This paper describes a study of the influence of a dynamically flexible building structure on pressures inside and net pressures on the roof of low-rise buildings with a dominant opening. It is shown that dynamic interaction between the flexible roof and the internal pressure results in a coupled system that is similar to a two-degree-of-freedom mechanical system consisting of two mass-spring-damper systems with excitation forces acting on both the masses. Two resonant modes are present, the natural frequencies of which can readily be obtained from the model. As observed with quasi-static building flexibility, the effect of increased dynamic flexibility is to reduce the first natural frequency as well as the corresponding peak value of the admittance, the latter being the result of increased damping effects. Consequently, it is found that the internal and net roof pressure fluctuations (RMS coefficients) are also reduced with dynamic flexibility. This model has been validated from experiments conducted using a cylindrical model with a leeward end flexible diaphragm, whereby good match between predicted and measured natural frequencies, and trends in peak admittances and RMS responses with flexibility, were obtained. Furthermore, since significant differences exist between internal and net roof pressure responses obtained from the dynamic flexibility model and those obtained from the quasi-static flexibility model, it is concluded that the quasi-static flexibility assumption may not be applicable to dynamically flexible buildings. Additionally, since sensitivity analyses reveal that the responses are sensitive to both the opening loss coefficient and the roof damping ratio, careful estimates should therefore be made to these parameters first, if predictions from such models are to have significance to real buildings.
In an actual design, none of the structures with shear behaviors will be designed for torsional moments. Any failure or damages to roofs, infills, shear walls, and braces caused by an earthquake, will inevitably result in relocation of center of mass and rigidity of the structure. With these changes, the dynamic characteristics of structure could be changed during an earthquake at any moment. The main objective of this paper is to obtain the relationship between time-varying eccentricity of load and corner lateral displacement. In this study, various methods have been used to determine the structural response for time-varying lateral corner displacement. As will be seen below, some of the structural calculation methods result in a significant deviation from the actual results, although these methods include the interaction effects of modes. Controlling the lateral displacement of structure can be performed in different ways such as, passive dampers, friction dampers, semi-active systems including the MR damper and active Systems. Selecting and locating these control systems is very important to bring the maximum safety with minimum cost into the structure. According to this study will be show the relation between the corner lateral displacements of structure and time-varying eccentricity by different kind of methods during an earthquake. This study will show that the response of the structure at the corners due to an earthquake can be very destructive and because of changing the eccentricity of load, calculating the maximum possible response of system can be carried out by this method. Finally, some kind of systems must be used for controlling these displacements. The results shows that, the CQC, DSC and exact methods is comply each other but the results of Vanmark method is not comfortable for these kind of buildings.
Field measurements of various structures have been conducted for many purposes. Measurement data obtained by field measurement is very useful to determine vibration characteristics including dynamic characteristics such as the damping ratio, natural frequency, and mode shape of a structure. In addition, results of field measurements and modal identification can be used for modal updating of FEM analysis, for checking the efficiency of damping devices and so on. This paper shows some examples of field measurements and modal identification for structural health monitoring. As the first example, changes of dynamic characteristics of a 15-story office building in four construction stages from the foundation stage to completion are described. The dynamic characteristics of each construction stage were modeled as accurately as possible by FEM, and the stiffness of the main structural frame was evaluated and the FEM results were compared with measurements performed on non-load-bearing elements. Simple FEM modal updating was also applied. As the next example, full-scale measurements were also carried out on a high-rise chimney, and the efficiency of the tuned mass damper was investigated by using two kinds of modal identification techniques. Good correspondence was shown with vibration characteristics obtained by the 2DOF-RD technique and the Frequency Domain Decomposition method. As the last example, the wind-induced response using RTK-GPS and the feasibility of hybrid use of FEM analysis and RTK-GPS for confirming the integrity of structures during strong typhoons were shown. The member stresses obtained by hybrid use of FEM analysis and RTK-GPS were close to the member stresses measured by strain gauges.
This study is experimentally analyzed to extract the major parameters affecting the performance of the smoke-control system and the relations of pressure difference between vestibule and supply air pressure zone effect of supply mass flow rate and leakage area in the smoke-control zone. To obtain this, the mock-up building of three-story scale with a total of 10 compartments was constructed, and several apparatus were also installed for in-situ measurement of the ventilation flow rate, pressure difference between compartments, smoke defensive air velocity, the opening-closing force of door, etc. This article show that pressure difference in the smoke-control zone is significantly related with leakage area of vestibule in low pressure region, leakage area of supply air pressure in over pressure region and both of them in pressure control region when the pressure control range of damper is 45 Pa~55 Pa.

The future combat system is likely to be studied and developed in terms of enhancing both firepower and mobility simultaneously. Increased firepower often necessitates a heavier firing system. In return, the body of the vehicle needs to be light-weight in order to improve the mobility of the whole system. For this reason, in the areas of weapons systems such as the tank and self-propelled artillery, a number of studies attempting to develop designs that reduce recoil force against the body of the vehicle are being conducted. The current study proposes a tank construction that has a mass-spring-damper system with two degrees of freedom. A tank structure mounted with a specific soft recoil system that was implemented using a soft recoil technique and another tank structure based on a general recoil technique were compared to each other in order to analyze the recoil forces, the displacements of recoil, and the firing intervals when they were firing. MATLAB-Simulink was used as a simulating tool. In addition, the relationship between the movement of the recoil parts and the positions of the recoil latches in each of the two structures were analyzed. The recoil impact power, recoil displacement, firing interval, and so on were derived as functional formulas based on the position of the recoil latch.
A new technique to mitigate irregular buildings with soil structure interaction (SSI) effect subjected to critical seismic waves is presented. The L-shape in plan irregular building for various reasons was selected, subjected to seismic a load which is a big problem for structural design especially without separation gap. The L-shape in plan building with different dimensions was chosen to study, with different rectangularity ratios and various soil kinds, to show the effect of the irregular building on the seismic response. A 3D building subjected to critical earthquake was analyzed by structural analysis program (SAP2000) fixed and with SSI (three types of soils were analyzed, soft, medium and hard soils) to find their effect on top displacement, base shear, and base torsion. The straining actions were appointed and the treatment of the effect of irregular shape under critical earthquake was made by using tuned mass damper (TMD) with different configurations with SSI and without. The study improve the success of using TMDs to mitigate the effect of critical earthquake on irregular building for both cases of study as fixed base and raft foundation (SSI) with different TMDs parameters and configurations. Torsion occurs when the L-shape in plan building subjected to earthquake which may be caused harmful damage. TMDs parameters which give the most effective efficiency in the earthquake duration must be defined, that will mitigate these effects. The parameters of TMDs were studied with structure for different rectangularity ratios and soil types, with different TMD configurations. Nonlinear time history analysis is carried out by SAP2000 with El Centro earthquake wave. The numerical results of the parametric study help in understanding the seismic behavior of L-shape in plan building with TMDs mitigation system.

This study is on the structural control experiment for a small scale three-story building structure employing on active mass damper subjected to earthquake loading. $\mu$-synthesis controllers, which belong to robust control strategies, were designed and their performance were experimentally verified. Frequency-dependent weighting functions corresponding to disturbance input and controlled output were defined and combined to produce optimal $\mu$-synthesis controllers. The experiment result shows 60-70% reduction in RMS responses under the band-limited white noise excitation and 30-45% reduction in peak responses under the scaled earthquake excitations. Good agreement was obtained between the simulations based on the identified mathematical model and experimental results. And the simulations for the system with uncertainties show that the designed controllers are robust within a specified range of uncertainties.
The vibration of a vehicle, which is caused by and transmitted from the engine, has significant effect on the ride comfort and the dynamic characteristics of the engine mount system has direct influence on the vibration and noise of the vehicle. This paper examines the body shake caused by the engine excitation force on engine key-off of a jeep by experiment and computer simulation using a general purpose mechanical system program, DADS. The computer simulation model consists of the engine, body including frame, and front and rear axles and each axle has right and left tires. The force element between body and suspension is modeled as a combination of suspension spring and damper, and the unsprung mass has roll and pitch motion. The body shake obtained from experiment was compared with the result of computer simulation. Parametric study of the body shake on engine key-off is performed with changing the stiffness of engine mount rubber, the engine mount installation angle and position of engine mounts by using the verified computer simulation model.

In this paper, a virtual force is generated and fed back to the operator to make the teleoperation more reliable, which reflects the relationship between a slave robot and an uncertain remote environment as a form of an impedance. In general, for the teleoperation, the teleoperated mobile robot takes pictures of the remote environment and sends the visual information back to the operator over the Internet. Because of the limitations of communication bandwidth and narrow view-angles of camera, it is not possible to watch certain regions, for examples, the shadow and curved areas. To overcome this problem, a virtual force is generated according to both the distance between the obstacle and the robot and the approaching velocity of the obstacle w.r.t the collision vector based on the ultrasonic sensor data. This virtual force is transferred back to the master (two degrees of freedom joystick) over the Internet to enable a human operator to estimate the position of obstacle at the remote site. By holding this master, in spite of limited visual information, the operator can feel the spatial sense against the remote environment. It is demonstrated by experiments that this collision vector based haptic reflection improves the performance of teleoperated mobile robot significantly.

This study aims to optimize, design, and predict the MTMDs performance in SDOF systems using spectral analysis, and then apply their results to MDOF structures. Given the importance of spectral analysis in the design of new engineering structures, achieving a method for designing TMDs based on this theory can be of great importance for structural designers. In this study, several convenient combinations of MTMDs in an SDOF system are first considered to minimize the maximum displacement. For calculating the frequency ratios of dampers, an innovative technique is adopted in which the values of different modal responses obtained from the spectral analysis are approached together. This procedure is done using a harmony search (HS) algorithm. Also, using the random vibration theory, the damping ratio of the dampers is obtained. Then, an equation is presented for predicting the performance of MTMDs. For evaluating this equation, three structures with different stories are designed. Some of the presented combinations of dampers are added to them. The time history analyses are employed to analyze the structures under 30 different accelerograms. The findings indicated that the proposed equation could efficiently predict the performance of the MTMDs. Furthermore, four different patterns of damper distribution along the height of the structures are defined. The effect of them on the maximum deformation of the structures in time history analyses is discussed, and an equation is presented to estimate this effect. The results indicated that the average and maximum error percentages of the proposed equations are about three and seven percent, respectively, compared to the time history analyses results, which are negligible values.
