We investigate the estimation of the moisture transfer coefficients in porous media by optimization technique which minimizes the functional defined by the squares error of the numerical solution of an inverse diffusion problem from their experimental values of the moisture content at the some time-steps. In this paper, we solve a diffusion equation numerically by the control volume finite element methods.

The ideals of the rings of integers are used to induce rational number system as operators(=group homomorphisms). We modify this inducing method to be effective in teaching rational numbers in secondary school. Indeed, this modification provides a nice model for explaining the equality property to define addition and multiplication of rational numbers. Also this will give some explicit ideas for students to understand the concept of 'field' efficiently comparing with the integer number system.

The purpose of this study is to development the scoring framework for teacher knowledge of fractions. This framework is qualified in the content-validity by professional educators' evaluation and in the reliability by correlation coefficient. 2 math educators judged that this framework is composed of appropriate scoring category, scoring criterion, and scoring level. After 2 teachers scored the tasks, correlation coefficient was calculated between evaluators. The coefficient is evaluated high in that it is more than 0.80.

The purpose of this paper is to diagnose the problems of the revision process of the curriculum, and identify the issues in relation to the 7th mathematics curriculum. From the review on the curriculum revision process in Korea, three issues were identified; timing and scale of curriculum revision, research and curriculum revision, and the relationship between the revision of the overall curriculum and that of a subject curriculum. Regarding the mathematics curriculum, the three issues were raised for further discussion; lack of philosophy behind the mathematics curriculum, optimization of mathematics educational content, and differentiated curricula for students of different abilities.

The present article is dedicated to discussing the methods of teaching schoolchildren to solve creative problems. A few types of Olympiad problems were chosen as a didactic content of the article. The relevance of the choice receives proper grounding. Explanations are followed by examples from pedagogic practice. The article was written for the use of school teachers and educationalists that are researching the problem of improving creative thinking with schoolchildren.

In this paper, we investigate the methodology to calculate the volume of sphere in SanHakSeos. Comparing and analyzing content in Korean and Chinese mathematics education textbooks that uses as a foundation the aforementioned methodology, it is proposed that in future development of mathematics education curriculum the area of solid geometry be taught in greater depth in basic study guides.

The traditional Chinese mathematics education is examination-contended and has its disadvantages. Now, mathematics textbook is being developed in accordance with the 7th educational curriculum. It is expected that qualified textbook reflecting 'differentiated education' concept be developed and published. But there are still many limitations of textbook authorization system to develop 'such' textbook. Many authors of textbook have difficulty in developing creative and qualified textbooks in their own way. In this paper, we deal with what the authors should keep in mind and could reflect related on textbook authorization system in developing textbook. For this purpose, focusing on new 'content principle' of mathematics textbook authorization, the paper presented its educational background.

As the population of senior citizens has been increasing very rapidly, the importance of their education is gradually emphasized. To maintain their mental and physical health, the solution on the biological, physical, and educational approach might be helpful and effective. Especially in the aspect of the educational approach, the mathematics education can be regarded as an important subject for keeping the seniors in a good mental health. The reason is that the ultimate goal of mathematics education is to pursue an enhancement of mathematical thinking ability. By the reason, this study aimed to develop mathematical materials for enhancing seniors' thinking ability, and the seniors usually belong to fifties and sixties. To this purpose, this study selected the six essential mathematical thinking elements and four mathematical domains of 'number and operation', 'shape and measurement', 'possibility', and 'patterns'. Based on these elements, the mathematical materials including the nine types of activities using games and commercial manipulatives were developed. On the subject of 52 female seniors, the instruction was conducted using a part of the materials during 100 minutes. Also, 13 survey items were developed beforehand, and the survey was implemented after the class, and eventually 48 seniors responded in the survey. As a result, it is meaningful to develop the materials not only for enhancing mathematical thinking ability but for understanding and utilizing the content of materials. Furthermore, it is requested that those materials be differentiated according to the degree or the difference of age, academic ability, and sex.
