  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the components of manuscript collection development policy for Korean literary museums through literature review and the comparative analysis of the components of manuscript collection development policies of internal and external literary museums. As the examples of internal literary museums, the private rules of material selection of World Women's Literature Center and collection development policy of National Library of Korea have been studied. As the examples of external literary museums, 14 original collection development policies from British and American literary museums have been analyzed. According to the study results, the 11 basic elements and 14 selective elements were proposed for the manuscript collection development policy of Korean literary museums.

  • In the course of completing a National Research Foundation project, I recently found that a handwritten Korean manuscript of The Tale of Mei Fei is kept in the Adan Collection, which is a significant scholarly discovery given that no relevant research is available. The editions of the Tale of Mei Fei available in Korea include ${\ll}$藝苑?華${\gg}$ edition, ${\ll}$說?${\gg}$ edition, and the handwritten manuscript in Korean collected in the Adan Collection. Being the only handwritten Korean translation of the work, the Tale of Mei Fei in the Adan Collection was appended by the translations of ${\ll}$한셩뎨됴비연합덕젼${\gg}$ and ${\ll}$당고종무후뎐${\gg}$. As for the practice of translation of the work, literal "word to word" translation was done for the most part of the text; some sentences were occasionally translated liberally. Also, as for the poems in the text, pronunciation of each Chinese character was provided along with the translated text.

  • This paper deals with the study of a manuscript on Rakhine history which is deposited today in Oriental and India Office Collection of the British Library as the accession number OR 3465 A. The External Criticism of this manuscript shows that it is a manuscript, which was commissioned Nga Mi to compile by Sir Arthur P. Phayre by making references of the existing Rakhine chronicles in the early colonial period, as Phayre wanted a historical account with an outline of the royal dynasties. The Internal Criticism reveals that the compiler Nga Mi did not invent the writing of his own but drawn the sources from various Rakhine chronicles in compiling his work. And Sir Arthur Phayre who used this Nga Mi Chronicle or OR 3465 A as the chief source in writing Rakhine history. He did not analyse the mythical, supernatural and improbable elements in Nga Mi Rakhine Razawin. Phayre did not problematicize any historical issue from Nga Mi Chronicle. One of the outstanding examples of the legend of King Min Saw Mon is discussed in this paper. As Arthur Phayre took this account from Nga Mi Chronicle and framed the story into a convincing narrative in his "History of Burma", the scholars after Phayre have continued to present the legend as a historical fact.

  • This article aims to (1) come up with a new way of the classification by analysing 2,475 of the documents in the Archives of the National Debt Redemption Movement(NDRM) recently registered as the Memory of the World; (2) make a proposal of their rules for archival description with reference to ISAD(G) 2ND EDITION, ISSAR, and NAK. This leads to the suggestion of necessity to make archivistically the rules for archival description of archives in the Memory of the World and manage them on the rules, in view of the recent trend of increasing the number of the records registered as the Memory of the World and adding the records even after their registration. The archives of NDRM is an artificial collection. It can be said that the classification of manuscript collection on the basis of the preparation subject according to Schellenberg's principle of the provenance is the most systematic. On the foundation of it, the suggestions of various classifications by activities, times, sorts of records, medias, topics, etc. would permit to search and interpret the archives in the Memory of the World with more efficiency.

  • This paper seeks to provide an overview on the newly-discovered manuscript in gasa style. It is significant in that the entire in gasa style has not been seen before, although occasionally scripts incorporate sijo or gasa as inserted songs. The author of this manuscript is believed to be Bae Hyung (裵珩: ?-?), who lived in Daegachon, Yongdu-Myun, Sunchon-Gun in Jeonra-Namdo Province. It is estimated that the manuscript was written in April of King Gojong 37 years (year 1900). This , so-called the Yang Jee-Uk Collection Script, applies Samdan Pyunun Daewoo Method (三段片言對偶法), using Jongbae style (縱排法) to over 27 pagesof the book. The author seems to have collected the main scenes of and changed them into gasa style. It is also possible to postulate that the author might have simply divided the lines to make it resemble the existing gasa style, as the original was already in the form of lyrics. There are a few mistakes found in the manuscript. They seem to have been made while the author was recording the sung P'ansori, rather than while copying from a different manuscript.

  • "The Collection of Yi Chungmugong" manuscript is a hand-written manuscript of the volume 1 consisting of the Collection, published in 1795 and it seems to have completed the contents of the book by correcting the first part of the book before print. The book adopted a form of Seonjangbon(線裝本) of Ochimanjeongbeop(五針眼訂法) and was urgently needed some measures to preserve because it has been much damaged by stains, loss and oxidation due to moisture on the bottom of it. In addition, a scientific investigation was applied to find out the features of the quality of paper and fiber used for the book, which would be reflected in the process of the preservation. The characteristics of paper were measurmented for size(cm), thickness(mm), weight(g), basis weight($g/m^2$), density($g/cm^3$), chain line and laid lines($3{\times}3cm$). The measurement showed that the characteristics of paper used in royal books published in the late Joseon Dynasty. For the paper-fiber of the book, C stain was used and the technique revealed that the book is made of bast fibre of paper mulberry and its binding strings are cotton. SEM-EDS analysis was performed to verify the existence of additives in paper. As a result of the analysis, The crystallized calcium was detected in addition to the main components carbon(C) and oxygen(O). This artifact is the unique final version of "The collection of Yi Chungmugong", which has considerable value in terms of academic research, besides it helps to understand how to print books of Joseon Dynasty. And it also has a very accurate information of when and where the book was made, which primarily could be resources to conserve and restore for other book heritage.

  • BACKGROUND: Immigration to South Korea from neighboring Asian countries has risen dramatically, primarily due to marriage between Korean men and foreign women. Although Filipino women rank fourth among married immigrant women, little is known about the health condition of this population. This manuscript focuses on the design and methods of Filipino women's diet and health study (FiLWHEL). SUBJECTS/METHODS: FiLWHEL is a cohort of Filipino women married to Korean men, aged 19 years old or over. The data collection comprised three parts: questionnaire, physical examination, and biospecimen collection. Questionnaires focused on demographic factors, diet, other health-related behaviors, acculturation and immigration-related factors, medical history, quality of life, and children's health information. Participants visited the recruitment site and answered the structured questionnaires through a face-to-face interview. We also measured their anthropometric features and collected fasting blood samples, toenails, and DNA samples. Recruitment started in 2014. RESULTS/CONCLUSIONS: Collection of data is ongoing, and we plan to prospectively follow our cohort participants. We expect that our study, which is focused on married Filipino women immigrants, can elucidate nutritional/health status and the effects of transitional experiences from several lifestyle factors.

  • Objective: It aimed at proposing the Korean Journal of Child Studies' strategy to be promoted to international journal based on the style and format of scholarly journals and journal metrics. Methods: The review of the journal in not only print version, but also an online version was done from the perspective of style and format. The total citation and impact factor were manually calculated from Web of Science Core Collection. Results: More professional level manuscript editing is required for maintaining the consistency of the style and format. The verso page and back matters should be improved to international level. Journal homepage should be reconstructed by adopting digital standards for the journal, including journal article tag suite, CrossMark, FundRef, ORCID, and text and data mining. To become an international journal, transformation into English journal and deposition to PubMed Central is mandatory. Conclusion: Since the editor's and society members' performance is top-notch, it will be possible to promote the journal up to international level soon. Society should guarantee the term of editor for enough time and support her with full cost and complete consent.
