Model-based localization and mass-estimation methodology of metallic loose parts

  • A loose part monitoring system is used to detect unexpected loose parts in a reactor coolant system in a nuclear power plant. It is still necessary to develop a new methodology for the localization and mass estimation of loose parts owing to the high estimation error of conventional methods. In addition, model-based diagnostics recently emphasized the importance of a model describing the behavior of a mechanical system or component. The purpose of this study is to propose a new localization and mass-estimation method based on finite element analysis (FEA) and optimization technique. First, an FEA model to simulate the propagation behavior of the bending wave generated by a metal sphere impact is validated by performing an impact test and a corresponding FEA and optimization for a downsized steam-generator structure. Second, a novel methodology based on FEA and optimization technique was proposed to estimate the impact location and mass of a loose part at the same time. The usefulness of the methodology was then validated through a series of FEAs and some blind tests. A new feature vector, the cross-correlation function, was also proposed to predict the impact location and mass of a loose part, and its usefulness was then validated. It is expected that the proposed methodology can be utilized in model-based diagnostics for the estimation of impact parameters such as the mass, velocity, and impact location of a loose part. In addition, the FEA-based model can be used to optimize the sensor position to improve the collected data quality in the site of nuclear power plants.

  • A loose part monitoring system is used to identify unexpected loose parts in a nuclear reactor vessel or steam generator. It is still necessary for the mass estimation of loose parts, one function of a loose part monitoring system, to develop a new method due to the high estimation error of conventional methods such as Hertz's impact theory and the frequency ratio method. The purpose of this study is to propose a mass estimation method using a Markov decision process and compare its performance with a method using an artificial neural network model proposed in a previous study. First, how to extract feature vectors using discrete cosine transform was explained. Second, Markov chains were designed with codebooks obtained from the feature vector. A 1/8-scaled mockup of the reactor vessel for OPR1000 was employed, and all used signals were obtained by impacting its surface with several solid spherical masses. Next, the performance of mass estimation by the proposed Markov model was compared with that of the artificial neural network model. Finally, it was investigated that the proposed Markov model had matching error below 20% in mass estimation. That was a similar performance to the method using an artificial neural network model and considerably improved in comparison with the conventional methods.

  • 선형 서보 응용분야에 사용되는 속도제어기를 정밀하게 조정하기 위해서는 부하를 포함한 가동부 전체의 정밀한 질량이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 수직축 선형 영구자석 동기전동기의 가동부 질량을 추정하기 위한 방법으로 축차 최소자승 추정 알고리즘을 적용한 질량 추정방법을 제안한다. 먼저 수직축 선형 영구자석 동기 전동기의 기계적인 동적 시스템에 대한 DARMA(deterministic autoregressive moving average)모델을 유도하고, 유도된 DARMA모델에 축차 최소자승 추정 방법을 적용한 질량 추정방법을 제안하며, Matlab/Simulink를 이용한 시뮬레이션 및 실험 결과를 제시하여 제안한 방법으로 수직축 질량을 무부하 및 부하 시 모두 정밀하게 추정할 수 있음을 보였다.

  • In order to tune the speed controller in the linear servo applications the accurate information of a mover mass including a load mass is always required. This paper suggests the mass estimation method of a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor(PMLSM) by using the parameter estimation method of Least-Squares algorithm. First, the deterministic autoregressive moving average(DARMA) model of the mechanical dynamic system is derived. The application of the Least-Squares algorithm shows that the mass can be accurately estimated both in the simulation results and in the experimental results.

  • 선형 서보 응용분야에서 속도제어기를 정밀하게 조정하기 위해서는 부하 및 가동자의 질량을 항상 정확하게 알고 있어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 선형 영구자석 동기전동기의 가동부 질량을 추정하기 위하여 상수추정 알고리즘으로 최소자승법을 적용한 질량 추정방법을 제안하였다. 먼저 최소자승법을 적용하기 위한 기계적인 동전 시스템에 대한 DARMA(deterministic autoregressive moving average)모델을 유도하고, 유도된 DARMA모델에 최소자승법을 적용한 시뮬레이션 덴 실험 결과를 제시하여 제안한 방법으로 질량을 정밀하게 추정할 수 있음을 보였다.

  • 인공 중이 (IMEHD, implantable middle ear hearing device)용 플로팅 매스 트랜스듀서는 제작 과정상에서 발생하는 구조적 오차 및 제작 결합시의 문제점들로 인해 설계 시 의도와 다른 진동 특성을 가질 수 있게 되고, 이렇게 제작된 진동 트랜스듀서는 향후 실제 환자에게 이식되었을 때의 진동체 진동 성능을 예측하기 어려운 문제점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 제작된 플로팅 매스형 트랜스듀서에 대해 설계값과의 비교 평가 및 향후 컴퓨터 모델화된 청각 중이 집중 소자 모델에 적용이 가능하도록 기 제작된 진동체의 집중 소자 모델 파라미터들을 추정할 수 있는 방법을 제안하였으며, 제안된 방법을 LabVIEW 기반의 그래픽 유저 인터페이스 소프트웨어로 구현하였다. 제안된 방법은 실제 제작된 플로팅 매스형 진동체의 진동 변위 및 위상 데이터를 이용하여 해당 진동체의 집중 모델 파라미터들을 순차적 이차 프로그래밍 (SQP, sequential quadratic programming) 방법으로 추정하는 방식이다. 구현된 방법을 이용하여 측정 데이터에 가해지는 잡음의 양에 따른 플로팅 매스형 진동 트랜스듀서의 집중 모델 파라미터 추정 시의 발생 오차 변화를 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통해 조사하여 본 방법의 파라미터 추정 정확도를 확인하였다. 또한, 실제로 제작한 인공중이용 진동 트랜스듀서에 대해 측정된 진동 변위 및 위상 데이터를 이용하여 진동체의 집중 모델 파라미터들을 추정하였으며, 기존 설계값들과 비교를 통해 제안된 방법의 유용성을 평가하였다.

  • Highly accurate control of the air-fuel ratio is important to reduce exhaust gas emissions of the gaseous-fuel engines. In order to achieve this purpose, inlet air mass flow must be measured exactly, and precise engine models are necessary to design engine control systems. In this paper, the effects of water vapor and gaseous fuel that change the air mass flow are studied. The effective air mass ratio is defined as the air mass flow divided by the mixture mass flow, and also it is applied to the estimation of the inlet air mass flow. The presence of the gaseous fuel and the water vapor in the mixture reduces the air partial pressure and the effective air mass ratio of the gaseous-fuel engines. The Experimental results for an LPG engine show that the estimation of the inlet ai mass flow based upon the effective air mass ratio is more accurate than that of the normal air mass flow.

  • Air partial pressure ratio and inlet air mass flow are influenced by water vapor and gaseous fuel in mixture on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) engines. In this paper, the effects of the water vapor and the gaseous fuel that change the air mass flow and the air-fuel ratio are studied. Effective air mass ratio is defined as the air mass flow divided by mixture mass flow, and also it is applied to the estimation of the inlet air mass flow and the air-fuel ratio. The presence of the gaseous fuel and the water vapor in the mixture reduces the air partial pressure and the effective air mass ratio of the CNG engines. The experimental results for the CNG engine show that estimation of the air-fuel ratio based upon the effective air mass ratio is more accurate than that of a normal mode.

가상현실을 위한 다중 접촉 실시간 햅틱 랜더링 (Real-Time Haptic Rendering for Multi-contact Interaction with Virtual Environment)

  • This paper presents a real-time haptic rendering method for multi-contact interaction with virtual environments. Haptic systems often employ physics-based deformation models such as finite-element models and mass-spring models which demand heavy computational overhead. The haptic system can be designed to have two sampling times, T and JT, for the haptic loop and the graphic loop, respectively. A multi-rate output-estimation with an exponential forgetting factor is proposed to implement real-time haptic rendering for the haptic systems with two sampling rates. The computational burden of the output-estimation increases rapidly as the number of contact points increases. To reduce the computation of the estimation, the multi-rate output-estimation with reduced parameters is developed in this paper. Performance of the new output-estimation with reduced parameters is compared with the original output-estimation with full parameters and an exponential forgetting factor. Estimated outputs are computed from the estimated input-output model at a high rate, and trace the analytical outputs computed from the deformation model. The performance is demonstrated by simulation with a linear tensor-mass model.

  • Candida utilis를 model균주로 하여 세포증식과 기질소모를 on-line 간접측정하고자 개인용 컴퓨터(IBM PC-AT)와 interface된 quadrupole mass spectrometer로 발효 배기가스를 분석하였다. 5분마다 연속적으로 분석되는 질소, 산소, 이산화 탄소 및 수증기의 mole백분율(%)로부터 산소 소비속도(OUR)와 이산화 탄소 발생속도(CER)를 on-line으로 계산하였다. 미리 실험 결과치로부터 결정한 maintenance와 수율 상수들($k_1k_2 $ 값을 이용하여 세포농도와 기질인 포도당의 농도를 on-line으로 간접추정하였다. 간접추정된 값들은 실험적으로 측정한 세포농도 및 기질농도와 잘 일치함을 알 수 있었다.
