Effect of a non-absorbable gas on the absorption process in a vertical tube absorber was investigated numerically. The water vapor mined with air as the non-absorbable gas is absorbed into LiBr/water solution film. The flow is assumed to be laminar and fully developed in both liquid and gas phases. The diffusion and energy equations were solved in both phases to give the temperature and concentrations, from which heat and mass fluxes were determined. It was shown that the local absorption rate decreases as the mass fraction of air in water vapor increases. The vapor pressure of water at the liquid-vapor interface reduces significantly since the non-absorbable gas is accumulated near the interface. The effect of non-absorbable gases on absorption rate becomes larger as the mass flow rate of the vapor decreases. For small amount of non-absorbable gases the total absorption rate of water vapor increases as the mass flow rate of the vapor decreases. Total absorption rate increases as the mass flow rate of the vapor increases for large concentration of non-absorbables at the inlet of an absorber.

To study oscillation characteristic of steam and non-condensable gas direct contact condensation through multi-hole sparger at low mass flux, a series of experiments of pure steam and mixture gas condensation have been carried out under the conditions of steam mass flux of 20-120kg/m2s, water temperature of 20-95 ℃ and mass fraction of non-condensable gas of 0-5%. The regime map of pure steam condensation through multi-hole sparger is divided into steam chugging, separated bubble, aggregated bubble and escaping aggregated bubble. The bubbles behavior of synchronization in the same hole columns and desynchronized excitation between different hole columns can be found. The coalescence effect of mixture bubbles increases with water temperature and non-condensable gas content increasing. Pressure oscillation intensity of pure steam condensation first increases and then decreases with water temperature increasing, and increases with steam mass flux increasing. Pressure oscillation intensity of mixture gas condensation decreases with water temperature and non-condensable gas content increasing, which is significantly weaker than that of pure steam condensation. The oscillation dominant frequency decreases with the rise of water temperature and non-condensable gas content. The correlations for oscillation intensity and dominant frequency respectively are developed in pure steam and mixture gas condensation at low mass flux.
We examine how the mass assembly of central galaxies depends on their location in the cosmic web. The HORIZON-AGN simulation is analysed at z~2 using the DISPERSE code to extract multi-scale cosmic filaments. We find that the dependency of galaxy properties on large-scale environment is mostly inherited from the (large-scale) environmental dependency of their host halo mass. When adopting a residual analysis that removes the host halo mass effect, we detect a direct and non-negligible influence of cosmic filaments. Proximity to filaments enhances the build-up of stellar mass, a result in agreement with previous studies. However, our multi-scale analysis also reveals that, at the edge of filaments, star formation is suppressed. In addition, we find clues for compaction of the stellar distribution at close proximity to filaments. We suggest that gas transfer from the outside to the inside of the haloes (where galaxies reside) becomes less efficient closer to filaments, due to high angular momentum supply at the vorticity-rich edge of filaments. This quenching mechanism may partly explain the larger fraction of passive galaxies in filaments, as inferred from observations at lower redshifts.

The variation of spark plug location have one of the effects on combustion characteristics. Several parameters of the effect on combustion characteristics are shape of combustion chamber, the spark plug position, turbulence flow and so on. This paper presents an experimental study according to variation of spark plug protrusion and PDA valve which have effects on characteristics of combustion and emission in single cylinder gasoline engine. Also, this paper emphasized that combustion stabilization was making by way of the reinforcement of the turbulent flow with the PDA valve. A feasibility and necessity of combustion pressure based cylinder spark timing control according to spark plug protrusion has been examined. So, this was obtained COV$\_$imep/ and the mass fraction burned(MFB) and the specific fuel consumption(sfc). Using the results of the test, the effects of the variable spark plug location and PDA valve can be improved fuel consumption and be available for the combustion stability.
A numerical study of the mixing of two fluids(pure water and a solution of glycerol in water) in a microchannel was carried out. By varying the glycerol content of the glycerol/water solution, the variation in mixing behavior with changes in the difference of the properties of the two fluids(e.g., viscosity, density, diffusivity) was investigated. The mixing phenomena were tested for three micromixers: a square mixer, a three-dimensional serpentine mixer, and a staggered herringbone mixer. The governing equations of continuity, momentum and solute mass fraction were solved numerically. To evaluate mixing performance, a criterion index of mixing of mixing uniformity was proposed. In the systems considered, the Reynolds numbers based on averaged properties were 1 and 10. For low Reynolds number (Re = 1), the mixing performance varied inversely with mass fraction of glycerol due to the dominance of molecular diffusion. The mixing performance by diffusion deteriorated due to a significant reduction in the residence time of the fluid inside the mixers.
Bimodal flocculation describes the aggregation and breakage processes of the flocculi (or primary particles) and the flocs in the water environment. Bimodal flocculation causes bimodal size distribution with the two separate peaks of the flocculi and the flocs. Extracellular polymeric substances and ionic species common in the water environment increase the occurrence of bimodal flocculation and flocculi-floc size distribution, under the flocculation mechanisms of electrostatic attraction and polymeric bridging. This study investigated bimodal flocculation and flocculi-floc size distribution, with respect to the extracellular polymeric substance concentration and ionic strength in the kaolinite-containing suspension. The batch flocculation tests comprising 0.12 g/L of kaolinite showed that the highest flocculation potential occurred at the lowest xanthan gum (as extracellular polymeric substances) concentration, under all the ionic strengths of 0.001, 0.01, and 0.1 M NaCl. Also, it was important to note that the higher ionic strength resulted in the higher flocculation potential, at all the xanthan gum concentrations. The bimodal flocculation and flocculi-floc size distribution became apparent in the experimental conditions, which had low and intermediate flocculation potential. Besides the polymeric bridging flocculation, steric stabilization increased the flocculi mass fraction against the floc mass fraction, thereby developing the bimodal size distribution.
Sucrose synthase (EC 2.4.1.13) has been purified from the plant cytosolic fraction of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L. cv. Amethyst) nodules. The native enzyme had a molecular mass of $356{\pm}15kD$. The subunit molecular mass was $87{\pm}2kD$, and a tetrameric structure is proposed for sucrose synthase of chickpea nodule. Optimum activities in the sucrose cleavage and synthesis directions were at pH 6.5 and 9.0, respectively. The purified enzyme displayed typical hyperbolic kinetics with substrates in cleavage and synthesis reactions. Chickpea nodules sucrose synthase had a high affinity for UDP ($K_m$, $8.0{\mu}M$) and relatively low affinities for ADP ($K_m$, 0.23 mM), CDP ($K_m$, 0.87 mM), and GDP ($K_m$, 1.51 mM). The $K_m$ for sucrose was 29.4 mM. In the synthesis reaction, UDP-glucose ($K_m$, $24.1{\mu}M$) was a more effective glucosyl donor than ADP-glucose ($K_m$, 2.7 mM), and the $K_m$ for fructose was 5.4 mM. Divalent cations, such as $Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, and $Mn^{2+}$, stimulated the enzyme activity in both the cleavage and synthesis directions, and the enzyme was very sensitive to inhibition by $HgCl_2$ and $CuSO_4$.

The present study investigated the effects of experimental parameters on the thermal characteristics of an in-line 6x1 array of discrete heat sources for a test multichip module using water, PF-5060 and paraffin slurry. The parameters were heat flux of 10-40W/$cm^2$. Reynolds number of 3,000~20,000 and mass fraction up to 10% for paraffin slurry The size of paraffin slurry was within 10~40$\mu$m before and after experiments. The local heat transfer coefficients for the paraffin slurry were larger than those for water. Thermally fully developed conditions were observed after the third or fourth row (five or seven times of the chip length) and the paraffin slurry showed effective cooling performance at the high heat flux The paraffin slurry with the mass fraction of 5% showed the most efficient cooling performance when the heat transfer and the pressure drop in the test section are considered simultaneously. The experimental data at the fourth and sixth rows are best agreed with the values predicted by the Malina and Sparrow`s correlation among other correlations, and the empirical correlations for water and 5% paraffin slurry were obtained at the first and sixth rows when the channel Reynolds number is over 3,000.

Due to emission of vehicles during loading/unloading, ventilation system in Roll-on/Roll-off ship is inevitable; however it is very difficult to predict the ventilation performance before it is finally built in. Although the requirements for the ventilation system include air change rate and maximum allowable concentration of CO in the cargo holds, even prototype tests are hardly able to quantify the ventilation performance. In the present paper, a new method to assess the ventilation performance of Roll-on/Roll-off ship is proposed by using computational fluid dynamics. The air exchange is modeled by introducing multi-species transport of existing air In the holds and new air from the ventilation system. Conservation of multi-species as well as 3D Navier-Stokes equation are solved numerically in time dependent manner. Several cases of different configuration are considered. The results include predicted mass fraction of new air in the holds. It is also presented that CO concentration can be estimated based on the predicted air change performance. Due to the lack of experimental data, the computed results are not verified; however the proposed method can be applied as au assessment tool.
