directionally melt-textured high $T_c\;(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})Ba_{2}Cu_{3}O_y$ [(YNS)-123] superconductor was systematically investigated by the zone melt growth process in air. A sample prepared by this method showed well-textured microstructure, and $(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})_{2}BaCuO_5$[(YNS)211] inclusions were uniformly dispersed in large $(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})Ba_{2}Cu_{3}O_y$ [(YNS)123] matrix. High irreversibility field and magnetization hysteresis loop of the zone melt-textured (YNS)-123 sample exhibited the enhanced flux pinning, compared with $YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_y$ (Y-123) sample without RE(rare earth). Critical current density of (YNS)-123 sample was $2.5{\times}10^4\;A/cm^2$ at 2 T and 77 K.
The injection mold with multi-cavity is essential for mass production of plastic products. Multi-cavity molds are designed to geometrically balanced runner system to uniformly fill to each cavity. However, despite geometrical balanced runner system, filling imbalances between cavity to cavity have always been observed in injection molding. To solve these problems, many studies such as Melt Flipper, RC Pin, and others have been presented. The results of these studies have been an effect on filling balances in multi-cavity molds. But, those have had a limitation that additional insert parts must have existed in the mold. In this study, a new runner system is suggested for filling balance between cavity to cavity using "Melt-Buffer" with simple change of runner shape. A series of simulation to confirm feasibility of Melt-Buffer's effects was conducted using injection molding CAE program. Also, a series of injection molding experiment was conducted using plastic materials such as ABS and PP. As results of this study, feasibilities of filling balances by Melt-Buffer were confirmed.

This study uses the SWAT model to analyze the characteristics of long-term runoff at the Ssang-cheon Basin located in the city of Sokcho, which is located in the province of Gangwon. The study considers the effect of snow packing and snow melting in a runoff simulation. In this simulation, the study examines the need to introduce a snow pack and snow melt model to evaluate the water resources of the mountainous region of the Gangwon province. The findings of this study indicate that the runoff hydrograph that was produced approximates the true measured flow when the effect of the snow pack and snow melt are considered, compared to when they are not factored in. The analysis of the flow duration curve indicates that the stream flow largely increases when the effect of the snow pack and snow melt are considered. The wet stream flow was shown to increase by nearly 3% due to the melting effect, while the normal stream flow, low stream flow and drought stream flow were shown to increase by slightly more than 10%. Specifically, it was found that as the stream flow decreases, the effect of the snow pack and snow melt on the stream flow increases.

The thermal behavior, morphology, ester-interchange reaction of Poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT)/poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) melt blends were investigated over the whole composition range(xPTT/(1-x)PET) using a twinscrew Brabender. The melt blends were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy ($^{13}{C-NMR}$), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Single glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and cold crystallization temperature ($T_cc$) were observed in all melt blends. Melt blends were found to be due to the ester-interchange reaction in PTT/PET blend. Also the randomness of copolymer increases because transesterification between PT and PET increases with increasing blending time This reaction increases homogeneity of the blends and decreases the degree of crystallinity of the melt blends. In PTT-rich blends, mechanical properties decrease with increase of PET content compared with that of pure PTT. And, in PET-rich blends, tensile modulus decreases with increase of PTT content, but tensile strength and elongation is similar to that of pure PET.

In the planar flow casting(PFC) process, the conditions of the melt puddle between nozzle and rotating wheel affect significantly the quality and dimensional uniformity of the downstream ribbon. For stable puddle formation, the nozzle is placed very close to the quenching wheel, so the surface-tension and wall-adhesion forces have an important effect upon the fluid flow.\`In this study the planar flow casting process has been mode]ed using the VOF method for free surface tracking. The transient puddle formation from the present analysis shows good agreements with the previous experimental results. Furthermore, the variation of melt temperature and the corresponding cooling rate of the melt have been examined. The present results also show how the melt puddle can be farmed on the rotating substrate, how the melt flows within the puddle, and how the changes of the process variables affect the puddle formation and its corresponding fluid flow and heat transfer behavior.
The present study is concerned with the extension of the Effective Convectivity Model (ECM) to the phase-change problem to simulate the dynamics of the melt pool formation in a Light Water Reactor (LWR) lower plenum during hypothetical severe accident progression. The ECM uses heat transfer characteristic velocities to describe turbulent natural convection of a melt pool. The simple approach of the ECM method allows implementing different models of the characteristic velocity in a mushy zone for non-eutectic mixtures. The Phase-change ECM (PECM) was examined using three models of the characteristic velocities in a mushy zone and its performance was compared. The PECM was validated using a dual-tier approach, namely validations against existing experimental data (the SIMECO experiment) and validations against results obtained from Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. The results predicted by the PECM implementing the linear dependency of mushy-zone characteristic velocity on fluid fraction are well agreed with the experimental correlation and CFD simulation results. The PECM was applied to simulation of melt pool formation heat transfer in a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) and Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) lower plenum. The study suggests that the PECM is an adequate and effective tool to compute the dynamics of core melt pool formation.
