An Education Method of Computational Thinking using Microbit in a Java-based SW Lecture for Non-major Undergraduates (비전공자 대상 Java SW교육 강좌에서 마이크로비트를 이용한 컴퓨팅적 사고과정 교육 방법)

  • In the case of Java programming education for non-major undergraduates, there are no examples of applying the physical computing education method. The advantage of physical computing education is that you can directly check the SW processing output result according to the input value of digital and analog sensor, so that you can quickly correct programming errors and improve learner's learning interest and satisfaction. In this paper, we use the microbits to combine physical computing education with basic Java programming education. In addition, according to the computational thinking process, we proposed an educational method for creating Java programs using microbits. Through block programming to control the microbits, we designed an algorithm and applied a training method to convert it into a Java program. In addition, the results of students' evaluations were analyzed in the course applying the education method, and the effectiveness of the education method using the microbit was analyzed.

A Study on the Structural Equation Modeling of the Relationships among Major Satisfaction, Career Search Efficacy, and Career Exploration Behavior with Marine Science High School Students (수산해양계열 고등학생의 전공만족, 진로탐색 자기효능감 및 진로탐색행동의 구조적 관계 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to find the structural relationships among major satisfaction, career search efficacy, and career exploration behavior with marine science high school students. For investigating this topic, 524 students were surveyed from the marine science high schools. In order to find out the structural relationships among major satisfaction, career search efficacy, and career exploration behavior, structural equation modeling was used. Followings were the results of the research: (a) Major satisfaction effected significantly on the career search efficacy. (b) Career search efficacy effected significantly on the career exploration behavior. (C) There was not significant direct cause and effects from major satisfaction to career exploration behavior, but indirect effect was significant. Some recommendations were suggested for increasing career exploration behavior of marine science high school students.

Case Study and Needs Analysis on Convergence Education in Engineering Colleges (공과대학 융합교육에 대한 사례조사 및 요구분석)

  • The necessity of convergence education is more emphasized based on the education policy for fostering creative men of talent. Inside universities, however, programs for training talented individuals are still at primary stage. Universities understanding the importance of convergence education and thus founding some major fields of convergence studies have experienced hosts of troubles. The paper discusses the necessary plans of supports from the government and the university to activate the convergence education in accord with the social demands. Twenty-eight professors in engineering colleges participated in the survey for reviewing the required factors for the convergence education. In addition, structured interviews were carried out with three specialists working in industry and academic area of convergence technology. The study could suggest the following activation plans based on the government supports: (1) establishing a support center of convergence education, (2) founding a major field of convergence, (3) developing curriculums and curriculum subjects, and (4) hosting related conferences and forums. Also, the study could suggest the following activation plans based on the university supports: (1) developing special programs on convergence education in accord with the industrial demands, (2) revising regulations and administrative systems more flexible for the convergence education, and (3) providing incentives to the participants in the convergence education.

A Brief History of Home Economics Education after Modern Period (GAEWHA-KI) - (1900~1945) (개화기이후 가정과교육의 사적 고찰 - 1900~1945년을 중심으로 -)

  • Brief history of home economics education after modern period (GAEWHA-KI) (1900~1945). Education of home economics in our country is known to have been developed mainly through school education by need of women education. The first period is construed "from 1890's until before the conclusion of ULSABOHO treaty, which can be referred to as an inception of the education for home economics by including subjects of sewing and manual arts in the curriculum of EWHA-hakang. The second period is "from the conclusion of ULSABOHO treaty in 1905 until the act of higher education for women was decreed, transition of the education for home economics and major curriculum thereof and the text books of home economics are handled. The third period is "from the promulgation of CHOSUN education act in 1911 until the fall of Japan education of home economics in this period is described in terms of national education under the Japanese colonial rule. The education was first renewed by women missionaries with the onset of "blooming period (GAEWHA-KI)" and school education of home economics far educating women was initiated at EWHA-hakdang in 1896, in 1908, with the pronulgation of the act of higher education for women, major curriculum and subjects were set up and text books of home economics were also compiled. In accordance with CHOSUN education act in 1911, housekeeping and sewing subjects at secondary school were taught 10 hours a week with the emphasis on general education and practical subject oriented training. Home economics under the Japanese rule was so educated as to imbue, students with the sense of nationality by teaching Korean custom and family habits.

Analysis of Curriculum of 4- year Nursing Schools (4년제 간호학과 교과과정 분석)

  • Purpose: This study was performed to identify the present status of graduate nursing curriculum in Korea, so as to provide basic data for improving nursing education. Methods: In order to analyze the present nursing curriculum, data were collected from the home page of 81 nursing colleges in Korea. The subjects and credits of nursing curriculum were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: The total graduate credits were 137.6, credits of general education were 31.4 and nursing major courses were 96.5 credits. The credits of nursing major courses were as follows: 'basic science for nursing' was 22.0 credits, 'basic nursing' was 11.9 credits, 'subjects having same name with nursing license examination' were 66.9 credits and 'other nursing subjects' were 11.9 credits. These results showed that the credits of general education and nursing major courses were decreased while the subjects and credits related to the courses for nursing license examination have not changed compared with the past. Conclusion: Considering the change of social needs and nursing student character, it is necessary to improve the nursing curriculum. We suggest that further research to facilitate nursing curriculum development and adapting to social change should be undertaken.

Observation and Distribution of Ectomycorrhizal Fungi in Pinus Roots

  • Detailed structures of ectomycorrhizae formed in Pinus roots were observed with various microscopes: light, fluorescence, and scanning electron microscopes. The mantles and Hartig nets commonly found in the structure of ectomycorrhiza were newly observed according to developmental stage by various staining. The mycelia were observed to be composed of coiled types on the surface of epidermal root during early stage and fused to form mantles of smooth fungal layers, loosing mycelia with some viscous liquid secreted. The ectomycorrhizal hyphae in anatomical roots penetrated the cortical layer and formed obviously mantle and Hartig net. The round spots of ectomycorrhizal mycelia were observed morphological distribution from the cortical layer to vascular bundle of stele in the ectomycorrhizal roots of Pinus species and especially scattered at the area of meristem at the root tip as longitudinal sections. Those mycelia penetrated seemed to move into other roots by means of vascular bundle of ectomycorrhizal roots and newly form ectomycorrhizal roots of dichotomous branches.

  • This paper purports to analyze the works of elementary school teachers belonging to the educational information division, who are key players in making information-based elementary school education, to analyze any problems with the works, and to find out the best solutions to the problems under the given circumstance. Its research topics are: characteristics and current status of school network, and major structural characteristics and problems with operation of school network at N Elementary School; the works of elementary school teachers belonging to the educational information division (hereinafter referred to as "the Teachers"); the Teachers' recognition of education information and any problems with their works; and finally, countermeasures to reduce the Teachers' work load.

Examining the relationship between educational effectiveness and computational thinking in smart learning environment

  • The $4^{th}$ industrial revolution has brought innovation in the educational environment. The purpose of this study is to verify the educational effectiveness of smart learning environment especially with the computational thinking. A big data analysis was performed to confirm that computational thinking is the one to prepare the 4th industrial revolution. To teach computational thinking at university, educational design should be careful. This study verified the relationship between improvement of computational thinking ability and major of students with coding education. There was difference in effectiveness of the coding education depending on the major of students, it means students must be guaranteed to be educated by the differentiated coding education for different major. This study extracted factors of computational thinking through literature review. Thirteen research hypotheses were applied for the statistical analysis in R language. It was proved that expectation of class and improvement of abstraction ability and algorithmic thinking ability had mediation effect to the relationship between knowledge acquisition and problem-solving abilities. Based on this study, effectiveness of education can be improved, and it will lead to produce a lot of distinguished students who are ready for the 4th industrial revolution.

Educational Method of Computational Thinking Processes using Physical Teaching Devices (피지컬 교구를 활용한 컴퓨팅적 사고과정 교육방법)

  • More and more universities are enforcing SW education for non-major undergraduates. However, they are experiencing difficulties in educating non-major students to understand computational thinking processes. In this paper, we did not use the mathematical operation problem to solve this problem. And we proposed a basic problem-solving process teaching method based on computational thinking using simple physical devices. In the proposed educational method, we teach a LED circuit using an Arduino board as an example. And it explains the problem-solving process with computational thinking. Through this, students learn core computational thinking processes such as abstraction, problem decomposition, pattern recognition and algorithms. By applying the proposed methodology, students can gain the concept and necessity of computational thinking processes without difficulty in understanding and analyzing the given problem.
