  • Design restructuring improves software quality by reorganizing design elements and reduces maintenance cost. Object-oriented metrics can help to detect design flaws and find transformations to reorganize design elements. Basically, the transformations must preserve the behavior of an initial system. This paper describes a metric based restructuring technique preserving the behavior of object-oriented designs, founded on set theory, and gives its validity by applying the technique to applications written in Java. This paper also compares the technique with a technique using simulated annealing algorithm to show its effectiveness.

  • Purpose: This study examined factors influencing death anxiety in the middle aged. Method: This was a descriptive survey study. Data were collected from September to October, 2011, from 410 middle- aged adults. The questionnaires solicited information on death anxiety, health behavior, depression, life satisfaction, and family function. Analysis of data was performed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Average scores were 2.53 for death anxiety, 3.02 for health behavior, 4.44 for depression, 10.13 for life satisfaction, and 3.77 for family function. Statistically significant negative correlations were observed between health behavior and death anxiety, life satisfaction and death anxiety, and family function and death anxiety. However, from the statistical point of view the correlation between depression and death anxiety was a significantly positive. In addition, statistically significant positive correlations were observed between depression and death anxiety. Depression, life satisfaction, and family function were significant predictors of death anxiety. Conclusion: Multilateral nursing intervention is needed for maintenance of the health of middle aged adults.

  • High-speed railway bridges subject to effect of dynamic loads by interaction between vehicle load which run specially fast and behavior of bridges. Such dynamic load effects result in fluctuations and fatigues to each elements as well as whole conduct of bridges. and is influenced in life of bridges. For these reason. Analysis and estimation of data about dynamic behavior of bridges occupies important factor in that estimate the remaining life of bridges and select the maintenance. repair and retrofit. In this paper. Analysis for the dynamic behavior of bridges using displacement and acceleration data that is actuality measure data to the bridges of Seoul-Susan high speed railroad test section has been made.

  • In this paper, we propose a method of cooperative control based on immune system in distributed autonomous robotic system(DARS). Immune system is living body's self-protection and self-maintenance system. Thus these features can be applied to decision making of optimal swarm behavior in dynamically changing environment. For the purpose of applying immune system to DARS, a robot is regarded as a B lymphocyte(B cell), each environmental condition as an antigen, and a behavior strategy as an antibody respectively. The executing process of proposed method is as follows. When the environmental codintion changes, a robot select an appropriate beharior stategy. And its behavior stategy is stimulated and suppressed by other robot using communiation. Finally much stimulated strategy is adopted as a swarm behavior strategy. This control scheme is based on clonal selection and idotopic network hypothesis. And it is used for decision making of optimal swarm stragegy.

  • Design and maintenance of large span roof structures require an analysis of their static and dynamic behavior depending on the physical parameters defining the structures. Therefore, it is highly desirable to estimate the parameters from observations of the system. In this paper we study the parameter estimation problem for damped shallow arches. We discuss both symmetric and non-symmetric shapes and loads, and provide theoretical and numerical studies of the model behavior. Our study of the behavior of such structures shows that it is greatly affected by the existence of critical parameters. A small change in such parameters causes a significant change in the model behavior. The presence of the critical parameters makes it challenging to obtain good estimation. We overcome this difficulty by presenting the Parameter Estimation Algorithm that identifies the unknown parameters sequentially. It is shown numerically that the algorithm achieves a successful parameter estimation for models defined by arbitrary parameters, including the critical ones.

  • Composite deck plate using a pre-assembled re-bar truss for slab with corrugated zinc galvanized sheet iron at manufactory, is given the improvement on design, manufacture, and performance for construction work of cast-in-place reinforced concrete slab by enabling to cast concrete directly without the form work. There are two methods in analyzing composite deck : Simplified 2D analysis and 3D analysis. Although simplified 2D analysis is being used up to date, the use of 3D analysis, allowing for the vierendeel behavior of composite deck by real configuration correlating to bar reducing, is demanded. To compare the simplified 2D analysis applied to allowable stress design with 3D analysis applied to limit state design, 8 specimen are manufactured. Main variables include the depth of slab, the length of span, the diameter of bottom bar and lattice bar, and the presence of corrugated zinc galvanized sheet iron. The comparison from the experimental result and analytical result indicates that applying of simplified 2D analysis is possible for the use of D10 with bottom bar. However, it is more reasonable to apply 3D analysis which allows to indicate vierendeel behavior considered the real configuration.

  • The pile-cap connection part which transfers foundation loads through pile body is critical element regarding flexural and shear force because the change of area, stress, and stiffness occurs in the this region suddenly. The purpose of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of pile-cap connection dependent on fabrication methods using conventional PHC pile and composite PHC pile. A series of test under cyclic lateral load was performed and the connection behavior was discussed. From the test results, it was found that the initial rotational stiffness of pile-cap connection was affected by the length of pile-head inserted in footing and the location of longitudinal reinforcing bars. The types of pile and location of longitudinal reinforcing bars governed the behavior of pile-cap connection regarding load-carrying capacity, ductility, and energy dissipation.

  • Recently, many studies have been conducted on the structural behavior of HPFRCC, but most of the studies focused on the flexural behavior while studies on the shear behavior are limited. In this study, a model has been developed to reasonably predict the shear strength of a HPFRCC beam without stirrups. To develop the model, a HPFRCC beam was simply idealized with upper & lower chords resisting bending moment and a web shear element resisting shear forces. Then, taking into the account of the tensile behavior of HPFRCC, the main diagonal compressive strut angle and shear stress of the web shear element were evaluated on shear failure. Then, the shear strength of the HPFRCC beam could be evaluated. For the verification of the proposed model, the predictions by the proposed model were compared with the test results of 48 HPFRCC beams exhibiting shear failure. The results showed that the proposed model reasonably predicted the actual shear strength with an average of 1.045 and CoV of 0.125. This study are expected to be useful for related researches and design of members or structures to which HPFRCC is applied.

  • In this study, experimental research was carried out to evaluate steel reinforced ECC (Engineered Cementitious Composites) column, which exhibits excellent crack control property and highly ductile behavior. Ordinary portland cement and high volume fly ash were used as binding materials in the mixture proportions for the purpose of achieving a high level of multiple cracking property with the tightly controlled crack width. To compare with the cyclic behavior of steel reinforced ECC column specimen, a conventional reinforced concrete column was prepared and tested under reversed cyclic loading condition. Based on the cyclic load test, ECC column exhibited higher cyclic behavior, compared to the conventional RC column, in terms of load carrying capacity and energy dissipation capacity.
