IEEE 802.11n is an ongoing next-generation WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) standard that supports a very high-speed connection with more than 100Mb/s data throughput measured at the MAC(Medium Access Control) layer. Study trends of IEEE 802.11n show two aspects, enhanced data throughput using aggregation among packets in MAC layer, and better data rates adapting MIMO(Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) in PHY(Physical) layer. But, the former doesn't consider wireless channel and the latter doesn't consider aggregation among packets for reality. Therefore, this paper analyzes data throughput for IEEE 802.11n considering MAC and PHY connection. A-MPDU(Aggregation-MAC Protocol Data Unit) and A-MSDU(Aggregation-MAC Service Unit) is adapted considering multi-service in MAC layer, WLAN MIMO TGn channel using SVD(Singular Value Decomposition) is adapted considering MIMO and wireless channel in PHY layer. Consequently, Simulation results shows throughput between A-MPDU and A-MSDU. Also, We use Ns-2(Network simulator-2) for reality.
WiBro (Wireless Broadband) service, developed in Korea, can provide the host mobility while its users hang around within the subnet. Next-generation Internet protocols, IPv6 and Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6), provide a plenty of addresses to the nodes and enable the handover between different subnets. However, MIPv6 is not enough to support a real time service such as VoIP (Voice over IP) due to the long latency, and it is necessary to develop an enhanced handover mechanism which is optimized to the WiBro networks. In this paper, we suggest an improved fast handover mechanism while the mobile node moves around WiBro networks. The proposal is based on Fast Mobile IPv6 (FMIPv6) which is the representative protocol for fast handover, and reduces the handover latency by the close interaction between the link layer (WiBro MAC) and IP layer (FMIPv6). Finally, we analyze the performance of proposed mechanism through the mathematical analysis.

IEEE 802.11 WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) standard is currently developing with increased wireless internet demand. Study trends of IEEE 802.11n for high throughput show two aspects, enhanced system throughput using aggregation among packets in MAC(Medium Access Control) layer, and better data rates adapting MIMO(Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) in PRY(Physical) layer. But, no one demonstrates IEEE 802.11n system performance results considering MAC and PRY connection. This paper adapts A-MPDU(Aggregation-MAC Protocol Data Unit) method in MAC layer and MIMO in PRY layer for IEEE 802.11n system. Consequently, Simulation results show enhanced throughput and data rates compared to existing system. Also, We use NS-2(Network Simulator-2) considering MAC and PRY connection for reality.

In this paper, we propose a inband/outband broadcast method for hidden incumbent system detection of medium access control layer for wireless regional area network systems using cognitive radio technology. Through some extra channels that are not currently used, a short message is broadcasted. The message allows CPE detecting an appearance of incumbent system to send sensing report to CR BS. For the hidden incumbent system report message, the BS needs a process or method for allocation of upstream resource to CPEs. And transmitting multiple out-band signals has a possibility to collide with out-band signals of other co-located WRAN BSs. To avoid out-band signal collision, BSs randomly select it out-band signal broadcasting time within the pre-defined explicit out-band signaling, period. And fractional Bandwidth Usage allows WRAN BSs to efficiently use bandwidth.

In the evolution from wireless sensor networks(WSNs) to ubiquitous sensor networks(USNs), technologies that can support intensive data-traffic loads, large number of users, improved interoperability, and extreme longevity are required. Therefore, efficient communication time coordination control and low power consumption becomes one of the most important design goals for USN MAC protocols. So far several time division multiplexed (TDM) MAC protocols have been proposed. However, since the pros and cons of existing protocols are not easy to analyze, it becomes a challenging task to design improved TOM MAC protocols. Based on this objective, this paper provides a novel protocol analysis along with a message complexity derivation and comparison of the existing TDM MAC protocols.

With the advent of IoT technology and Big Data computing, the importance of WSNs (Wireless Sensor Networks) has been on the rise. For energy-efficient and collection-efficient delivery of any sensed data, lots of novel wireless medium access control (MAC) protocols have been proposed and these MAC schemes are the basis of many IoT systems that leads the upcoming fourth industrial revolution. WSNs play a very important role in collecting Big Data from various IoT sensors. Also, due to the limited amount of battery driving the sensors, energy-saving MAC technologies have been recently studied. In addition, as new IoT technologies for Big Data computing emerge to meet different needs, both sensors and sinks need to be mobile. To guarantee stability of WSNs with dynamic topologies as well as frequent physical changes, the existing MAC schemes must be tuned for better adapting to the new WSN environment which includes energy-efficiency and collection-efficiency of sensors, coverage of WSNs and data collecting methods of sinks. To address these issues, in this paper, a self-organization scheme for mobile sensor networks with mobile multiple sinks has been proposed and verified to adapt both mobile sensors and multiple sinks to 3-dimensional group management MAC protocol. Performance evaluations show that the proposed scheme outperforms the previous schemes in terms of the various usage cases. Therefore, the proposed self-organization scheme might be adaptable for various computing and networking environments with big data.

Time synchronization plays an important role in mobile communication systems, particularly, when an accurate time-division mechanism among the communication entities is required. We present a new time synchronization algorithm for a wireless mobile ad-hoc network assuming that communication link is managed by a time-slot reservation-based medium access control protocol. The central idea is to reduce time synchronization packet collisions by exploiting the advantages found in reference broadcasting. In addition, we adopt a sophisticated clock updating scheme to ensure the time synchronization convergence. To verify the performance of our algorithm, a set of network simulations has been performed under various mobile ad-hoc network scenarios using the OPNET. The results obtained from the simulations show that the proposed method outperforms the conventional TSF method in terms of synchronization accuracy and convergence time.

With the ever increasing demand for data communication methods, powerline communication has become in interesting alternative method for data communication in home networking. For the purpose of home safety, several sensors will be installed at door, windows, gas alarm, etc. When considering home networking, the sensor data as well as other types of data should be supported in powerline communication. Usually the sensor data do not have priority over isochronous traffics (voice, video traffic), but in the case of urgent situation at home, the data of sensor being aware of the situation should be transmitted earlier than others. The objective in this paper is to develop a method for supporting an urgent data in home networking using powerline communication. We propose a modified algorithm of HomePlug 1.0 and show the results of computer simulation.
This paper presents an algorithm for multichannel slotted-ring topology medium access protocol (MAC) using in wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks. In multichannel ring, there are two main previously proposed architectures: Tunable Transmitter - Fixed Receiver (TTFR) and Fixed Transmitter - Tunable Receivers (FTTR). With TTFR, nodes can only receive packets on a fixed wavelength and can send packets on any wavelengths related to destination of packets. Disadvantage of this architecture is required as many wavelengths as there are nodes in the network. This is clearly a scalability limitation. In contrast, FTTR architecture has advantage that the number of nodes can be much larger than the number of wavelength. Source nodes send packet on a fixed channel (or wavelength) and destination nodes can received packets on any wavelength. If there are fewer wavelengths than there are nodes in the network, the nodes will also have to share all the wavelengths available for transmission. However the fixed wavelength approach of TTFR and FTTR bring low network utilization. Because source node with waiting data have to wait for an incoming empty slot on corresponding wavelength. Therefore this paper presents Tunable Transmitter - Tunable Receiver (TTTR) approach, in which the transmitting node can send a packet over any wavelengths and the receiving node can receive a packet from any wavelengths. Moreover, the self-similar distributed input traffic is used for evaluation of the performance of the proposed algorithm. The self-similar traffic performs better performance over long duration than short duration of the Poison distribution. In order to increase bandwidth efficiency, the Destination Stripping approach is used to mark the slot which has already reached the desired destination as an empty slot immediately at the destination node, so the slot does not need to go back to the source node to be marked as an empty slot as in the Source Stripping approach. MATLAB simulator is used to evaluate performance of FTTR, TTFR, and TTTR over 4 and 16 nodes ring network. From the simulation result, it is clear that the proposed algorithm overcomes higher network utilization and average throughput per node, and reduces the average queuing delay. With future works, mathematical analysis of those algorithms will be the main research topic.
Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANET) consist of mobile nodes which are usually powered by battery Approaches for minimizing power consumption have been proposed for all network layers and devices. IEEE 802.11 DCF (Distributed Coordination Function), a well-known medium access control protocol for MANETS, also defines a power save mode operation. The nodes in power save mode periodically repeat the awake state and the doze state in synchronized fashion. When all nodes are in the awake state, the exchange the announcements for the subsequent message transmission with neighbors. The nodes that send or receive the announcements stay awake for data transmission, and others go into the dole state. The previous works for enhancing the power save mode operation have focused on shortening the duration of the awake state. We observed that the longer sleeping period results in seriously long delivery latency and the consequent unnecessary power consumption as well, because the packets can move forward only one hop for a fixed interval. In this paper, we propose an improved protocol for the power save mode of IEEE 802.11 DCF, which allows the flooding packets to be forwarded several hops in a transmission period. Our approach does not reduce the duration of compulsory awake period, but maximizes its utilization. Each node propagates the announcements for next flooding to nodes of several hops away, thus the packets can travel multiple hops during one interval. Simulation results of comparison between our scheme and the standard show a reduction in flooding delay maximum 80%, and the unicasting latency with accompanying flooding flows near 50%, with slight increase of energy consumption.
