  • In this paper, occurrence tendency of the sick and wounded on board ship is analyzed. The medical management systems according to shipping companies are investigated. Furthermore, comparative analysis with the medical support system for seafarers in advanced country is carried out.

Development of a Training Model for Electro-Technical Officers on Ships (선박 전자기관사를 위한 교육모델 개발)

  • The purpose of this paper is to develope a training model and to make a syllabus for electro-technical officers(ETOs) on ship. In order to complete the purpose, firstly we study on qualification for electro-technical officers and also examine the foreign, domestic cases. Secondly, through the STCW convention and the IMO Model Course 7.08, we have compared the standards of competence for officers in charge of an engineering watch and ETO, and analyze the additional standards of competence to acquire the ETO's licenses. Finally, based on the results of this, we will suggest the development of a training model that officers in charge of an engineering watch must complete in order to obtain an ETO's license. This paper is expected to be useful in the educational institution preparing for training course.

Study on Characteristics of Flow Boiling Heat Transfer in Multi channels (수평 다채널 관에서의 유동 비등 열전달 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Two-phase flow boiling heat transfer in micro-channels was experimently investigated. The test section consisted of 15 rectangular micro-channels with a depth of 0.45mm, width of 0.20mm. The experiments were performed for heat fluxes ranging from 5.6 to 46.1kW/m2 and mass fluxes from 150 to 450kg/m2s using FC-72 as the working fluid. According to the results, at the low heat flux region, heat transfer coefficient strongly depends on the heat flux, while heat transfer coefficient at the high heat flux region was independent on the heat flux. Four correlations were used to predict the heat transfer coefficient. The measured heat transfer coefficient was compared with four correlations. It was found that Kaew-On and Wongwises's correlation well predicted the measured data, within the MAE of 40.3%.

  • The objective of this study is to empirically analyze the relationship between sea temperature and jellyfish blooms. Ever since the 2000s, jellyfish population has been dramatically increased, which brought negative influence on the national health and the fisheries activities. Jellyfish blooms have been recognized as an effect of climate change, but there has been no empirical evidence to support such relationship. In this paper, the relationship between sea temperature and jellyfish blooms has been analyzed by using the regional jellyfish monitoring data and coastal stationary observing data of National Institute of Fisheries Science. Since the dependant variable carries left censoring issues, we used the panel tobit model. Our results indicate that there are statistically significant positive relationship between sea temperature and jellyfish blooms.

A Study on the Development Strategy of Qingdao Bonded Port in China (청도 보세항구의 발전방안에 관한 연구)

  • With the rapid development of global economy and trade, international logistics has made great progress in the past few years. As an irreplaceable part in China's foreign trade industry, ocean shipping, especially. ports management has played a crucial role in the development of China. In 2008, The Qingdao Qianwan bonded port was built in China, and has developed in to a door to connect China to the world. This paper introduced and compared the similarities and differences among the Yangshan Bonded Port, Dalian Dayawan Bonded Port, Tianjin Dongjiang Bonded Port and Qingdao Bonded Port. According to SWOT analysis, a further discussion was then made on the potential problems of Qingdao Bonded Port. At last, some development strategies are given accordingly.

  • The total number of deaths by traffic accidents is decreasing every year in our country. However, in 2009, children died in traffic accidents at a rate of 2.3 deaths per 100,000 children, which was higher than the average of OECD countries (1.9 deaths per 100,000 children). In particular, traffic accidents are showing rapid increase in school zone during the past 2 years because of problems in the designation and management of school zone. Traffic safety facilities such as road sign, reflector mirror, speed bump have the ultimate limit of vehicle accidents prevention. Thus, in school zone, children safety is still not guaranteed due to illegal parking and the absence of driver's awareness of safety. Therefore, In order to protect children from traffic accidents within school zones, we have realized a safe school zone system, which enables the drivers to better know the intended school zones and creates pedestrian environment through unmanned monitoring camera, using LabVIEW.

  • With the advent of the 21th century, Korea surrounded by the three sides of the sea has been underlining the fact that it will become one of the strongest maritime powers near future as ever in the past. The study shows that in order to build up Korea as a powerful maritime country, not only should we urge its government to take more in-depth political interest in the field of the shipping industry, but the effective training and the managing program for sea-farers employing in th forefront of the shipping business(as the centric panel of the competent merchant marine officers) also have to be taken into a sufficient consideration. According to the large scale, higher speed and automatization of vessels, a number of seamen who have so well-workable brain as to dexterously operate the up-dated scientific equipments have come into be demanded. This study therefore has not only suggested that an improvement for the system of the education for merchant marine officers and the effective scheme of the management on them, but especially underlined the problems of seamen' and their families' economic and social securities as well.

  • This paper presents the fabrication techniques of microcooling fins for microelectronics applications. The various types of cooling fins have been fabricated on the surface of a silicon wafer (4inch-N type) by using wet etching technique. The designed micro fins and micro channels are considered as an effective method for cooling microelectronics devices generating high heat flux. Further we extensively investigate the design processes fabricating micro fins and channels which can cool the heat generated from high density electronics devices.

  • The Keyongin Inland waterway will connect with Han-River and the Northen part of the Incheon-seaway and this way will be opened at the early of October this year. In this regard, the Incheon container terminal is under constructing for 1,000 TEU & 550 TEU container vessels at the place of leftside of the Seohae lockgate. However the terminal length is not still fixed due to at a great expenses of construction and dosposal matter of the dredged soil. So this paper will suggest the optimum berth length by using the full mission shiphandling simulator for berthing and unberthing shipmaneuvering. And also evaluates the design standard of harbor construction rules and analysis optimum berth length against ship's length for safe shiphandling at terminals in accordance with the customary practices of the major ports in Korea.

  • When the shorelines were contaminated by oil, oiled shorelines were assessed systematically by SCAT and guideline of cleanup activities and shorelines treatment endpoints based on SCAT were established and operated in case of well developed countries like USA and Canada. However, shorelines cleanup assessment technique are not established clearly in our country. In this study, we studied on the shorelines cleanup assessment technique suitable for Korean shorelines feature. That is, composition of SCAT organization, classification of shorelines and division of oiled shorelines by segment that are elements of SCAT were studied, and we suggest the measures related to above elements suitable for shorelines feature of our country.
