  • The mesh selectivity of hairtail (Trichiurus lepturus) caught by coastal drift gill net was examined in field experiments with three different mesh sizes (45, 50 and 55 mm) from October to November, 2013 in the coastal areas of south-west of Jeju province. The mesh selectivity tests were conducted with the experimental net to be set middle part of conventional driftnets. The mesh selectivity tests were carried out the total of four times. The selectivity curve was estimated by the Kitahara's and Fujimori's method. In the results, the catch number of hairtail was 653 (125.8 kg) and occupied 34.8% in total catches weight. The optimal mesh size for 50% selection on the minimum landing size (180 mm, AL) and the first maturity size (260 mm, AL) of hairtail were estimated as 47.2 mm and 64.5 mm by master selectivity curves, respectively.

  • Fracture toughness of five different reactor pressure vessel steels was characterized in the transition temperature region by the ASTM E1921-97 standard method using Charpy-sized small specimens. T he predominant fracture mode of the tested steels was transgranular cleavage in the test conditions. A statistical analysis based on the Weibull distribution was applied to the interpretation of the scattered fracture toughness data. The size-dependence of the measured fracture toughness values was also well predicted by means of the Weibull probabilistic analysis. The measured fracture toughness transition curves followed the temperature-dependence of the ASTM master curve within the expected scatter bands. Therefore, the fracture toughness characteristics in the transition region could be described by a single parameter, so-called the reference temperature (T。), for a given steel. The determined reference temperatures of the tested materials could not be correlated with the conventional index temperatures from Charpy impact tests.

  • A model study was conducted for the interpretation of simple geologic structures. Experiments were carried out for the cases of two horizontal beds and dipping beds in a water tank by using Wenner and Schlumberger arrays respectively. As a geologic stratum of experimental model, cement be (cement: sand=1:2) of $70cm{\times}60cm{\times}10cm$ was used. It was found out from a preliminary experiment that a measuring sounding of Wenner arrays is one third of the distance between two current electrodes, and Schlumberger arrays is one fourth of the distance which is a half of the value determined by usual method of calculation. Equi-resistivity curves were obtained for the cases of horizontal beds and dipping beds, and mapped on the longitudinal and cross sections of the water tank. These curves delineate the shape and degree of dip of bed to some extent. The calculation of depth to beds by using a master curve is somewhat complicated and inexact. In this study, new method for this calculation using a ${\rho}_a/{\rho}_1-a$ graph was proposed, and turned out that this method is simpler and exact.

  • The fishing experiment was carried out by the training ship Saebada in order to analyse the mesh selectivity for trawl cod-end, in the Southern Korea Sea and the East China Sea from June. 1991 through August, 1992. The trawl cod-end used in this experiment has the trouser type of cod-end with cover net. and the mesh selectivity was examined for the five kinds of the opening of mesh in its cod-end part. A total of 163 hauls, of which having mesh size 51.2mm ; A 89, 70.2mm ; B 54, 77.6mm ; C 55, 88.0mm ; D 52 and 111.3mm ; E 20 were used respectively. Selection curves and selection parameters were calculated by using a logistic function, S=1/(1+exp super(-(aL+b)) ). The mesh election master curves were estimated by S=1/(1+exp super(-[a(L/M)+$\beta$]) ). and the optimum mesh size were calculated with (L/M) sub(50) of master curve. In these cases 'a' and '$\alpha$' are slope, 'b' and '$\beta$' are intercept. 'L' is body length of the target species of fishes, 'M' is the mesh size, and 'S' denotes mesh selectivity. • Natural rubber was filled with 8 commercial carbon blacks covering range of rubber-grade products at different levels of filler loadings in order to investigate physical compound and vulcanizate properties. It was found that the curves of rubber property vs filler loading of both uncured compounds and vulcanizates can be superposed to one single master curve by introducing an effective volume fraction which is based on CDBP. The effective volume fraction, $V_{EFF}$ was utilized to explain the variation of the stiffness of all rubber compounds. The surface area-corrected effective volume fraction, V', was utilized to explain the formation of bound rubber, rebound and lambourn wear.

  • An efficient method is developed for the shape optimization of 2-D structures. The sequential linear programming is used for minimization problems. Selected set of master nodes are employed as design variables and assigned to move towards the normal direction. After adapting the nodes on the design boundary, the B-spline curves and mesh smoothing schemes are used to maintain the finite element in good quality. Finally, a numerical implementation of optimum design of an automobile torque converter piston subjected to pressure and centrifugal loads is presented. The results shows additional weight up to 13% may be saved after the shape optimization.

  • In this paper, we propose a graphic system for high speed generation of bitmap font data from the outline font data such as PostScript, etc. In desk-top publishing system. A VLSI chip called KAFOG was designed for the high-speed calculation of a cubic Bezier curve, which was implemented in 1.5\ulcorner CMOS gate array using 17,000 gates. A cubic Bezier curve is approximated by a set of line segments in KAFOG at the throughput of 250K curves per second with the clock frequency of 40 MHz. A prototype graphic system was developed using two MC6800 microprocessors and the KAFOG chip. Two microprocessors cooperate in a master and slave mode, and handshaking is used for communication between two processors. KAFOG chip, being controlled by the slave processor, operates as a coprocessor for the calculation of the outline font. The throughput of the prototype graphic system is 40 64$\times$64 outline fonts per sencond.

  • An AQL type variables sampling system with switching rules is proposed. Comparative studies of existing variables sampling standards - MIL-STD-414, ANSI Z1.9, ISO 3951, and BS 6002 - are made, and simulation studies on switching procedures are conducted. Based on comparative and simulation studies, a variables sampling standard for Korean industry is proposed. The master sampling tables of the proposed standard are taken from the variables standard ANSI Z 1. 9 and the switching rules are matched to the attributes standard KS A 3109 to enable us to move between the proposed variables standard and KS A 3109. Composite OC and ASN curves of the proposed standard are calculated for selected combinations of lot sizes and AQL's and they are compared with those of ANSI Z1.9.

  • This study focused on the prediction of the long-term performance of carbon fiber/epoxy composites using Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) and Time-Temperature Superposition (TTS). Single-frequency test, multi-frequency test, and creep TTS test were performed. A sinusoidal load of $20{\mu}m$ amplitude was applied while increasing the temperature from $-30^{\circ}C$ to $240^{\circ}C$ at $2^{\circ}C/min$ for the single-frequency test and the multi-frequency test. The frequencies applied to the multi-frequency test were 0.316, 1, 3.16, 10 and 31.6 Hz. In the creep TTS test, a stress of 15 MPa was applied for 10 minutes at every $10^{\circ}C$ from $-30^{\circ}C$ to $230^{\circ}C$. The glass transition temperature was determined by single-frequency test. The activation energy and the storage modulus curve for each temperature were obtained from glass transition temperature for each frequency by the multi-frequency test. The master curve for the reference temperature was obtained by applying the shift factor using the Arrhenius equation. Also, TTS test was used to obtain the creep compliance curves for each temperature and the master curve for the reference temperature by applying the shift factors using the manual shift technique. The master curve obtained through this process can be applied to predict the long-term performance of carbon fiber/epoxy composites for a given environmental condition.
