This paper describes on pressure drop in a circular pipe of refuse collecting system. The flow characteristics inside the circular pipe are analyzed by three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis. In numerical analysis, an organic waste is modeled using the data obtained by site survey. Pressure drop obtained by numerical simulation is compared to the value obtained by experimental measurements for the two kinds of pipe; straight and bended type. The pressure drop obtained by numerical simulation has a good agreement with that of experiments. It is noted that the accurate prediction of pressure drop in the waste pipe is very important to determine the performance of turbo blower used in making a suction pressure in the waste pipe. Especially, the pressure drop for an organic waste is analyzed according to the mass flow rate of waste.
In this study, flow analysis was performed on three types of strainers for ships with different flow rates to predict the pressure drop of the strainer due to the filter of strainer. In the case of flow analysis, the flow analysis was performed by applying the porous media method by applying the resistance value derived by Ergun's equation to the filter position. As a result of the analysis, it was found that when the dimensions of the strainer body were small, the influence of the flow rate on the pressure drop was large. In addition, the amount of pressure drop and the flow rate are almost linearly proportional, and an analysis formula that can predict the amount of pressure drop was derived. In order to predict the amount of pressure drop of the strainer when blockage exist in the strainer filter, the analysis was performed by introducing the resistance ratio to derive the prediction equation. Using this equation, it is thought that it will be possible to predict the performance of the strainer due to blockage in the future strainer design and field application.
In the present study, the characteristics of the electrical deformation of a bubble and a drop under a uniform electric field have been investigated to understand EHD heat transfer enhancement by an electric field. The deformation of the bubble and the drop have been studied theoretically using an electric normal stress acting on their interfaces and assured by the numerical analysis and the experiment. From the variation of bubble volume and free energy, it is found that a bubble is compressed in an electric field and free energy had larger value with increasing W and the permittivity of a dielectric fluid. The electric normal stress induced on the interface of the bubble and the drop is different. Because of the surface charge induced at the drop interface, the electric normal stress acting on the drop is much larger than that of the bubble. The drop is, therefore, deformed much more than the bubble. In addition, the experimental and numerical results show that the aspect ratio and the contact angle of the bubble increase with increasing W.

Numerical analyses have been performed to investigate the effects of geometric parameters of a straight groove micromixer on mixing performance and pressure drop. Three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with two working fluids, water and ethanol have been used to calculate mixing index and pressure drop. A parametric study has been carried out to find the effects of the number of grooves per cycle, arrangement of patterned walls, and additional grooves in triangular dead zones between half cycles of grooves. The three arrangements of patterned walls in a micromixer, i.e., single wall patterned, both walls patterned symmetrically, and both walls patterned asymmetrically, have been tested. The results indicate that as the number of grooves per cycle increases the mixing index increases and the pressure drop decreases. The microchannel with both walls patterned asymmetrically shows the best mixing performance among the three different arrangements of patterned walls. Additional grooves confirm the better mixing performance and lower pressure drop.
Predictions of diesel particulate filtration are typically made by modeling of a particle collection, and providing particle trapping levels in terms of a pressure drop. In the present study, a series of single channel diesel particulate filter (DPF) experiments are conducted, the pressure traces are inversely analyzed and essential filtration parameters are deducted for model closure. A DPF filtration model is formulated with a non-linear description of soot cake regression. Dependence of soot cake porosity, packing density, permeability, and soot density in filter walls on convective-diffusive particle transportation is examined. Sensitivity analysis was conducted on model parameters, relevant to the mode of transition. Soot cake porosity and soot packing density show low degrees of dispersion with respect to the Peclet number and have asymptotes at 0.97 and $70\;kg/m^3$, respectively, at high Peclet number. Soot density in the filter wall, which is inversely proportional to filter wall Peclet number, controls the filtration mode transition but exerts no influence on termination pressure drop. The percolation constant greatly alters the extent of pressure drop, but is insensitive to volumetric flow rate or temperature of exhaust gas at fixed operation mode.
The package used to transport radioactive materials, which is called by cask, must be safe under normal and hypothetical accident conditions. These requirements for the cask design must be verified through test or finite element analysis. Since the cost for FE analysis is less than one for test. the verification by FE analysis is mainly used. But due to the complexity of mechanical behaviors. the results depends on how users apply the codes and it can cause severe errors during analysis. In this paper, finite element analysis is carried out for the 9 meters free drop and the puncture condition of the hypothetical accident conditions using LS-DYNA3D and ABAQUS/Explicit. We have investigated the analyzing technique for the free drop impact test of the cask and found several vulnerable cases to errors. The analyzed results were compared with each other. We have suggested a reliable and relatively simple analysis technique for the drop test of spent nuclear fuel casks.
Generally, heavy electronic products undergo many different types of shocks in transporting from a manufacturer to customers. Cushioning package materials are used to protect electronic products from severe shock environments. Since the mass distributions of heavy electronic products are usually unbalanced and complex, it is very difficult to design a cushioning package with haying high performance by considering only the equivalent stiffness of that. Therefore, when designing the cushioning material for a heavy electronic product, it is necessary to optimize its shape in order to maximize the cushioning performance. In this study, it is focused on designing an optimal shape of cushioning material for a large-sized refrigerator and an efficient design method is suggested by using a dynamic finite element analysis. As the results of this study, the optimal shape of cushioning material, which has high cushioning performance and minimized volume, was obtained from the drop analysis and a optimization process. From free drop tests of a refrigerator, it was identified that the cushioning performance of the optimal package were improved up to 16 % and the volume of it was reduced in a range of 22 %.

While analyzing the specimens before and after the thermal shock test, we found that the power drop rate of the bare cell was 5.08%, while the power drop rate of the ribboned cell was 16.49%. In comparative terms, the efficiency was lower at the ribboned cell than at the bare cell. While analyzing through EL (Electroluminescence) shots and cross sections, we tried to decipher the exact cause of the power drop. Although mere color change of the cell was observed at the surface of the bare cell, no abnormality could be found inside the cell. On the surface of the ribboned cell, the short circuit of gridfinger extended from the front part of the front electrode of the ribboned cells. Therefore, cracks occurred on the surface of the cell. Cracks also appeared inside the cell. While analyzing the I-V curve, we determined an increase in the leakage current and an increase of resistances in series in the bare cell. In the ribboned cell, the resistances in parallel reduced remarkably. An increase of resistances in series could also be verified. Conclusively, we deduced that the power drop rate in the bare cell is a life span of the cell itself; aging is the cause of power drop rate in cells. In case of ribboned cell, the power drop rate was directly influenced by internal cracks and an intermetallic compound layer joining the ribbon at the front electrode.
Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics(SPH) method uses a grid of historical analysis and is not Lagrangian particles using the grid method. The Navier-Stokes equations were used to solve the viscous flow of the non-compressed. In this study, the numerical analysis of the three-dimensional Coin Drop Simulation using SPH method was performed, and the analysis results are compared with experimental results, and a similar behavior can be seen. The commercial program used was Abaqus/Explicit. SPH method to reduce the error by comparing the existing flow analysis or interpretation of the continuing research is needed in the future. That will enable real-time analysis of material obtained as a result of these numerical simulations similar to the actual flow phenomena, depending on the development of computer graphics technology to show visually. As a result, this method can be applied to the analysis fluid - structure interaction problems in a variety of fields.
