Ship can not sail without water. Ships sail along different routes with different natural conditions. Thus ships sailing at different sea areas have their respective characteristics. The northern sea area and the southern one of China have different characteristics, that is to song, the sea in the northern area is shallow and that in the southern area is deep, Chinese ships developed into different types in order to adapt to this.
The Korea Strait comprises a continental shelf in a shallow sea that experienced glacio-eustastic sea-level changes during the Quaternary period. A long core of 76.6 m in length was acquired at the South Sea Drilling Project site (SSDP-101; 34°19.666'E and 128°16.335'N) with a 60 m water deep. The uppermost massive sand beds were interpreted as sandy sediments of the nearshore marine sand ridge in the shallow sea during the transgression of sea level, whereas the lower parts of alternating sandy and muddy beds were interpreted as deposits in marsh, estuary, and tidal flat environments. A three-layered geoacoustic model was reconstructed for the sedimentary succession in the high-resolution seismic profile based on a 140-grain size and sediment type of core SSDP-101. For the actual underwater simulation and experiments, the in-situ P-wave speeds were calculated using the sound speed ratio of the Hamilton method.
This paper presents the explorations of hydrothermal vents located in the Marina Arc and Back Arc Basin using the deep-sea ROV Hemire. These explorations were conducted by KRISO and KIOST to demonstrate the capability of Hemire in various applications for deep-sea scientific research. The missions included the following: (1) to search the reported vents, (2) conduct visual inspections, (3) deploy/recover a sediment trap and bait traps, (4) sample sediment/water/rock, (5) measure the magnetic field at the vent site, and (6) acquire a detailed map using multi-beam sonar near the bottom. We installed three HD cameras for precise visual inspection, a high-temperature thermometer, a three-component magnetometer, and a multi-beam sonar to acquire details of the bottom contour or identify vents in the survey area. The explorations were performed in an expedition from March 23 to April 5, 2016, and the missions were successfully completed. This paper discusses the operational process, navigation, and control of Hemire, as well as the exploration results.
As we move into the 21st century, the importance of marine resources is certain to increase due to the accelerated exhaustion of land resources. For the sustainable development of the world, therefore, we need to develop marine chemical bioindustries which enable us to produce industrial chemicals, advanced materials, fuels, and minerals from marine resources such as seaweeds and seawater. In this review, we selected five marine chemical bioindustries which include 1) seaweed polysaccharide industry, 2) marine advanced materials industry, 3) marine biofuel industry, 4) marine sea salt industry, and 5) deep-sea water industry, and discussed the current status and future prospects of each industry sector. It has been assessed that the future of marine chemical bioindustry looks very promising although there are many needs for more intensive research investments on marine bioprocess development through close cooperation between marine biologists and biochemical engineers.
This study was conducted to investigate the community structure and distributional pattern of meiobenthos in the deep-sea bottom of the Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone of the northeastern Pacific during July 2003. The samples were collected using the multiple corer at 13 stations along the transects fiom $5^{\circ}N\;to\;17^{\circ}N$. The most abundant meiobenthos was nematodes and followed by sarcomastigophorans; these two taxa comprised more than 70% of the total abundance at all stations. For size distribution analyses showed that animals which fit into the sieve mesh size of 0.063mm were abundant. The maximum density of meiobenthos was $147inds./10cm^2$ at station located in $7^{\circ}N$, and the minimum density was $6 inds./10cm^2$ at station located in $14^{\circ}N$. More than 60% of meiobenthos were distributed at surface sediment layer within 1.0cm, and the peak abundance was found at $0{\sim}0.25cm$ layer. The latitudinal distribution pattern of meiobenthos in the study area seemed to be related with the primary productivity of the surface water that is also connected to the water circulation pattern of the Pacific Ocean near the Equator, diverging at latitude of $8^{\circ}N$ and conversing at $5^{\circ}N$.

The scenario of $CO_2$ disposal in the deep-sea are thought to be possible method to reduce atmospheric $CO_2$ concentrations. However, it is necessary to clarify the effects of elevated $CO_2$ concentrations on both marine organisms and marine ecosystems. In this paper the literatures on the biological impact of elevated $CO_2$ concentrations in seawater and recent studies on the effects of elevated $CO_2$ concentrations on marine animals are reviewed. Elevated $CO_2$ concentrations may affect the physiological functions of marine animals such as acid-base regulation, blood oxygen transport and respiratory system, and ultimately lead to the death of marine animals. Although the fish used in the early studies on $CO_2$ effects are temperate, shallow-water species, deep-sea species should be experimented for the future study on $CO_2$ sequestration in the deep ocean.

To verify the characteristics of deep ocean water, oceanographic observation and qualitative analysis were carried out from March of 2001 to February of 2002. Spatiotemporal variation of water quality of deep ocean water were discussed from survey results around development site and along northeastern coastal sea of Korean peninsular. Vertical distribution of water temperature and salinity were measured, and sampled seawater were analyzed in order to determine the definition of deep ocean water resource and the position of intake device for supplying qualified deep ocean water resource.

Temperature difference power generation using sea water is a method repeatedly closed liquefaction and gasification by using the ammonia (refrigerant) of the deep sea water and surface water with a temperature difference between turning the turbine. The larger the temperature difference between the nature of the temperature characteristic energy generation development, the better. This is the story that the surface waters of the deep-water temperature difference is large. But the winter is not large temperature difference between surface water and deep water has lowered energy efficiency. And desalination technologies accounted for 97% of the earth, but we can not eat the technology to convert sea water into fresh water, fresh water produced by the desalination technology that is available for various industries such as irrigation, drinking water in the vessel. In this paper, LNG transport vessels, based on the LNG transport ship to the temperature difference power generation using cold energy of thermal energy and LNG marine diesel engines, which use the existing order to improve the temperature of the surface waters of the season that is the current problem we propose that a complex development of desalination and desalination of seawater freezing research into hybrid research and utilizing the cold energy of the engine.

In order to understand the dynamic characteristics of water column environments in the Western Pacific seamount area (approximately $150.2^{\circ}E$, $20^{\circ}N$), we investigated the water mass and the behavior of water column parameters such as dissolved oxygen, inorganic nutrients (N, P), and chlorophyll-a. Physico-chemical properties of water column were obtained by CTD system at the nine stations which were selected along the east-west and south-north direction around the seamount (OSM14-2) in October 2014. From the temperature-salinity diagram, the main water masses were separated into North Pacific Tropical Water and Thermocline Water in the surface layer, North Pacific Intermediate Water in the intermediate layer, and North Pacific Deep Water in the bottom layer, respectively. Oxygen minimum zone (OMZ, mean $O_2$$73.26{\mu}M$), known as dysoxic condition ($O_2<90{\mu}M$), was distributed in the depth range of 700~1,200 m throughout the study area. Inorganic nutrients typified by nitrite + nitrate and phosphate showed the lowest concentration in the surface mixed layer and then gradually increased downward with representing the maximum concentration in the OMZ, with lower N:P ratio (13.7), indicating that the nitrogen is regarded as limiting factor for primary production. Vertical distribution of water column parameters along the east-west and south-north station line around the seamount showed the effect of bottom water inflowing at around 500 m deep in the western and southern region, and concentrations of water column parameters in the bottom layer (below 2,500 m deep) of the western and southern region were differently distributed comparing to those of the other side regions (eastern and northern). The value of Excess N calculated from Redfield ratio (N:P=16:1) represented the negative value throughout the study area, which indicated the nitrogen sink dominant environments, and relative higher value of Excess N observed in the bottom layer of western and southern region. These observations suggest that the topographic features of a seamount influence the circulation of bottom current and its effects play a significant role in determining the behavior of water column environmental parameters.
The more the population grow, the severer the shortage of a basic human needs such as clean water, food, energy resources and so on. Recently, we aware that deep sea water can be utilized to solve comprehensively food, energy and water problems. In this study, inhibitory effect of the deep sea water of east coast (DSW) on platelet aggregation were investigated using washed platelet and beneficial effect of the change of lipid concentration on serum at various time intervals for three weeks. In this study six groups of 6-month-old Sparague-Dawley rats were examined. An intact group served as controls (C-1D : breeding for one day, C-1W : breeding for one week, C-3W : breeding for three week). The fourth group (1D-DSW) supplemented with DSW for one day. The fifth group (1W-DSW)supplemented with DSW for a week. The sixth group (3W-DSW)supplemented with DSW for three weeks. The total cholesterol and triglyceride concentration on serum of supplemented groups with the DSW for one or three weeks were significantly decreased. The serum HDL-cholesterol level in the DSW groups were significantly higher than the level in the control group. The supplementation of DSW for one day did not appear to have such a beneficial effect on lipid level. The ability of platelet aggregation of supplemented groups with DSW was less than control group. These results suggest that supplementation with DSW is positively influence on lipid concentration and platelet aggregation.
