This paper considers a single machine rescheduling problem whose original (efficiency related) objective is minimizing makespan. We assume that disruptions such as order cancelations and newly arrived orders occur after the initial scheduling, and we reschedule this disrupted schedule with the objective of minimizing a disruption related objective while preserving the original objective. The disruption related objective measures the impact of the disruptions as difference of completion times in the remaining (uncanceled) jobs before and after the disruptions. The artificial due dates for the remaining jobs are set to completion times in the original schedule while newly arrived jobs do not have due dates. Then, the objective of the rescheduling is minimizing the maximum earliness without tardiness. In order to preserve the optimality of the original objective, we assume that no-idle time and no tardiness are allowed while rescheduling. We first define this new problem and prove that the general version of the problem is unary NP-complete. Then, we develop three simple but intuitive heuristics. For each of the three heuristics, we find a tight bound on the measure called modified z-approximation ratio. The best theoretical bound is found to be 0.5 - ${\varepsilon}$ for some ${\varepsilon}$ > 0, and it implies that the solution value of the best heuristic is at most around a half of the worst possible solution value. Finally, we empirically evaluate the heuristics and demonstrate that the two best heuristics perform much better than the other one.
Retention of possible churning customer is one of the most important issues in customer relationship management, so companies try to predict churn customers using their large-scale high-dimensional data. This study focuses on dealing with large data sets by reducing the dimensionality. By using six different dimension reduction methods-Principal Component Analysis (PCA), factor analysis (FA), locally linear embedding (LLE), local tangent space alignment (LTSA), locally preserving projections (LPP), and deep auto-encoder-our experiments apply each dimension reduction method to the training data, build a classification model using the mapped data and then measure the performance using hit rate to compare the dimension reduction methods. In the result, PCA shows good performance despite its simplicity, and the deep auto-encoder gives the best overall performance. These results can be explained by the characteristics of the churn prediction data that is highly correlated and overlapped over the classes. We also proposed a simple out-of-sample extension method for the nonlinear dimension reduction methods, LLE and LTSA, utilizing the characteristic of the data.

A new type fiber optic sensing system has been developed as a commercially available standard using the technique of hetero-core spliced fiber optic sensor, for the purposes of monitoring large scaled structures, preserving natural environments and measuring physical phenomenons. The sensing system has been tested and evaluated in a possible outdoor condition in view of the full scaled operation at actual sites to be monitored. Additionally, the developed system in this work conveniently provides us with various options of sensor modules intended to measure such physical quantities as displacement, distortion, pressure, binary states and liquid adhesion. The experiment study has been performed to examine the performance to a pseudo-cracking experiment in the outdoor situation, and to clarify temperature influences to the system in terms of the coupling of optical connectors and the OTDR stability. It has been verified that the sensing system is robust to the temperature change ranging from the general condition to the hard condition. Especially, in this study, the specification and performances of the pressure sensor have been demonstrated to show the capability of inspecting various physical quantities.
Recently, computational intelligence has received a lot of attention from researchers due to its potential applications to artificial intelligence. In computer science, computational intelligence refers to a machine's ability to learn how to compete various tasks, such as making observations or carrying out experiments. We adopted a computational intelligence solution to monitoring residual resources in cloud computing environments. The proposed residual resource monitoring scheme periodically monitors the cloud-based host machines, so that the post migration performance of a virtual machine is as consistent with the pre-migration performance as possible. To this end, we use a novel similarity measure to find the best target host to migrate a virtual machine to. The design of the proposed residual resource monitoring scheme helps maintain the quality of service and service level agreement during the migration. We carried out a number of experimental evaluations to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed residual resource monitoring scheme. Our results show that the proposed scheme intelligently measures the similarities between virtual machines in cloud computing environments without causing performance degradation, whilst preserving the quality of service and service level agreement.

This study derived the design aspects by carrying out the case study of Neunggok prehistoric remains park, Ansansingil historic park and Yongjuk historic park to which are taken measures to preserve undesignated cultural heritages after studying the related laws & regulations and the systems as the design conditions of historic park preserving buried cultural heritages. The results of the study are as follows. First, according to the laws & regulations related to the historical parks, the historic sites should be preserved and utilized at the same time and can have history-related facility spaces, squares, rest spaces, exercise spaces, education & culture space, and convenience spaces. Second, by the space organization and the circulation system emphasizing only the preservation of buried cultural heritages, the feature-preservation space and the functional space are separated and due to not accepting the usage behavior considering peripheral land use, the effectiveness of the historical park was low. Third, the passive feature-preservation methods such as the preservation of the exposed site in architectural methods, the reproduction of the dugout hut, and the planting Royal azaleas or displaying stone after covering up the location of the pit dwellings with soil and the usage mainly for viewing have weakened the identity of the historical park. Fourth, the fence preventing users' access interferes experiencing the features, and the vertical structure protecting the upper part of the exposed features has overwhelmed the landscape of the historical parks. Fifth, it was difficult to figure out the feature space only by the texts mainly on terminologies and the excavation photographs presented on the information signs which introduce the buried cultural heritages.
LAPS is a device which is dependent on the bias potential between a pH sensitivity and alternating photocurrent. We implemented the multichannel LAPS device and the detection system which was able to effectively measure the sensor's output by a synchronized detection circuit and multiple methods. The implemented LAPS was structured the multiple sensing sites for analyzing a various components simultaneously. And the system included a time-division method using one pre-amplifier being able to detect the multichannel pH concentration preserving a high S/N ratio and a control part. System hardware consists of a pre-amplifier, digital unit and sensor unit, and software consists of a system program and PC program. As results, we verified the successful operations of system including an implemented pre-amplifier and signal processing units.
In this work, a new adaptive weighted mean filter is proposed for preserving image details while effectively suppressing impulse noise. The proposed filter is based on a noise pixel detection-estimation strategy. All the pixels are first detected using an impulse noise detector. Then the detected noise pixels are replaced with the output of the weighted mean filter over adaptive working window according to the rate of corrupted neighborhood pixels, while noise-free pixels are left unaltered. We compare the proposed filter to other existing filters in the qualitative measure and quantitative measures such as PSNR and MAE as well as computation time to verify the capability of the proposed filter. Extensive simulations show that the proposed filter performs better than other filters in impulse noise suppression and detail preservation without increasing of running time.

This paper proposes a modified jointly-blue noise mask (MJBNM) method using the S-CIELAB color measure as digital color halftoning method. Based on an investigation of the relation between the pattern visibility and the chromatic error, of a blue noise pattern, a halftoning method is proposed that reduces the chromatic error, while preserving a high quality blue noise pattern. Accordingly, to reduce the chrominance error, the low-pass filtered error and S-CIELAB chrominance error are both considered during the mask generation procedure and calculated for single and combined patterns. Using the calculated low-pass filtered error, the patterns are then updated by either adding or removing dots from the multiple binary patterns. Finally, the pattern exhibiting the lower S-CIELAB chrominance error is selected. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed algorithm can produce a visually pleasing half toned image with a lower chrominance error than the JBNM method.
To maintain safety and reliability of reactors, redundant sensors are usually used to measure critical variables and estimate their averaged time-dependency. Nonhealthy sensors can badly influence the estimation result of the process variable. Since online condition monitoring was introduced, the online cross-calibration method has been widely used to detect any anomaly of sensor readings among the redundant group. The cross-calibration method has four main averaging techniques: simple averaging, band averaging, weighted averaging, and parity space averaging (PSA). PSA is used to weigh redundant signals based on their error bounds and their band consistency. Using the consistency weighting factor (C), PSA assigns more weight to consistent signals that have shared bands, based on how many bands they share, and gives inconsistent signals of very low weight. In this article, three approaches are introduced for improving the PSA technique: the first is to add another consistency factor, so called trend consistency (TC), to include a consideration of the preserving of any characteristic edge that reflects the behavior of equipment/component measured by the process parameter; the second approach proposes replacing the error bound/accuracy based weighting factor ($W^a$) with a weighting factor based on the Euclidean distance ($W^d$), and the third approach proposes applying $W^d$, TC, and C, all together. Cold neutron source data sets of four redundant hydrogen pressure transmitters from a research reactor were used to perform the validation and verification. Results showed that the second and third modified approaches lead to reasonable improvement of the PSA technique. All approaches implemented in this study were similar in that they have the capability to (1) identify and isolate a drifted sensor that should undergo calibration, (2) identify a faulty sensor/s due to long and continuous missing data range, and (3) identify a healthy sensor.
The osteogenic capacity of the vascularized periosteum autograft has been extensively demonstrated by experimental works. The objective of this study was to characterize the behavior of experimental model of vascularized periosteal flap(VPF) by observing sequential stages of osteogenesis after simulated VPF in rabbits. In experimental group, segmental resection of bone including the periosteum was performed in 22 radii of 22 New Zealand white rabbits preserving the periosteal circulation of median artery to the periosteum. In order to simulate the transplantation of VPF, the vascular pedicle consisting of median artery and veins was dissected from adjacent soft tissue and the periosteum was longitudinally incised to remove the bone followed by repair of the periosteum. From the first to sixteenth week after the simulated VPF, the changes in VPFs were observed by radiological, light microscopical, scanning electron microscopical methods and the activity of osteocalcin was measured by immunohistochemical method. In control group, the bone tissue and periosteum were completely removed from the mid-shaft of radius and the findings were observed by radiological and light microscopical methods. From the results of this study, it is demonstrated that the experimental model of VPF is vigorously and uniformly osteogenic. Therefore it is thought that VPF can be used as a measure to treat bone defect of shaft of long bone.
