Post LGM Fluvial Environment and Palynological Changes of South Korea

  • In Korea terrestrial fluvial sequences can be used as pedological and sedimentological markers indicating a millenium-scale environmental and climatic changes imprinted in fluvial sub-environments, which in turn are represented by the cyclicity of fluvial sands, backswamp organic muds, and flooding muds intercalations of frostcracked or dessicated brown paleosols. Post LGM and Holocene fluvial and alluvial sedimentary sequences of Korea are formed in such landscapes of coastal, floodplain, backswamp and hillslope areas. Among them, the most outstanding depositional sequences are fluvial gravels, sands and organic mud deposits in coastal, fluvial, or alluvial wetlands. The aim of this study is to explain the sedimentary sequences and palynofloral zones since the last 15,000years, on the basis of organic muds layers intercalated in fluvial sand deposits. Jangheung-ri site of Nam river, Soro-ri site of Miho river, Youngsan rivermouth site in Muan, Oksan-ri site of Hampyeong and Sanggap-ri site of Gochang are illustrated to interpret their sedimentary facies, radiocarbon datings, and palynofloral zonation. Up to the Middle to Late Last Glacial(up to 30-35Ka), old river-bed, flooding, and backswamp sequences contain such arboreal pollens as Pinus, Abies, and Picea, and rich in non-arboreal pollens like Cyperaceae, Gramineae, Ranunculaceae, and Compositae. During the LGM and post-LGM periods until Younger Dryas, vegetation has changes from the sub-alpine conifer forest(up to about 17-11Ka), through the conifer and broad-leaved deciduous forest, or mixed forest (formed during 16,680-13,010yrB.P), to the deciduous and broad-leaved forest (older than 9,500yrB.P). In the Earliest Holocene flooding deposits, fragments of plant roots are abundant and subjected to intensive pedogenic processes. During Holocene, three arboreal pollen zones are identified in the ascending order of strata; Pinus-Colyus zone(mixed conifer and deciduous broad-leaved forest, about up to 10Ka), Alnus-Quercus forest (the cool temperate deciduous broad-leaved forest, about 10Ka-2Ka), and Pinus forest (the conifer forest, about after 2Ka), as examplified in Soro-ri site of Cheonwon county. The palynological zonations of Soro-ri, Oksan-ri, Sanggap-ri, Youngsan estuary, and Gimhae fluvial plain have been recognized as a provisional correlation tool, and zonations based on fluvial backswamp and flooding deposits shows a similar result with those of previous researchers.

심층신경망을 이용한 KOMPSAT-3/3A/5 영상으로부터 자연림과 인공림의 분류 (Classification of Natural and Artificial Forests from KOMPSAT-3/3A/5 Images Using Deep Neural Network)

  • 위성 원격탐사 기법은 산림 모니터링에 적극적으로 활용될 수 있으며 우리나라 독자 운영 위성인 다목적실용위성을 활용하였을 때 특히 의미 깊다. 최근 들어 위성 원격탐사 자료에 머신러닝 기법을 적용함으로써 산림 모니터링을 수행하는 연구가 다수 이루어지고 있다. 머신러닝 기법을 통하여 제작된 산림모니터링 정보는 기존 산림 모니터링 방법의 효율성을 향상시키는 데에 활용할 수 있다. 머신러닝 기법의 경우 관심 지역과 활용 데이터의 특징에 따라 분류 정확도가 크게 달라지므로 다양한 모델을 적용함으로써 가장 효과적인 분류 결과를 도출하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 우리나라 삼척 지역에 대해 심층신경망을 적용함으로써 인공림과 자연림의 분류 성능을 확인하였다. 그 결과 픽셀 정확도가 약 0.857, F1 Score가 자연림과 인공림에 대해 각각 약 0.917과 0.433로 확인되었다. F1 score를 보았을 때 인공림의 분류 성능이 절대적으로는 낮은 수준을 나타냈다. 하지만 기존의 인공림과 자연림 분류 성능에 대해 F1 score를 기준으로 약 0.06, 그리고 0.10 향상된 성능을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 볼 때에 합성곱신경망 기반의 추가적인 모델을 적용함으로써 보다 적절한 모델을 분석할 필요가 있다.

환경 스트레스 조건에 따른 화경버섯 균사의 생물발광 변화 (Changes in Bioluminescence of Omphalotus japonicus Mycelia under Environmental Stress Conditions)

  • 생물발광은 생물체 내에서 빛이 방출되는 현상을 말한다. 이 현상은 루시페라아제(luciferase)에 촉매되는 루시페린(luciferin)의 산화 반응에 의해 나타난다. 생물발광은 균류를 포함하여 다양한 생물 종에서 나타남이 알려져 있다. 현재까지 약 80여 종의 균류에서 생물발광이 관찰됨이 보고 되었다. 화경버섯(Omphalotus japonicus)은 한국에 자생하는 대표적인 생물발광버섯이다. 본 연구에서는 화경버섯 균사의 생물발광에 대하여 조사하였다. 그 결과, 고체 배지에서 자란 화경버섯 균사체의 가장자리 부근에서 중심부에 비해 높은 발광이 관찰되었다. 또한 균사 표면에 상처를 내자 해당 부위에서 강한 생물발광이 관찰되었다. 이러한 생물발광의 증가는 처리 후 3시간에 최대로 나타났다. 다음으로 극단적인 온도 스트레스에 의한 생물 발광의 변화에 대해서도 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 외부 자극에 의한 상처 스트레스와 달리 고온이나 저온 스트레스에 의해 균사의 생물 발광이 억제됨을 확인하였다. 환경 스트레스에 의해 일어나는 생물발광 변화의 생리학적 및 생태학적 의미를 밝히기 위해 더 많은 연구가 필요할 것이다.

Identification of Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Markers in the Laccase Gene of Shiitake Mushrooms (Lentinula edodes)

  • We identified single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers in the laccase gene to establish a line-diagnostic system for shiitake mushrooms. A total of 89 fungal isolates representing four lines, including Korean registered, Korean wild type, Chinese, and Japanese lines, were analyzed. The results suggest that SNP markers in the laccase gene can be useful for line typing in shiitake mushrooms.

  • 본 연구는 입체적 어장 개발을 위해 수산자원 증대의 토대가 되는 해조장의 확대와 생태계의 고밀도·고효율화를 위한 기초적 연구로 수평판형 중층계류식 인공해저시스템의 파랑응답특성에 관한 실험적 연구를 수행하였다. 실험은 2차원 수조에서 다른 두 가지 모형의 수평판을 세 가지 다른 수심에 각각 고정 혹은 계류시켜 실시하였다. 실험에서 모형 고정시의 작용유체력 특성과 모형 계류시의 파랑응답 및 계류력 특성을 살펴보았으며, 또 각 조건에서 모형의 파랑제어특성을 검토하였다.

생태경관자원 활용을 고려한 신안군 경관기본계획 (Visual Landscape Plan for Shinan Province with Ecological Landscape Resources)

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the visual landscape plan for Shinan province with ecological landscape resources, which is comprised of more than 1,000 islands. The plan was done by the order of image plan, landscape structure plan and detained landscape plan. The image of Shinan province was elicited as 'nature', 'complexity' and 'connectivity', by the aspects of planning, cognitive and strategic sides. The landscape zones are planned, such as leisure zone, rural & marine ecological zone and marine tourism zone, and the landscape axes are also set, such as marine axis, ecological axis and circular axis. Especially to conserve the ecological resources, some conservation zones are proposed and design guidelines for each landscape type are also provided, which are not commonly included in the urban landscape plan. Consequently, the landscape plan and ecological environmental plan were complementary to each other. In the detailed landscape plan, more specific plans and design guidelines are suggested for coastal scenery, village and forest scenery, historical and cultural landscape management and promotion. To improve the visual landscape in terms of planning and administrative aspects, the visual landscape plan has become increasingly important for the local governments. The establishment of visual landscape plan may hopefully help to make Shinan province more beautiful and attractive. The landscape plan and ecological environment plan should be integrated, and the further discussion and research are necessary.

Occurrence and pathogenicity of Pythium (Oomycota) on Ulva species (Chlorophyta) at different salinities

  • Pythium species are ubiquitous organisms known to be pathogens to terrestrial plants and marine algae. While several Pythium species (hereafter, Pythium) are described as pathogens to marine red algae, little is known about the pathogenicity of Pythium on marine green algae. A strain of a Pythium was isolated from a taxonomically unresolved filamentous Ulva collected in an intertidal area of Oslo fjord. Its pathogenicity to a euryhaline Ulva intestinalis collected in the same area was subsequently tested under salinities of 0, 15, and 30 parts per thousand (ppt). The Pythium isolate readily infected U. intestinalis and decimated the filaments at 0 ppt. Mycelium survived on U. intestinalis filaments for at least 2 weeks at 15 and 30 ppt, but the infection did not progress. Sporulation was not observed in the infected algal filaments at any salinity. Conversely, Pythium sporulated on infected grass pieces at 0, 15, and 30 ppt. High salinity retarded sporulation, but did not prevent it. Our Pythium isolate produced filamentous non-inflated sporangia. The sexual stage was never observed and phylogenetic analysis using internal transcribed spacer suggest this isolate belongs to the clade B2. We conclude that the Pythium found in the Oslo fjord was a pathogen of U. intestinalis under low salinity.

Investigation of the Fungal Diversity of the Federated States of Micronesia and the Construction of an Updated Fungal Inventory

  • The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) is an island country in the western Pacific and is a known biodiversity hotspot. However, a relatively small number of fungi (236 species) have been reported till July 2021. Since fungi play major ecological roles in ecosystems, we investigated the fungal diversity of FSM from various sources over 2016 and 2017 and constructed a local fungal inventory, which also included the previously reported species. Fruiting bodies were collected from various host trees and fungal strains were isolated from marine and terrestrial environments. A total of 99 species, of which 78 were newly reported in the FSM, were identified at the species level using a combination of molecular and morphological approaches. Many fungal species were specific to the environment, host, or source. Upon construction of the fungal inventory, 314 species were confirmed to reside in the FSM. This inventory will serve as an important basis for monitoring fungal diversity and identifying novel biological resources in FSM.

부산의 전통.향토음식의 현황 고찰 (A Rearch of Traditional & Native Local Foods in Busan)

  • Busan is an underdeveloped region in food culture, though it has geographically convenient conditions of location to make good use of marine products from the sea and the river, a variety of grain and vegetables, and forest products. Thus, in this research, I studied the traditional and local native foods of Busan, focusing on there origins and the backgrounds of their development. There are many traditional and local native foods in Busan, Pajun, Macguli, Jaechupguk, Gupoguksoo and etc. For the development of food culture of Busan, We will keep researching its traditional and local native foods and try to form a new pattern of food culture, making the adventage of an international trading city.

OSMI ocean color products with updated cross-calibration coefficients

  • To date the KOMPSAT OSMI(Ocean Scanning Multi-spectral Imager) data have been widely used in natural disaster monitoring such as Typhoon, Asian Dust, Red Tide, and Forest Fire. Quantitative analyses related to the marine ecosystem have been delayed because they require good quality of data through Cal/Val activities. To resolve such problem, KARI performed the OSMI crosscalibration study with SeaWiFS team. In this study, we will demonstrate the OSMI ocean color products with updated cross-calibration coefficients and compare them to the previous cross-calibration results.
