Sublimation and high-temperature stability of SnO2-doped Bi2O3 ionic materials in controlled atmosphere

  • Sublimation of $Bi_2O_3$-based materials is an important degradation issue for the long-term applications of many electronic devices. A series of $SnO_2$-doped $Bi_2O_3$ materials (SBO), was synthesized, densified, and then tested in air or strong reducing atmosphere. The $SnO_2$-doping effects and sublimation kinetics of the SBO materials were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and precise mass loss measurement. The results show that formation of $Bi_2Sn_2O_7$ phase greatly retards the mass loss of SBO. The SBO samples show a surface sublimation in an energy of $52.6kJ{\cdot}mol^{-1}$. However, the sublimation is also controlled by surface microstructure as the amount of vaporizing species (the Bi or gaseous Bi-oxides) is more than 0.1 mass%. The evaporation is retarded on the rough surface and the mechanism of surface evaporation is changed to diffusional control.

비중격에 발생한 신경초종 1례 (A Case of Neurilemmoma Arising from the Nasal Septum)

  • Neurilemmoma is a benign, well-encapsulated neurogenic tumor that arises in cranial, peripheral, or autonomic nerves that have nerve sheaths containing schwann cells. From 16 to 45% of all neurilemmoma cases occur in the head and neck region and only about 4% of those cases are found in the nose and paranasal sinuses, but very rarely found in the nasal septum. Recently, we experienced a case of isolated neurilemmoma which arose from the nasal septum of a 30-year-old female patient who complained of nasal obstruction and postnasal drip. The mass was broadly based on the right anterior portion of the nasal septum and confined to the nasal cavity, displacing the lateral wall of the nasal cavity and middle turbinate, laterally and posteriorly, respectively. The tumor mass was completely excised through transnasal endoscopic surgery under general anesthesia. The final pathological diagnosis viewed under a microscope after H&E and anti S-100 protein stain was a benign neurilemmoma in which Antoni A type and B type both existed. This report presents a case of neurilemmoma which arose from the nasal septum with reviews of the clinicopathologic features.

삼각단면 극소히트파이프의 작동특성에 관한 기초 연구 (Fundamental study on performance characteristics of a micro heat pipe with triangular cross section)

  • Numerical and experimental studies were performed to examine the characteristics of heat and mass transfer processes for a Micro Heat Pipe(MHP) with a triangular cross-section. Solutions on mass flow rate, pressure variation, and radius of meniscus were obtained using the mathematical model developed by Faghri and Khrustalev. To obtain an increase in capillary limitation, a triangular tube with curved walls was designed and fabricated. The measurement by microscope showed that the radius at corners of the tube was ranging between 0.03-0.05mm. Performance test for MHPs using the triangular tube with curved walls proved a substantial increasement in heat transport limitation, with 4.5W and 2.0W in case of using water and ethanol as a working fluid, respectively. In the previous study by Faghri a limitation of 0.5W was reported for a water MHP with a regular triangular tube.

Damage Profile of HDPE Polymer using Laser-Induced Plasma

  • In this paper we studied the laser-induced crater depth, mass, and emission spectra of laser-ablated high-density polyethylene (HDPE) polymer using the laser-induced plasma spectroscopy (LIPS) technique. This study was performed using a Nd:YAG laser with 100 mJ energy and 7 ns pulse width, focused normal to the surface of the sample. The nanoscale change in ablated depth versus number of laser pulses was studied. By using scanning electron microscope (SEM) images, the crater depth and ablated mass were estimated. The LIPS spectral intensities were observed for major and minor elements with depth. The comparison between the LIPS results and SEM images showed that LIPS could be used to estimate the crater depth, which is of interest for some applications such as thin-film lithography measurements and online measurements of thickness in film deposition techniques.

가스 유량 변화에 따른 식각 공정 결과: VI Probe 활용 가능성 제안 (Gas Flow Rate Dependency of Etching Result: Use of VI Probe for Process Monitoring)

  • VI probe, which is one of various in-situ plasma monitoring sensor, is frequently used for in-situ process monitoring in mass production environment. In this paper, we correlated the plasma etch results with VI probe data with the small amount of gas flow rate changes to propose usefulness of the VI probe in real-time process monitoring. Several different sized contact holes were employed for the etch experiment, and the etched profiles were measured by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Although the shape of etched hole did not show satisfactory relationship with VI probe data, the chamber status changed along the incremental/decremental modification of the amount of gas flow was successfully observed in terms of impedance monitoring.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae와 Mycobacterium phlei에서 DNA유출에 따른 세포벽의 전자현미경적 고찰 (Electron Microscopy of Cell Walls of Saccharomces cervisiae and Mycobacterium phlei in the process of DNA extraction)

  • DNA's were extracted from Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Mycobacterium phlei and the damaging cell walls of these microoragnisms were examined under an electron microscope in the extraction process in which a number of physico-chemical tratments of cells was involved. While the DNA was easily extracted from S. cerevisiae using conventional meylelded very little DNA, of M. phlei was extremely difficult to isolate and yielded very little DNA, applying various methods of isolation published earlier. When the cell walls of S. cerevisiae were examined with the electron microscope, they were not yet damaged even after the cells were treated with sodium lauryl sulfate(SLS) and ethylene diamine tetracetic acid(EDTA), but they were completely destroyed by the treatment of sodium perchlorate followed by the addition of chloroform and a vigorous agitation. Oozing cytoplasm through the broken cell walls was also observed. In the extraction of DNA from M.phlei, the pronase was not effective at the aerobic environment of the sample. When phenol was applied at the last step of DNA isolation, an extreme damage mass yielding little DNA into the solution. Unlike the cells of S.cerevisiae.M.phlei cells showed a tendency of aggregation, thus the destruction of cell walls by sodium hydroxide was seen only on the walls of peripheral cells in the aggregated mass, leaving the walls of the inner cells undamaged.

Preparation and Structure Properties of LaBa2Cu2O9, LaBa22CaCu3O12 and LaBa2Ca2Cu5O15 Perovskites

  • In this study we examine variations in the structure of perovskite compounds of LaBa2Cu2O9, LaBa22CaCu3O12 and LaBa2Ca2Cu5O15 synthesized using the solid state reaction method. The samples' compositions were assessed using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis. The La: Ba: Ca: Cu ratios for samples LaBa2Cu2O9, LaBa22CaCu3O12 and LaBa2Ca2Cu5O15 were found by XRF analysis to be around 1:2:0:2, 1:2:1:3, and 1:2:2:5, respectively. The samples' well-known structures were then analyzed using X-ray diffraction. The three samples largely consist of phases 1202, 1213, and 1225, with a trace quantity of an unknown secondary phase, based on the intensities and locations of the diffraction peaks. According to the measured parameters a, b, and c, every sample has a tetragonal symmetry structure. Each sample's mass density was observed to alter as the lead oxide content rose. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of the three phases revealed that different Ca-O and Cu-O layers can cause different grain sizes, characterized by elongated thin grains, without a preferred orientation.

흰쥐에서 유리섬유의 피하삽입에 의한 경시적 병리조직학적 변화 (Histopathological Changes of Subcutaneous Exposure to Glass Fibers in Rats)

  • To exanime in vivo tissue reactions of glass fibers, we injected glass fibers to rats subcutaneously. We made fibers of average dimensions of approximately $2{\mu}m$ in diameter and $60{\mu}m$ in length. After instilation of glass fiber we sacrificed rats sequentially at 1, 3 and 6 months. At 1 month after injection of glass fibers, the exposure area turned to yellow color and formed well-demarcated round mass. The average size of the mass was $1\times0.3cm$. Grossly detectable mass was decreased in size at 6 months compared to 1 or 3 months. Microscopically, strong foreign body reaction to glass fibers, inflammation and fibrosis were observed until 6 months. Foreign body reaction was increased up to 3 months, but it was decreased after 6 months. In scanning electron microscope, there was many bundles of glass fibers around the inflammation area, but the size of glass fibers were gradually reduced from 1 month to 6 months. These results suggest that subcutaneous exposure of glass fiber can provoke strong tissue reaction including foreign body granulomas, inflammation and fibrosis. But glass fiber itself did not produce any neoplastic changes.

강남콩 고물과 대두 고물의 미세구조와 조직감에 대한 연구 (Microstructure and Textural Properties of Cell Mass from Cooked Kidney bean and Soybean)

  • 강남콩과 대두를 삶아 분리한 고물의 미세구조를 광학 현미경 및 SEM으로 조사하고 그 화학조성과 조직감 특성을 비교하였다. 강남콩 고물의 경우 각각의 세포가 잘 분리되었으나 대두 고물은 여러개의 세포가 결학된 덩어리가 많이 포함되어 있었다. SEM 사진에 의하면 강남콩 고물을 구성하는 세포는 구형이었으나 대두 고물의 구성세포는 긴 자루 형태를 가지고 있었다. 펙틴질을 비교적 많이 함유하는 대두 고물의 경우 높은 접착성과 응집성을 나타내었다.

PCDS: 반도체 및 디스플레이 공정 시 실시간 입자 분석 및 모니터링 방법

  • 현재 반도체 및 디스플레이이 공정 분야는 1 um 이상의 입자에서부터 10 nm이하 크기의 오염입자를 제어해야 한다. 현재 오염원인을 파악하기 위해서 사용하는 방법은 공정 완료 후 대상물(웨이퍼 및 글래스)을 CD-SEM (Critical Dimension Scanning Electron Microscope)와 같은 첨단 분석장비를 사용하여 사후 (Ex-situ) 진행하고 있다. 이러한 방법은 오염원이 이미 공정 대상물을 오염시키고 난 후 그 원인을 분석하는 방법으로 그 원인을 찾기가 어려울 뿐만 아니라, 최근 공정관리가 공정 진행 중(In-situ) 행해져야 하는 추세로 봤을 때 합당한 방법이라 할 수 없다. 이를 해결하기 위해 진공공정 중 레이저를 이용하여 측정하고자 하는 여러 시도들이 있었지만, 여전히 긍정적인 답변을 보여주지 못하고 있다. 본 발표에서 소개하는 PCDS (Particle Characteristic Diagonosis System)은 PBMS (Particle Beam Mass Spectrometer)와 SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope), 그리고 EDS (Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy)를 통합하여 만든 시스템으로 진공공정 중 (In-situ) 챔버 내부에서 발생하고 있는 입자의 크기 분포, 입자의 형상, 그리고 입자의 성분을 실시간으로 분석할 수 있는 방법을 제공한다. 이러한 방법 (PCDS)에 대한 개념과 원리, 그리고 현재까지 개발된 단계에서 얻어진 결과에 대해 소개할 것이다.
