Background : Most traditional Korean doctors use "Packed Herbal Medicine", which is made from boiling various herbs together. However, the current insurance system doesn't cover the act of making packed herbal medicine. Therefore it is urgent for these doctors to study and find the best and most logical insurance program to cover the Packed Herbal Medicine system. Objectives : The purposes of this study were to investigate whether Announced System of Herb Price is proper for stability of medical herbs's price. Methods : This study made these following results by studying medical herbs's price of KOMD(The korea oriental medicine distribution company) from 2004 March to 2007 March The results are summarized as follows ; The 50 most frequently used herbs were chosen from the 831 standard prescriptions according to 26 pre-determined specific diseases. These prescriptions are considered the most important for this study and insurance purposes. fluctuations of fifty medical herbs which were used much about a predetermined list of 831 prescriptions are multiple function not linear equation. fluctuations of fifty medical herbs which were used much about a predetermined list of 831 prescriptions are different according to time. Therefore, to notify medical herbs's price is valid method for stability of medical herbs's price.

Nowadays Korean governments use Information Technology to improve the quality of life for a people. One of these tries is building the Food Tracing System based on Information Technology. Koreans have big concern about food that is good for health. The Food Tracing System means that the system can follows, traces, and records every steps of production and delivery of food and its ingredient. And this process should be identified and grouped by using tags, marks, and other methods. For example, producer of ingredient, processing steps of food, delivered place could be traced. In addition to food, medical herbs need consumer's trust in production and delivery. To trace and prosecute contaminated medical herbs, medical herbs also need this kind of Tracing System based on Information Technology. This study shows current medical herbs tracing ways and RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) technology trend. As preceding study for future RFID based medical herbs tracing system, this study suggests the building plan and scenario of the Medical Herbs Tracing System. The determination of the main body for sticking RFID Tags is very important to design for RFID Traceability System. In this study, the starting point of information to medical herbs is an inspection agency. The Medical Herbs to product domestically or import moved to an inspection agency. An inspection agency bond the RFID Tags to packing of the Medical Herbs after examining the a basic its component. At the same time inspector give the information of production or importation to the Tags. This Tags are moved for logistical process to end point, the Korean medicine agency. The customer confirmed the traceability and certification information of the Medical Herbs. For success tracing of medical herbs, institutional support and close cooperation between related organizations is necessary besides good system design.

Objectives : This paper seeks to discover and compile the information of the types of Korean medical herbs that are recorded in China's medial herbs literatures. Following this, the special characteristics of each herb and the differences in the description of each Korean herb found in different literatures and ages. Methods : First, the literatures were searched for the names of countries, regions, and people used in Korean peninsula, and a database was compiled based on the findings. Texts with no relation to the subject matter were discarded, and the rests were listed in the order of publication. The special characteristics of the medical herbs found in these literatures were then studied. Results & Conclusions : Total of 69 medical herbs were found in 34 literatures. These medical herbs could be categorized into three: those with superior quality, those that are different from the medical herbs used in China, and those that are not available in China. The medical herbs with superior quality are: Gonpo(昆布), Insam(人參), Omija(五味子), Tosaja(?絲子), Haesongja(海松子), Sesin(細辛), Baekbuja(白附子) and more. We can deduce that these medical herbs were regarded as superior in quality compared to their counterparts in China because they grow in the northeast region where pine tree thrive and a home to many areas with seas and mountains, and also with four distinctive seasons.

"Secret Works of Universal Benefit" was compiled by Lee Gyeonghwa(李景華, 1721-?) in Choseon Dynasty. Experience by Simple Formulae using Korean herbs in Secret Works of Universal Benefit was recorded Hangul name[鄕名], main medicinal effect and how to use etc. of 50 Korean herbs[鄕藥] to give aid to country people who didn't have medical knowledge. Secret Works of Universal Benefit have passed on traditional Korean medicine as selecting 50 Korean herbs and recording Hangul name. Though most of Experience by Simple Formulae using Korean herbs[鄕藥單方治驗] was quoted "Compendium of Matria Medica", it reflected developing of Korean traditional herb science[本草學] as selecting herbs, arranging frequent symptoms, changing main effect of herbs, and adding clinical experiences.

Objectives : This study was to analyze the definitions of herbs, herbal drugs, crude drugs and natural products in the relevant laws and regulations, understand the related problems, and propose directions for improvement. Methods : I analyzed the legal definitions in respect of herbs, herbal drugs, crude drugs and natural products in relevant laws and regulations since 1945, explained the problems, and suggested the solution-considering the academic stance of Traditional Korean Medicine and the dualistic medical and pharmaceutical system. Results : Herbs are defined as "refined things that are cut and dried in their most original state". The definition of crude drugs includes herbs and the "cell contents, secretion, extracts, minerals and other parts of animals and plants that are used medicinally". The concept of natural products is expanded to adding tissue cultures to the definition of crude drugs. Conclusions : The definition of herbs should at least include all products that are "processed, extracted and prepared" as well as contents that consist of various forms of hospital-prepared herbs. The term "herbal drug" corresponds to a traditional term of "drug", and this should be established as a concept to explain "drugs in raw materials that are used to prepare herbs and/or manufacture herbal medicine". The legal definition of herbs should include the concept of crude drugs. Herbal drug preparations and crude drugs should be included in the definition of herbal drugs.

In western, aromatherapy uses essential oils to prevent and treat disease, and is one of the ways to stay healthy. In oriental medicine, there was also a similar medical treatment using aromatic herbs for a long ago. The exisiting research of oriental medical herbs is mainly focused on the theory of qi and flavor(氣味論). But on aromatherapy used with aromatic herbs, it is necessary to study the aromatic herbs by aroma. So "xi$\bar{a}$ng p$\check{u}$, 香譜" and "b$\check{e}$n c$\check{a}$o g$\bar{a}$ng m$\grave{u}$, 本草綱目" mainly contain the study about clinical effects of aromatic herbs. And "b$\check{e}$n c$\check{a}$o p$\check{i}$n hu$\grave{i}$ j$\bar{i}$ng y$\grave{a}$o, 本草品彙精要"mainly explains the effects of medical herbs with five aroma classification of x$\bar{i}$ng(腥), sh$\bar{a}$n(膻), xi$\bar{a}$ng(香), ch$\grave{o}$u(臭), xi$\check{u}$(朽). The former one makes more clinical uses of medical herbs, and the latter one grows up the theory of medical herbs. This study is expected to have a good influence on aromatherapy and classification of oriental medical herbs.

We met results like the followings through the literatures and questionnaires about the tasks and solutions about the insurance fee of packed medical herbs. 1) It's turned out that 74.8% of herb doctors agrees to the insurance fee of packed medical herbs. However, in comparison with the same survey of the herb doctor association the percentage of general approval went somewhat lower, and especially the percentage of 'positive approval' became notably lower$(43.7%{\rightarrow}26.5%)$ and the percentage of 'active objection' raised about 2 times$(6.8%{\rightarrow}12.9%)$. Inquiring into the approval reasons on the insurance fee application of packed medical herbs some heads such as 'development toward treatment medical science' and 'decrease of publics burden' were higher than the one of 'management income and expenditure.' 2) As a result of the research, 36.0% of the patients and 42.8% of the residents recognized that the pay range of Chinese herb health insurance is narrow. They recognized that less people have the experiences of Chinese medical hospital use and internal application of the packed medical herbs as they are older, men rather than women. 85.4% of the patients and 74.9% of the residents agreed on the insurance pay of packed medical herbs. It's shown that they agree on the Chinese medical hospital use more as the economic standard is lower, on the insurance pay as they have ever taken the packed medical herbs. In the aspect of increase of insurance fee, 66.7% of the patients and 44.3% of the residents agreed on the insurance pay of packed medical herbs, and 18.1% and 36.1% disagreed on the insurance pay of packed medical herbs. The main objective reason why they disagree on the insurance pay of packed medical herbs was 'because the insurance fee goes up higher,' which answered 95.2% of the patients and 78.8% of the residents. 7.22% of the patients and 1.80% of the residents answered that they can pay more insurance fee in case of the insurance pay of packed medical herbs. However, in the priority order of the insurance pay, it hold the 5th position between 2 target research groups which was less than medical examination, charges for hospital accommodation and taking MRI. 3) According to the result of analysis about the cost of packed medical herbs, current practice price is 115,000 won and the average prime cost of a packed medical herb is 73,000 to 106,000 won. It's examined that the herb doctors regard that 95,000 won will be reasonable when the packed medical herb is payed in insurance. However, it was found out that the public generally thinks that the price would be appropriate on the level of 30,000 to 40,000 won and the percentage of the answers of 20,000 won to 30,000 was fairly high. 4) the central system of a prescription should be change into the central system of demonstration and the sick and wounded. 5) To solve this problem, the government should regulate it to pass by the circulation gradation of [importer, $peasantry{\rightarrow}manufacturer{\rightarrow}wholesaler{\rightarrow}distributor$(Chinese medical hospital, pharmacy dispensary of Chinese medicine)]And it should intervene into the quality and the circulation steps of Chinese medicine through 'the office or organization which is in charge of certification of Chinese medicine' and 'the office or organization which is in charge of the circulation of Chinese medicine.' And some actions such as simple severance, lavation, drying should be included into the conception of manufacture and the boundary between food and medical supplies should be made at a manufactory. And the regulation of standardized goods at one's own house should be improved so that, the peasantry can sell the materials of Chinese medicine only to the manufacturer. 6) In company with the insurance pay of packed medical herbs, the study about the separation of dispensary from medical practice in the Chinese medicine should be accomplished.

Objectives : In this study, we tried to analyze the relationship between effect terms and five tastes in heat-clearing herbs. In order to analyze exactly, we also attempted to extract and refine the effect terms. And finally, we tried to infer the effects of each tastes and suppose new effects of each heat-clearing herbs based on their tastes. Methods : Firstly, we extracted the five tastes and effect terms among the heat-claearing herbs written in Herbology. After that, we divided each effect terms to single meaning term and refined them. We also grouped herbs by tastes and set the effect terms in the order of frequency. So we could analyze the relationship between the tastes and the effect terms and supposed the effect of each herbs. Results & Conclusions : We extracted 7 tastes and 87 effect terms. And they was refined to 63 effect terms. As the result of analyzing the effect terms based the tastes, all of heat-clearing herbs included the effects of heat-clearing and detoxification, regardless of tastes. The herbs which have the bitter tastes, included the effects of drying dampness, fire-purging and blood-cooling. And we supposed new effects in 10 kinds of herbs among them. The herbs which have the sweet tastes, included the effects of blood-cooling and fluid-engendering. The herbs which have the hot tastes, included the effects of inducing diuresis and swelling-dispersing. And we supposed new effects in 2 kinds of herbs, by analyzing the relationship between the tastes and effect terms.

Objectives: To analyze the prescription frequency of various herbs as either individual or major herbs (in terms of dosage) and their usage patterns in the treatment of different diseases for standardization of traditional Korean medicine. Methods: We analyzed the prescription database of patients at the Pusan National University Korean Medicine Hospital from the date of establishment of the hospital to February 2013. The complete prescription data were extracted from the electronic medical records of patients, and the prescription frequencies of individual herbs, particularly, of major herbs, were analyzed in terms of gender, age, and international classification of diseases (ICD) code. Results: The prescription frequency of individual herbs based on age and gender showed a similar pattern. Herbal mixtures were also distributed in a similar manner. The use of some herbs differed according to age and gender (Table 1.). The herbs that were used at high frequencies for a given ICD code had similar usage patterns in different categories. However, some major herbs in the "Jun (King)" category were used uniquely for a given ICD code (Table 2.). There was significant difference between male and female on ICD code E and N, but the other ICD codes had small differences. The ratio of herbal medicine by gender showed different usage patterns in each gender. Conclusions: The findings of our study provide fundamental data that reflect the real clinical conditions in South Korea, and therefore, can contribute to the standardization of TKM.

Objectives : This study aims to analyze the terms describing anti-aging effects in Dongeuibogam, and to propose the methodology for selecting medicinal herbs related to anti-aging effects. Methods : We considered aging or anti-aging theories by reviewing the major literature in korean medicine or traditional chinese medicine, and then we deduced the concepts describing anti-aging effects and the medicinal herbs for anti-aging effects. We investigated the medicinal herbs based on the terms describing anti-aging effects in Dongeuibogam and drew the methodology for selecting and classifying the medicinal herbs related to anti-aging. Results & Conclusions : The following conclusions could be drawn. 1. A set of causes and signs of aging in Dongeuibogam and a set of therapies for alleviating the aging signs in Chengumikbang, Yanglobongchinseo, and Nolohangeon was found. 2. Anti-aging effects should not be confused with disease treatments. Therefore, we defined the medical terms of anti-aging effects as "the terms expressing the effect of delaying or alleviating the subjective or objective signs of aging concretely". Based upon the terms of anti-aging effects, we defined the medicinal herbs for anti-aging effects as "the medicinal herbs whose effects are described in medical terms expressing the effects of delaying or alleviating the subjective or objective signs of aging concretely". 3. We considered Lycii Fructus, Asparagi Tuber in Dongeuibogam as examples of medicinal herbs whose effects are described in medical terms expressing anti-aging effects. It shows that we can select medicinal herbs for anti-aging effects by comparing the effects of 937 single therapies in Dongeuibogam to the terms describing anti-aging effects defined in this study. Futhermore, the results could be utilized as the basic materials of experimental study on anti-aging.
