Analysis on the post-irradiation examination of the HANARO miniplate-1 irradiation test for kijang research reactor

  • The construction project of the Kijang research reactor (KJRR), which is the second research reactor in Korea, has been launched. The KJRR was designed to use, for the first time, U-Mo fuel. Plate-type U-7 wt.% Mo/Al-5 wt.% Si, referred to as U-7Mo/Ale5Si, dispersion fuel with a uranium loading of $8.0gU/cm^3$, was selected to achieve higher fuel efficiency and performance than are possible when using $U_3Si_2/Al$ dispersion fuel. To qualify the U-Mo fuel in terms of plate geometry, the first miniplates [HANARO Miniplate (HAMP-1)], containing U-7Mo/Al-5Si dispersion fuel ($8gU/cm^3$), were fabricated at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and recently irradiated at HANARO. The PIE (Post-irradiation Examination) results of the HAMP-1 irradiation test were analyzed in depth in order to verify the safe in-pile performance of the U-7Mo/Al-5Si dispersion fuel under the KJRR irradiation conditions. Nondestructive analyses included visual inspection, gamma spectrometric mapping, and two-dimensional measurements of the plate thickness and oxide thickness. Destructive PIE work was also carried out, focusing on characterization of the microstructural behavior using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Electron probe microanalysis was also used to measure the elemental concentrations in the interaction layer formed between the U-Mo kernels and the matrix. A blistering threshold test and a bending test were performed on the irradiated HAMP-1 miniplates that were saved from the destructive tests. Swelling evaluation of the U-Mo fuel was also conducted using two methods: plate thickness measurement and meat thickness measurement.

Growth, carcass traits, cecal microbial counts, and blood chemistry of meat-type quail fed diets supplemented with humic acid and black cumin seeds

  • Objective: The present study attempted to determine safe and sufficient growth promoters in poultry feeding. Methods: A total of 520 seven-day-old quail chicks were randomly allotted to eight treatment groups in a $4{\times}2$ factorial design experiment to evaluate the effect of different levels of humic acid (HA) and black cumin (BC) seed and their interactions on growth, carcass traits, gut microbes, and blood chemistry of growing quails. Quails were randomly distributed into 8 groups in a $4{\times}2$ factorial design, included 4 HA levels (0, 0.75, 1.5, and 2.25 g/kg diet) and 2 BC levels (0 or 5 g/ kg diet). Results: Increasing HA level associated with a gradual increase in final weight, feed intake and body weight gain along with an improvement in feed conversion ratio. Dietary addition of 5 g BC powder/kg diet gave similar results. The highest level of HA (2.25 g/kg diet) recorded the best values of carcass weight, breast yield, intestinal length, and intestinal weight comparing with the control and other HA levels. Total viable microbial counts decreased (p<0.05) with increasing levels of HA except the intermediate level (1.5 g/kg diet). The concentration of serum cholesterol and low density lipoprotein (excluding that 0.75 g HA) decreased (p<0.05) and high density lipoprotein increased (p = 0.034) along with increasing HA level. The interaction between the $2.25g\;HA{\times}5g$ gave the best results regarding most studied parameters. Conclusion: These findings indicated that HA combined with BC could be used as effective growth promoters, with the recommended level being 2.25 g HA+5 g BC/kg of quail diet.

Energy utilization, nutrient digestibility and bone quality of broiler chickens fed Tanzania-type diets in different forms with enzymes

  • A study was conducted to determine the influence of feed form and microbial enzyme supplementation on energy utilization, bone quality, and amino acid and mineral digestibility of broiler chickens. Four hundred and eighty Ross 308, day-old broiler chickens were randomly assigned to eight diets formulated from commonly used ingredients in Tanzania. A 2 (pellet or mash) ${\times}$ 4 (control, Axtra XB, Quantum Blue (QB) and Axtra XB + QB enzyme) factorial array in a completely randomized design having six replicates per treatment (10 birds per replicate) was used. Birds were raised in climate-controlled rooms in a 3-phase; starter (0-10 days), grower (11-24 days) and finisher (25-35 days). Apparent metabolizable energy (AME), metabolizable energy intake, net energy of production, energy retained as protein (REp), and efficiency of metabolizable energy use for energy and protein retention were higher (p < 0.05) in birds fed pelleted diets. The AME and REp was higher (p < 0.05) with enzyme supplementation. Ash content, weight, length, width and breaking strength of tibia bones were highest (p < 0.05) in birds on pelleted diets. Tibia bone traits were improved (p < 0.05) when enzymes were included, particularly in a combination of QB and Axtra XB. However, potassium, magnesium, and zinc contents were highest (p < 0.05) when QB was supplemented. Digestibility of all amino acids was higher (p < 0.05) in birds supplied with pellets and with enzyme supplementation for most amino acids, except for serine. There was a positive interaction (p < 0.05) between feed form and enzymes on lysine and phenylalanine digestibility. Digestibility of Ca, P, K, S, Zn, and Fe was higher (p < 0.05) in birds fed pelleted diets, while those on mashed diets had higher (p < 0.05) digestibility of Cu and B. The digestibility of P, K, and Zn was highest (p < 0.001) when QB was added, while Ca, P, S, and B digestibility was highest when a combination of Axtra XB + QB was applied. Pelleted diets with or without enzymes improved energy utilization, digestibility of amino acids, and minerals, and increased bone strength in broiler chickens.

장서각 소장 사찬발기를 통한 조선왕실의 사찬음식 연구 - 탄일, 출산, 가례, 상례를 중심으로 - (A Study on Joseon Royal Cuisine through Sachanbalgi of the Jangseogak Archives - Focusing on Royal Birthday, Child birth, Weddings and Funerals-)

  • This study investigated the Sachanbalgi, which record the royal feasts given by the royal family of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea. These records are contained within the Gungjung Balgi, which recorded the types and quantity of items used in royal court ceremonies. The Eumsikbalgi is the general name for the records of food found within this document. Using these Eumsikbalgi, and in particular the Sachanbalgi, this study investigated the food eaten and bestowed by the Joseon royal family. The Sachanbalgi describes four categories or occasions of feasts: royal birthdays, childbirth, royal weddings, and funerals. These records allow us to reconstruct who the attendees were and what the table settings and food were for instances not directly indicated in oral records, books, or other documents. The food at these Sachan (feasts) was diverse, being related to the specific event, and its contents varied based on the position of the person who was receiving the food. Usually, Bab (rice) was not found at a Sachanbalgi, and only on two occasions were meals with Bab observed. Specifically, it was served with Gwaktang (seaweed soup) at a childbirth feast. There were seven kinds of soups and stews that appeared in the Sachanbalgi: Gwaktang, Yeonpo (octopus soup), Japtang (mixed food stew), Chogyetang (chilled chicken soup), Sinseonro (royal hot pot), and Yukjang (beef and soybean paste). Nureumjeok (grilled brochette) and Saengchijeok (pheasant), and Ganjeonyueo (pan-fried cow liver fillet) and Saengseonjeonyueo (pan-fried fish fillet) were eaten. Yangjeonyueo, Haejeon, Tigakjeon (pan-fried kelp) and other dishes, known and unknown, were also recorded. Boiled meat slices appeared at high frequency (40 times) in the records; likewise, 22 kinds of rice cake and traditional sweets were frequently served at feasts. Five kinds of non-alcoholic beverages were provided. Seasonal fruits and nuts, such as fresh pear or fresh chestnut, are thought to have been served following the event. In addition, a variety of dishes including salted dry fish, boiled dish, kimchi, fruit preserved in honey, seasoned vegetables, mustard seeds, fish, porridge, fillet, steamed dishes, stir-fried dishes, vegetable wraps, fruit preserved in sugar, and jellied foods were given to guests, and noodles appear 16 times in the records. Courtiers were given Banhap, Tanghap, Myeonhap, wooden bowls, or lunchboxes. The types of food provided at royal events tracked the season. In addition, considering that for feasts food of the royal household was set out for receptions of guests, cooking instructions for the food in the lunchbox-type feasts followed the cooking instructions used in the royal kitchen at the given time. Previous studies on royal cuisine have dealt mostly with the Jineosang presented to the king, but in the Sachanbalgi, the food given by the royal family to its relatives, retainers, and attendants is recorded. The study of this document is important because it extends the knowledge regarding the food of the royal families of the Joseon Dynasty. The analysis of Sachanbalgi and the results of empirical research conducted to reconstruct the precise nature of that food will improve modern knowledge of royal cuisine.

Comprehensive analysis of miRNAs, lncRNAs and mRNAs profiles in backfat tissue between Daweizi and Yorkshire pigs

  • Objective: Daweizi (DWZ) is a famous indigenous pig breed in China and characterized by tender meat and high fat percentage. However, the expression profiles and functions of transcripts in DWZ pigs is still in infancy. The object of this study was to depict the transcript profiles in DWZ pigs and screen the potential pathway influence adipogenesis and fat deposition, Methods: Histological analysis of backfat tissue was firstly performed between DWZ and lean-type Yorkshire pigs, and then RNA sequencing technology was utilized to explore miRNAs, lncRNAs and mRNAs profiles in backfat tissue. 18 differentially expressed (DE) transcripts were randomly selected for quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (QPCR) to validate the reliability of the sequencing results. Finally, gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis were conducted to investigate the potential pathways influence adipocyte differentiation, adipogenesis and lipid metabolism, and a schematic model was further proposed. Results: A total of 1,625 differentially expressed transcripts were identified in DWZ pigs, including 27 upregulated and 45 downregulated miRNAs, 64 upregulated and 119 down-regulated lncRNA, 814 upregulated and 556 downregulated mRNAs. QPCR analysis exhibited strong consistency with the sequencing data. GO and KEGG analysis elucidated that the differentially expressed transcripts were mainly associated with cell growth and death, signal transduction, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR), AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), PI3K-Akt, adipocytokine and foxo signaling pathways, all of which are strongly involved in cell development, lipid metabolism and adipogenesis. Further analysis indicated that the BGIR9823_87926/miR-194a-5p/AQP7 network may be effective in the process of adipocyte differentiation or adipogenesis. Conclusion: Our study provides comprehensive insights into the regulatory network of backfat deposition and lipid metabolism in pigs from the point of view of miRNAs, lncRNAs and mRNAs.

가구소득 및 인구학적 특성에 따른 코로나19 유행 전·후 한국 노인의 영양소 섭취변화에 대한 단면연구: 국민건강영양조사 제8기(2019-2020) 자료를 활용하여 (Changes in nutritional status of Korean older adults during COVID-19 Pandemic by household income and demographic factors -using the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(2019-2020): a cross-sectional study)

  • Objectives: The study aim was to identify changes in the nutritional status of older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic according to household income and demographic characteristics. Methods: Study participants were 2,408 adults aged 65 and over who participated in the 2019-2020 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). To examine changes in nutrient intake levels resulting from COVID-19, data of 2019 and of 2020 were compared. Study participants were divided into three groups based on household income level to compare these changes. The changes were compared according to household income level, age group, and household type. Results: Percentages of recommended intakes for energy, protein, and most micronutrients were the lowest for the low-income group of both males and females in 2020. The Mean Adequacy Ratio (MAR) score was the lowest for the low-income group in both years. When comparing nutrient density for 2019 and 2020 by income group, the male low-income group experienced a decrease in nutrient densities of vitamin A, thiamine, calcium, and iron. For the same group, a decreased percentage for energy intake from protein was noted. Fruit intake was lowest in the low-income group for both males and females. Low-income males had the lowest intake levels for meat, fish, eggs, and legumes in both 2019 and 2020 and the lowest milk and milk product intake levels in 2020. Older adults living alone or single older adults with children had lower MAR scores than those living with a spouse. Older adults living alone experienced decreases in energy and thiamine and iron intake levels in 2020 compared to their intake levels in 2019. Conclusions: Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, nutrition intake levels worsened for older adult males in the low-income group and older adults living alone. This finding shows the need for a more systematic nutritional support strategy for the vulnerable older adults population in national disaster situations.

식품가공공장의 에너지 절감을 위한 batch식 가열 공정 에너지 소비 분석 : 사례 연구 (Energy Consumption Analysis of Batch Type Heating Process for Energy Savings in Food Processing Plants)

  • 제조 공장은 기후 변화에 따른 에너지 사용 절감 문제에 직면해 있다. 에너지 소비 절감은 생산 비용 절감 및 효율 개선과 같이 가장 중요한 문제 중 하나로 볼 수 있다. 제조 산업 군 중에서도 식품 에너지 소비 규모 증가는 식생활 수준 향상 및 인구 증가와 더불어 점차 높아지고 있다. 식품가공공장의 에너지 절감을 위해서는 에너지 다소비 공정에서의 에너지 소비 특성을 파악하고 분석하는 것이 중요하다. 이에 앞서 기존 에너지 소비량을 모니터링하고 분석하여 절감 방안을 도출하는 것이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 육가공류를 생산하는 중소기업 규모 식품가공공장을 사례 연구로 하여 batch식 가열 공정의 주기·단계 수준에서의 에너지 소비 구조를 파악하고 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 통해 개별 공정 작업 조건에서 얻을 수 있는 현실적이고 정량적인 목표를 수립하고자 하였다. 본 연구 결과는 향후 중소기업 식품 공장 공통 핵심 공정에 대한 확산 보급형 에너지 절감 FEMS 기술 개발의 기초 자료로 활용될 것이다.

사료 내 대사 에너지 및 조단백질 수준이 산란종 수평아리의 성장성적과 도체특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Varying Levels of Dietary Metabolizable Energy and Crude Protein on Growth Performance and Carcass Characteristics in Layer-type Growing Male Chicks)

  • 본 연구는 사료 내 대사 에너지 및 조단백질의 수준별 급여가 산란종 수평아리의 생산성과 도체 특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하여, 전용 사료로서 요구되는 적정 영양 수준을 구명코자 실시하였다. 실험 동물은 1일령 Hy-Line Brown 수평아리 900수를 공시하여 대사 에너지를 두 가지 수준(2,800 kcal/kg 및 2,950 kcal/kg), 조단백질을 세 가지 수준(17%, 18.5% 및 20%)으로 하는 $2{\times}3$ factorial design으로 구성하여 처리당 5반복, 반복당 30수씩을 체중이 유사하도록 완전임의 배치하였다. 21일령, 53일령에 생체중, 사료 섭취량 및 사료 요구율을 조사하였고, 에너지 및 단백질 섭취량을 산출하였다. 53일령에 생체중 측정치의 평균에 해당하는 개체를 처리구별로 8수씩 선발하여 도계 후 가식성 부위 및 조직의 상대적 중량을 조사하였다. 혈중 콜레스테롤 및 간 기능 관련 효소의 활성을 측정하였다. 사료 섭취량은 대사 에너지수준이 높을수록 감소하였고(p<0.05), 대사 에너지${\times}$조단백질 상호작용 또한 유의적인 차이가 인정되었다(p< 0.05). 증체량과 사료 요구율은 대사 에너지 수준보다는 조단백질의 사료 내 수준이 17.0%에서 20.0%로 증가함에 따라 선형적으로 개선되는 결과를 나타내었으며(p<0.05), 대사 에너지${\times}$조단백질 상호작용은 나타나지 않았다. 사료 내 영양소 수준에 따른 에너지와 단백질의 섭취량은 대사 에너지${\times}$조단백질 상호작용에 의한 유의한 차이나 경향이 관찰되었다. 1 g 증체에 요구되는 에너지 섭취량은 조단백질 수준이 증가함에 따라 선형적으로 낮아졌고(p<0.001), 수당 단백질 섭취량은 저에너지구(2,800 kcal/kg)가 고에너지구(2,950 kcal/kg)에 비하여 유의하게 높았으며(p<0.05), 조단백질 수준의 증가에 따라 유의하게 높아졌다(p<0.001). 1 g 증체에 요구되는 단백질 섭취량 역시, 조단백질 수준의 증가에 따라 선형적으로 증가하였다(p<0.01). 간, 비장, 가슴육 및 다리 부위의 상대적 중량에서는 유의한 차이가 관찰되지 않았다. 총 콜레스테롤, GOT 활성, BUN, 크레아틴 역시 유의한 차이를 나타내지 않았으나, GPT 활성에서 대사 에너지 2,950 kcal/kg 처리구가 대사 에너지 2,800 kcal/kg 처리구에 비하여 높은 경향을 보였고(p=0.056), 혈청 알부민에서 대사 에너지${\times}$조단백질 상호작용이 관찰되었다(p<0.05). 본 연구 결과, 산란종 수평아리의 증체량과 사료 요구율은 대사 에너지 수준보다는 조단백질 수준 증가에 따라 선형적으로 개선되는 것으로 나타났으며, 이를 통해 대사 에너지 2,800 kcal/kg 및 2,950 kcal/kg의 급여 수준의 차이는 성장에 미치는 영향이 미미한 것으로 판단할 수 있었다. 각 기간별로도 사료 내 대사 에너지 및 조단백질 수준에 따른 일정한 경향이 유지되었고, 대사 에너지 및 조단백질 수준별 급여가 도체특성, 혈액조성에 크게 영향을 미치지 않았다. 따라서 대사 에너지 2,800 kcal/kg 수준과 조단백질 18.5% 수준 이상의 사료 급여가 산란종 수평아리의 육성에 있어서 가장 적정한 영양 수준인 것으로 사료된다.

자연산 말전복(Haliotis gigantea)과 양식산 참전복(Haliotis discus hannai)의 일반성분, 지방산, 아미노산 및 핵산관련물질 조성 비교 (Overall Composition, and Levels of Fatty Acids, Amino Acids, and Nucleotide-type Compounds in Wild Abalone Haliotis gigantea and Cultured Abalone Haliotis discus hannai)

  • 본 연구에서는 자연산 말전복과 양식산 참전복의 일반성분을 비롯한 지방산, 아미노산 및 핵산관련물질을 비교 분석하여 전복에 대한 기초자료로 활용하고자 하였다. 자연산 말전복과 양식산 참전복을 육과 내장으로 분리하여 실험한 결과, 육의 경우 자연산 말전복이 양식산 참전복에 비해 수분함량이 높게 나타났으며, 내장도 동일한 결과를 나타냈다. 조단백질 함량은 자연산 말전복에 비해 양식산 참전복에서 더 높게 나타났고, 조지질 함량은 자연산말전복과 양식산 참전복에 공통적으로 육보다는 내장에 더 많이 함유되어 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 자연산 말전복의 내장에 조지질 함량이 $2.02{\pm}0.15%$로 가장 높은 값을 나타내었다. 자연산 말전복 및 양식산 참전복의 육과 내장의 포화지방산(SFA)으로는 palmitic acid (16:0), 단일불포화지방산(MUFA) 으로는 oleic acid (18:1n-9), 다가불포화지방산(PUFA)으로는 eicosatrienoic acid (20:3n-3, ETA), eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5n-3, EPA) 및 docosahexaenoic acid(22:6n-3, DHA)가 많이 함유되어 있었다. 대표적인 오메가-3 지방산인 EPA와 DHA의 함량은 자연산 말전복의 육에 양식산 참전복의 육보다 더 높은 함량을 나타내었다. 자연산 말전복과 양식산 참전복에서 총 17개의 구성아미노산이 분석되었고, 주요 구성아미노산으로 aspartic acid, glutamic acid, glycine 및 arginine 등이 확인되었고, cystine, methionine, histidine 등의 함량은 낮았다. 또한, 자연산 말전복과 양식산 참전복의 주요 유리아미노산은 taurine, alanine, arginine, glycine 등으로 확인되었으며, 자연산 말전복의 육과 내장에 더 많은 taurine이 함유되어 있는 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 자연산 밀전복과 양식산 참전복의 핵산관련물질의 총 함량은 각각 12.93 mg/100g 및 30.75 mg/100g으로 2배 이상의 함량차이를 나타내었다. 본 연구결과 자연산 말전복과 양식산 참전복 간에는 약간의 성분의 차이를 나타내었는데, 이는 전복의 먹이 섭취에 따라 조금의 차이가 있을 것으로 사료되었다.

  • 큰가리비 치패의 대체 먹이원을 개발하기 위해 각기 다른 먹이원을 공급하여 성장, 생존율 및 체내 조성을 조사하였다. 생존율은 PTE + PHY 실험구에서 90.0%로 가장 높게 나타났다. 각장과 각고는 PHY에서 가장 높게 나타났으나 PTE +PHY 실험구와의 유의적인 차이는 없었다. 반면, PTE와 OTE 단독구는 유의적으로 가장 낮게 나타났다. 한편, 각폭 및 전중량도 동일한 경향을 보여 PHY 단독 실험구와 PTE+PHY 혼합 실험구에서 유의적으로 가장 높게 나타난 반면 PTE와 OTE 단독구는 가장 낮은 값을 보였다. 한편, 체내 지방산 분석에서 DHA 함량은 기존 먹이인 미세조류 단독 실험구 (PHY) 와 경제적인 먹이원인 INS 실험구에 비해 지질강화원인 PTE와 OTE가 혼합된 실험구에서 더욱 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 이러한 높은 값에 기인하여 n-3 PUFA도 높았다. 또한, 총 단백질 함량은 주요 단백질원인 PHY와 INS가 들어간 실험구가 55.5-65.2%의 함량을 보인반면 지질영양강화원만 들어간 PTE, OTE 단독 실험구는 각각 44.8%, 47.0%로 가장 낮은 함량을 나타내었다. 필수아미노산 함량도 동일한 경향을 보여 단순 지질강화원 실험구에서는 낮았다. 한편, 체내 핵산 분석에서 RNA 값은 PHY 단독 실험구와 PTE+PHY 혼합구에서 0.76으로 가장 높게 나타났으나 PTE, OTE 단독구는 각각 0.35, 0.32로 가장 낮게 나타났다. DNA 값도 PHY 단독 실험구와 PTE + PHY 혼합구에서 3.95으로 가장 높게 나타난 반면 PTE, OTE 단독구는 유의적으로 가장 낮았다. 이러한 경향에 의해 RNA/DNA ratio 값도 PHY와 INS가 들어간 단독구와 몇몇 혼합구가 PTE와 OTE 단독구 보다 높았다. 이상의 결과를 통해서 미세조류 단독 공급구인 PHY에 PTE를 혼합해 준 PTE+PHY 혼합 공급구는 큰가리비 치패의 성장, 생존율 및 체내 조성을 향상시켜 주는 것으로 나타났다. 본 실험을 통해 새롭게 대체 개발된 PTE+PHY 혼합구는 이매패류 양식에서 차지하는 미세조류 생산비용의 절감 효과를 기대해 볼 수 있는 것으로 경제적인 측면에서 매우 유용한 결과라 할 수 있다.
