Both pelvic pain associated with cancer and chronic benign conditions may be alleviated by blocking the superior hypogastric plexus. Traditional bilateral placement of needles is the appropriate technique for the patient with pelvic pain due to the bilateral distribution of the disease as well as allowing for individual difference of pelvic cavity. However the technique is a very difficult procedure and painful for the paient. However we have performed transdiscal superior hypogastric plexus neurolysis free of complication.
The pain clinic at the Chonbuk National University Hospital opened in 1983. We analyzed 3,212 patients who visited the clinic during the 10 years from 1983 to 1993. The patients visited total of 11,628 times. The most frequent age group was in the fifties. About an half of the patients complained of low back pain, and the epidural block was most frequently given as a treatment. We need more personnels involving in pain management and more equipments in diagnosing and treating the patients with chronic pain. Understanding and cooperation among departments under the basis of closer interdepartmental relationship would be essential for the further development of the pain clinc.

As part of our program to isolate bioactive compounds from korean natural sources, we have screened traditional medicinal plants to cytotoxity on human tumor cells. Of them, the MeOH extract from rhizome of Coptis japonica Makino was found to be active against five cultured human tumor cell lines. So, the MeOH extract was subjected to successive solvent partitioning to give n-hexane, chloroform and BuOH. The activity was concentrated into the chloroform extract. The extract was chromatographied on a silica gel column and resulted in the isolation 5 alkaloids. (omitted)
Purpose: To determine traits related to pregnancy and delivery, length of stay, health care cost, postpartum discomfort, and satisfaction with medical service of puerperas giving birth in midwifery clinic and hospitals. Methods: This study used a comparative survey design. Data were collected from a total of 140 postpartum mothers composed of 70 mothers who gave births in two hospitals and another 70 mothers who delivered in one midwifery clinic. Results: Delivery in midwifery clinic had higher Apgar score at 1 minute and 5 minutes after birth than hospital. Those who delivered in midwifery clinic had shorter stay in the clinic, fewer health care cost, less postpartum discomfort in physical, environmental, social, and cultural areas, higher satisfaction with medical services than those who delivered in hospitals. Conclusion: Results of this study can be used as a basis for studies on giving birth in midwifery clinic and hospitals. They might increase the autonomy of women in giving birth with positive effect on the delivery experience of the mother and her spouse.

They made up Questionnaire about sex, age, pattern of accidents, days to visit oriental medical clinic, motivation to visiting clinic, damaged part of the body, chief complaint, treatment given to them, medication, tests, days of treatment and the effect. Results : The patients visited oriental medical clinic or hospital were fewer numbers from most of traffic accident patients. And most of their symptoms were light and the treatment and test of oriental medicine was limited for them because of automobile insurance limitation. Conclusions : For this study, we confirmed a possibility for the treatment of traffic accident patients in oriental medical treatment. Still, we needs to expend the boundary of treatment and to come into application of insurance.
The number of clinics for Oriental Clinic is increasing sharply in Korea after the inception of National Health Insurance System in 1987. However there have been many troubles in making efficient plans for oriental clinic facilities because of the lack of proper guidelines related to the design of them. This research was conducted as part of the planning project for the "G" Oriental Clinic. The purpose of this project Is to place a optimal number of beds in a small oriental clinic and medical-environmental friendly design After arranging necessary spaces, such as the Director's Office, Herbal Medicine Preparation Room, Multipurpose Room, Medicine Cabinet, and Waiting Room in the clinic, partitions are used to differentiate the spaces and the storage area.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the case of a presbycusis patient whose hearing had improved. Methods : A 81-year-old male diagnosed with presbycusis were treated with Korean medical interventions (acupuncture combined with electromagnetic stimulation and pharmacoacupuncture) and Threshold sound conditioning(TSC) for 3 months. Pure tone audiometry(PTA) was performed for the evaluation. Results : The patient's hearing was improved from moderate to mild level according to the Classification of Hearing Loss(International Organization for Standardization, 1969). The average hearing were improved from 40.5 dB to 32.7dB on the left side, 46.9dB to 34.1dB on the right side. Conclusions : We observed an improvement in a presbycusis patient's hearing and hereby suggest the possibility of Korean medical treatment and TSC's ameliorating effect on sensorineural hearing loss as well as prebyscusis.
Efficient space plans are built upon relations of both human and physical compositions, and the standard of the interaction is basically the human scale. Especially in medical areas, the character of the users within human scale design environment is quite significant. Unlike large hospitals with great plans and scalability performed by experts, mid-sized clinics tend to have limited space, designed by non-specialists who highlight aesthetics over functionality in floor plans which leads to poor quality in medical service. For this reason, this study will include the application of human scale based therapy rooms within the clinic from a physical standpoint and will further analyze and pinpoint any room for improvement to further enable more efficient ergonomic space planning. In this study, theoretically will contemplate over human scale, mid-sized clinic, therapies, and therapists, while the case study will include status of the recent human scale based mid-sized clinic from a physical viewpoint, classification and analysis amongst human and physical compositions chosen by discretion from either a newly opened or a newly re-modeled clinic within the last 2 years, which has 15 beds or more, minimum 3 physical therapists, with more than 5 different therapy facilities in the metropolitan area in order to measure the human scale of therapy rooms in a mid-sized clinic. As a result, the area where improvement can practically be applied is the physical composition, which does not include human scale like human composition factors as therapists and patients, and hence, I suggest the human scale applied efficient medical space plan become the base of this study and look forward to subsequent improvement in the quality of medical services.
