The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of progressive muscle relaxation therapy on nausea, vomiting and anxiety experienced by children who were histologically diagnosed as malignancy and have received cancer chemotherapy. Twenty subjects with 10 in experimental group and 10 in control group, between the age of 7 to 12 years participated in this study. All subjects were admitted for inpatients chemotherapy at the S hospital between April to August 1998. The methods used for interventional muscle relaxation were both the 16 items of the progressive muscle relaxation therapy developed by Jacobson and the 4 items of the muscle relaxation therapy by Wolpe. The method for assessing nausea, vomiting was the Index of Nausea and Vomiting by Rhodes et al and that for anxiety was State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children by Spielberger. The data was analysed by repeated measures ANOVA and Scheffe test using SAS program. The results were as follows : 1. On measurement of nausea, vomiting, in the experimental group, the mean values of the second and the third measurements showed tendency to slightly decrease compared with the first measurement, but there was no statistically significance. And in the control group, there were no significant differences among first measurement, second measurement and third measurement. Also there was no significant difference in the mean values assessing nausea, vomiting between experimental and control group (F=1.33, p=0.2645). 2. The results assessing state anxiety showed, in the experimental group, progressive decrease in mean values at each measurement, while the control group showed no significant differences between the mean values of each measurement. Also there was statistically significant difference in state anxiety measurements between experimental and control group(F=4.36, p=0.05). In conclusion, muscle relaxation therapy for school-aged children with chemotherapy could not be effective to decrease nausea, vomiting, but it could be effective to decrease anxiety.
Objective: To assess diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) parameters of the hepatic parenchyma for the differentiation of biliary atresia (BA) from Alagille syndrome (ALGS). Materials and Methods: This study included 32 infants with BA and 12 infants with ALGS groups who had undergone DTI. Fractional anisotropy (FA) and mean diffusivity (MD) of the liver were calculated twice by two separate readers and hepatic tissue was biopsied. Statistical analyses were performed to determine the mean values of the two groups. The optimum cut-off values for DTI differentiation of BA and ALGS were calculated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Results: The mean hepatic MD of BA (1.56 ± 0.20 and 1.63 ± 0.2 × 10-3 mm2/s) was significantly lower than that of ALGS (1.84 ± 0.04 and 1.79 ± 0.03 × 10-3 mm2/s) for both readers (r = 0.8, p = 0.001). Hepatic MD values of 1.77 and 1.79 × 10-3 mm2/s as a threshold for differentiating BA from ALGS showed accuracies of 82 and 79% and area under the curves (AUCs) of 0.90 and 0.91 for both readers, respectively. The mean hepatic FA of BA (0.34 ± 0.04 and 0.36 ± 0.04) was significantly higher (p = 0.01, 0.02) than that of ALGS (0.30 ± 0.06 and 0.31 ± 0.05) for both readers (r = 0.80, p = 0.001). FA values of 0.30 and 0.28 as a threshold for differentiating BA from ALGS showed accuracies of 75% and 82% and AUCs of 0.69 and 0.68 for both readers, respectively. Conclusion: Hepatic DTI parameters are promising quantitative imaging parameters for the detection of hepatic parenchymal changes in BA and ALGS and may be an additional noninvasive imaging tool for the differentiation of BA from ALGS.
The concentrations of some components of the serum in a liver function test were determined in samples of 74 apparently healthy dairy cattle, imported from foreign countries in Jeonnam district, during the periods of June to September of 1975 and July to August of 1976. The ranges, mean concentrations and activities of the SGOT, SGPT, SALP, thymol turbidity, total protein, serum albumin, serum globulin, A/G ratio, total bilirubin and total cholesterol were investigated in this work. This results obtained in the survey were summarized as follows: 1. The SGOT activities obtained from Holstein cows ranged from 57 to 129 Sigma Frankel units/ml, with a mean of $96.5{\pm}19.38$ S.F. units/ml. 2. The SGPT activities obtained from Holstein cows ranged from 5 to 49 Sigma Frankel units/ml, with a mean of $21.27{\pm}9.52$ S.F units/ml. 3. The alkaline phosphatase activities of serum obtained from Holstein cows ranged from 0.3 to 3.8 Sigma Frankel units/ml, with a mean of $1.88{\pm}0.94$ S.F. units/ml. 4. The thymol turbidity of serum obtained from Holstein cows ranged from 0.2 to 4.4 Shank Hoagland units/ml, with a mean of $1.69{\pm}0.30$ S.H units/ml. 5. The total serum protein values of Holstein cows ranged from 5.9 to 8.6g/100ml with a mean of $7.17{\pm}0.65g/100ml$. 6. The serum albumin values of Holstein cows ranged from 2.5 to 4.3g/100ml with a mean of $3.24{\pm}0.28g/100ml$. 7. The serum globulin values of Holstein cows ranged from 2.9 to 5.8g/100ml with a mean of $4.02{\pm}0.72g/100ml$. 8. The A/G ratio of serum obtained from Holstein cows ranged from 0.5 to 1.0 with a mean of $0.78{\pm}0.12$. 9. The total bilirubin of serum obtained from Holstein cows ranged from 7.2 to 0.8mg/100ml, with a mean of $0.32{\pm}0.11mg/100ml$. 10. The total cholesterol of serum obtained from Holstein cows ranged from 50.5 to 240.6mg/100ml with a mean of $135.70{\pm}57.44mg/100ml$. 11. There was little difference in the concentrations of the various serum components between cow groups by birth countries and total cow group, except for SGOT activities, serum alkaline phosphatase activities, thymol turbidity of the Holstein cows from New Zealand.
Blood samples obtained from 200 adults who had visited the "S" general hospital were analyzed to compare the zinc protoporphyrin (ZPP) levels quantified by high performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC) and by hematofluorometer (HF) to investigate the methodological difference if any and the relationship between the levels of blood lead and ZPP among no-lead exposed adults. Also investigated were the distribution of ZPP and protoporphyrin IX (PPIX) concentrations, the establishment of normal levels of blood ZPP and blood lead, and the contribution of age and sex factors to these values. These subjects had no previous occupational exposure to lead. The results obtained were as follows : 1. The mean values of blood lead for male and female subjects were $9.46{\pm}2.44{\mu}g/dl$ and $8.09{\pm}2.17{\mu}g/dl$, respectively. The difference observed in the mean concentrations between male and female subjects was statistically very significant. 2. The mean values of blood ZPP by HPLC for male and female subjects were $15.94{\pm}4.55{\mu}g/dl$ and $22.26{\pm}6.61{\mu}g/dl$, respectively. The difference observed in the mean concentrations between male and female subjects was statistically not significant. The mean values of blood PPIX by HPLC for male and female subjects were $2.51{\pm}1.78{\mu}g/dl$ and $2.81{\pm}1.56{\mu}g/dl$, respectively. The difference observed in the mean concentrations between male and female subjects was statistically not significant. 3. The mean values of blood ZPP by HF for male and female subjects were $28.44{\pm}7.11{\mu}g/dl$ and $37.77{\pm}8.04{\mu}g/dl$, respectively. The difference observed in the mean concentrations between male and female subjects was statistically very significant. 4. No statistically significant correlation was found between the levels of blood ZPP and blood lead. 5. The ratio of ZPP and protoporphyrin IX (PPIX) concentration to erythrocyte protoporphyrin (EP, EP=ZPP+PPIX) concentration was 87.4% and 12.6%, respectively. 6. A statistically very significant correlation was found between the ZPP concentrations determined by HPLC and the values by HF (r=0.7565). The ZPP concentraitons quantified by HF were 1.75 times as high as the values obtained by HPLC. 7. The blood ZPP concentrations quantified by HPLC, HF, and spectrofluorometer (SF) from the blood samples obtained from 14 lead-exposed workers and from 16 no-lead exposed adults showed wide variations. The ZPP concentrations by HF were the highest followed by the levels obtained by SF and by HPLC. In the exposed group, no statistically significant difference was found among three methods of quantifying blood ZPP levels. In the no-lead exposed group, however, statistically significant difference was observed among these methods. The ZPP concentrations by HF were about twice as high as those of by HPLC or by SF. Among three methods of quantifying blood ZPP (HPLC, SF and HF), the results revealed significant difference. Therefore it is suggested that objective methods of quantifying blood ZPP and a system of correcting different ZPP levels be developed by the ministry of Labor.
This paper presents three-dimensional mean velocities, turbulent intensities and Reynolds shear stresses measured in the Y-Z plane of the gas swirl burner with a cone type baffle plate by using an X-type hot-wire probe. This experiments is carried out at the flow rate of 450ℓ/min which is equivalent to the combustion air flow rate necessary to heat release 15,000 kcal/hr in a gas furnace. Mean velocities and turbulent intensities etc. show that their maximum values exist around the narrow slits situated radially on the edge of and in front of a burner. According to downstream regions, they have a peculiar shape like a starfish because the flows going out of the narrow slits and the swirl vanes of an inclined baffle plate diffuse and develop into inward and outward of a burner. The rotational flow due to the inclined flow velocity going out of swirl vanes of a cone type baffle plate seems to decrease the magnitudes of mean velocities V and W respectively by about 30% smaller than those of mean velocity U. The turbulent intensities have large values of 50%∼210% within the range of 0.5
Thirty of healthy non-pregnant Holstein cows being raised in the vicinity of Daejeon, which had been delivered of calves 4 to 6 times since they were imported to Korea, were selected with the purpose of serum chemical analysis. Total protein, albumin, globulin, total cholesterol, urea nitrogen and glucose and A/G ratio were investigated. The results of present investigation were summarized as follows: 1. Ranges and mean values (with standard error) of total protein, albumin and globulin were 6.87~8.58g/100ml, $7.75{\pm}0.60g/100ml$; 2.6~3.5g/100ml(37.1~45.0%), $3.26{\pm}0.27g/100ml$(40.1%); and 3.78~5.48g/100ml(55.1~64.6%), $4.51{\pm}0.43g/100ml$(58.1%), respectively. 2. Range and mean value (with standard error) of A/G ratio were 0.52~0.86 and 0.73~0.093. 3. Range and mean value (with standard error) of glucose were 35~50mg/100ml and $45.2{\pm}9.1mg/100ml$. 4. Range and mean value(with standard error) of total cholesterol were 122~228mg/100ml and $194.6{\pm}11.1mg/100ml$. 5. Serum urea nitrogen showed that the range of 10.5~15.1mg/100ml and the mean value(with standard error) of $12.7{\pm}1.5mg/100ml$.
A study has been conducted experimentally on natural convection heat transfer characteristics of a vertical flat plate with horizontal rectangular fins in air. The effects of fin heights and Rayleigh numbers are mainly investigated. The experimental results are as follows; 1. The mean fin, plate and total Nusselt numbers decrease as dimensionless fin heights H/S increase at $0.50{\leq}H/S{\leq}2.00$. 2. The mean fin surface Nusselt number in case of H/S = 0.50 and $Ra_c=4.33{\times}10^3$ shows its maximum at $X_1$, surface where there is no interference with other fins. 3. Owing to the interference of fins the mean plate Nusselt numbers at H/S=0.50 and 2.00 for $Ra_S=6.57{\times}10^3$ are 35% and 80% respectively less than the mean fin Nusselt numbers. 4. The mean fin, plate and total Nusselt numbers of horizontal rectangular fins show higher values at short fins, but lower values at long fins than those of upward vertical fins.
Let a, b, q be integers with q > 0. The homogeneous Dedekind sum is dened by $$\Large S(a,b,q)={\sum_{r=1}^{q}}\(\({\frac{ar}{q}}\)\)\(\({\frac{br}{q}}\)\)$$, where $$\Large ((x))=\{x-[x]-{\frac{1}{2}},\text{ if x is not an integer},\\0,\hspace{75}\text{ if x is an integer.}$$ In this paper we study the mean value of S(a, b, q) by using mean value theorems of Dirichlet L-functions, and give some asymptotic formula.

This paper defines an improvement for estimating the population mean of a study variable using auxiliary information and known values of certain population parameter(s), when there is a non-response in a study as well as on auxiliary variables. Under a simple random sampling without a replacement (SRSWOR) scheme, the mean square error (MSE) of all proposed estimators are obtained and compared with each other. Numerical illustration is also given.
