A robust minimum-time control (RMTC) strategy is addressed and it is extended to the dual-stage servo design. Rather than conventional switching type sub-optimal controls, it is a reference following control approach where the predetermined minimum-time trajectory (MTT) is tracked by the perturbation compensator based feedback controller. First, the minimum-time trajectory for a mass-damper system is derived. Then, the perturbation compensator to achieve robust tracking performance in spite of model uncertainty and external disturbance is suggested. The RMTC is also applied to the dual-stage positioner which consists of coarse actuator and fine one. To best utilize the actuation redundancy of the dual-stage mechanism, a null-motion controller to actively regulate the relative motion between the two stages is formulated. The performance of RMTC is validated through simulation and experiment.
Additive manufacturing technology is recognized as an optimal technology for mass-customized distributed production because it can yield products with high design freedom by applying an automated production system. However, the introduction of novel technologies to the additive manufacturing industry is generally delayed, and technology uncertainty has been pointed out as one of the main causes. This paper presents the results of the research and analysis of current standardization trends that are related to additive manufacturing by examining the hierarchical structure of the quality system along with the various industry and evaluation standards. Consequently, it was confirmed that the currently unfolding standardization does not sufficiently reflect the characteristics of additive manufacturing technology, and rather can become a barrier to entry for market participants or an element that suppresses the lateral shearing ability of additive manufacturing technology.

In seismic analyses of structures, additional eccentricity is introduced to take account for oscillations of random and unknown origins. In many codes of practice, the torsion about the vertical axis is considered through empirical accidental eccentricity formulation. Due to the random nature of structural systems, it is very difficult to evaluate the accidental eccentricity in a deterministic way and to specify its effect on the overall seismic response of structures. The aim of this study is to develop a procedure for the evaluation of the accidental eccentricity induced by uncertainties in stiffness and mass of structural members, using the neural network techniques coupled with Monte Carlo simulations. This method gives very interesting results for single story structures. For real structures, this method can be used as a tool to determine the accidental eccentricity in the seismic vulnerability studies of buildings.
A summary is presented of what is currently known about the surface temperatures of accreting white dwarfs (WDs) detected in non-magnetic and magnetic cataclysmic variables (CVs) based upon synthetic spectral analyses of far ultraviolet data. A special focus is placed on WD temperatures above and below the CV period gap as a function of the orbital period, $P_{orb}$. The principal uncertainty of the temperatures for the CV WDs in the $T_{eff}-P_{orb}$ distribution, besides the distance to the CV, is the mass of the WD. Only in eclipsing CV systems, an area of eclipsing binary studies, which was so central to Robert H. Koch's career, is it possible to know CV WD masses with high precision.
Utilizing single-epoch spectra and the empirical relation between the size of the broad-line region and AGN continuum luminosity, the so-called single-epoch method has been widely used for estimating AGN black hole masses. However, the systematic uncertainties and the potential biases of this method are not well examined. Taking the full advantage of the high-quality homogeneous spectra from the Lick AGN Monitoring Project (LAMP), we investigate in detail the uncertainties of single-epoch mass estimates by comparing with the reverberation-mapping results. We find that the uncertainty due to AGN variability is less than 0.1 dex, while there is a systematic offset between single-epoch masses and reverberation masses. Particularly, narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxies show that the Hbeta line widths measured from single-epoch (or mean) spectra are systematically larger than those from rms spectra, indicating a potential bias of single-epoch masses. We will present the detailed measurement method, the test of virial assumption, and the systematic uncertainties.
A necessary and suficient conditions is proposed for feedback linearizable SISO systems with unknown constant parameters. It is shown that the systems which satisfy the proposed conditions can be transformed into a controllable linear system with unknown parameter and it can be stabilized using the nonlinear feedback linearizing controller. We also present the analysis and implementation of a nonlinear feedback linearizing control for an Electro-Magnetic Suspension (EMS) system. We show that an EMS system is nonlinear feedback linearizable and satisfies the proposed conditions, and hence that the proposed nonlinear feedback controller for an EMS system is robust against mass parameter perturbation and force disturbance.

In this paper, we present an algorithm for adjusting degree of belief for consistency on the evidence dependency network where various sets of evidence support different sets of hypotheses. It is common for experts to assign higher degree of belief to a hypothesis when there is more evidence over the hypothesis. Human expert without knowledge of uncertainty handling may not be able to cope with how evidence is combined to produce the anticipated belief value. Belief in a hypothesis changes as a series of evidence is known to be true. In non-monotonic reasoning environments, the belief retraction method is needed to clearly deal with uncertain situations. We create evidence dependency network from rules and apply the evidence retraction algorithm to refine belief values on the hypothesis set. We also introduce negative belief values to reflect the reverse effect of evidence combination.
A method using EI-GC-MS is described for the determination of amphetamines in hair. The method is applied to simultaneous quantify amphetamines (methamphetamine, amphetamine, MDMA and MDA). Drugs were extracted in 1 % HCl in methanol from hair. After derivertization with TFAA, the resulting drugs were separated on HP-5MS column during a 16 min program and identified by mass spectrometry with the SIM mode(EI-GC-MS). (omitted)

With development of the earth's subsurface space, the need for a reliable subsurface spatial model such as a cross-section, boring log is increasing. However, the ground mass was essentially uncertain. To generate model was uncertain because of the shortage of data and the absence of geotechnical interpretation standard(non-statistical uncertainty) as well as field environment variables(statistical uncertainty). Therefore, the current interpretation of the data and the generation of the model were accomplished by a highly trained experts. In this study, a geotechnical ontology model was developed using the current expert experience and knowledge, and the information content was calculated in the ontology hierarchy. After the relative distance between the information contents in the ontology model was combined with the distance between cluster centers, a cluster analysis that considered the geotechnical semantics was performed. In a comparative test of the proposed method, k-means method, and expert's interpretation, the proposed method is most similar to expert's interpretation, and can be 3D-GIS visualization through easily handling massive data. We expect that the proposed method is able to generate the more reasonable subsurface spatial information model without geotechnical experts' help.

In this study, we were developed an accuracy of the proposed two dimensional statical inclinometer what used a position sensitive detector(PSD) by an error analysis. The inclinometer consists of a laser source, a mass, an optic-fiber, and a PSD. The gravity direction on a base platform of the inclinometer is changed by an unknown inclination angle. And a laser spot is moved from the origin to another position of a PSD following a variation of an optical path by the gravity. These processes enable the inclinometer to estimate the inclination angle from distance information of the moving spot. A design methodology on the basis of a sensitivity analysis was applied to improve the measurement performance such as a full measuring range and a resolution. But it still has error factors, so we analyze the uncertainty of the inclinometer to evaluate the systematic errors from alignments, assembly error and so on. The experimental performance evaluation about the design objectives as a measuring range and a resolution was performed. And the validity and the feasibility of the design process were certified by an experimental process. Systematic errors eliminated to improve the accuracy of the inclinometer by the corrected measuring model from the calibration process between the inclination angle and the PSD position instead of the nominal measuring model. The ANOVA(analysis of variance) confirmed the effect of eliminating the systematic errors in the inclinometer. From these methodologies, the proposed inclinometer was able to measure with a high resolution(35.14sec) and a wide range(from $-15^{\circ}\;to\;15^{\circ}$
