We have prepared $MnFe_2O_4$ nanoparticles with polyol method. The crystallographic and magnetic properties were measured by using X-ray diffraction(XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM) and $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy. The high resolution transmission electron microscope(HRTEM) shows uniform nanoparticle-sizes with $6{\sim}8$ nm. The crystal structure is found to be single-phase cubic spinel with space group of Fd3m. The lattice constant of $MnFe_2O_4$ nanparticles is determined to be $8.418{\pm}0.001{\AA}$. $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectrum of $MnFe_2O_4$ nanparticles at room temperature(RT) shows a superparamagnetic behavior. In VSM analysis, the diagnosis of the superparamagnetic behavior is also shown in hysteresis loop at RT. $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectrum at 4.2K shows that the well developed two sextets are with different hyperfine field $H_{hfA}=498$(A-site) and $H_{hfB}=521$(B-site) kOe.

In the summers of 1997 and 1998 and in February of 2000 we made 570 measurements of the ambient geomagnetic field 120 cm above the pavement surface of State Route 130, south of Pahoa, the island of Hawaii using a three-component fluxgate magnetometer. We measured at every 15.2 m (50 feet) interval covering a distance of 6, 310 m (20, 704 ft) where both historic and pre-historic highly magnetic basalt flows underlie. We also collected 197 core samples from eight road cuts, 489 specimens of which were subject to AF demagnetizations at 5 - 10 mT level up to a maximum field of 60 mT. We observed significant inclination anomalies ranging from a minimum of $31^{\circ}$ to a maximum $40^{\circ}$ where a uniform inclination value of $36.7^{\circ}$ (International Geomagnetic Reference Field, IGRF) was expected. Since the mean of the observed inclinations is approximately $35^{\circ}$ we assume that the study area is slightly affected by the magnetic terrain effect to a systematically shallower inclinations for being located in the regionally sloping surface of the southern side of the island (Baag, et al., 1995). We observed inclination anomalies showing wider (spacial) wavelength (160 - 600 m) and higher amplitudes in the historic lava flows area than in the northern pre-historic flows. Our observations imply that preexisting inclination anomalies such as those that we observed would have been interpreted as paleosecular variation (PSV). These inclination anomalies can best be attributed to concealed underground highly magnetic dikes, channel type lava flows, on-and-off hydrothermal activities through fissure-like openings, etc. Both the within- and between-site dispersions of natural remanent magnetization (NRM) are largest (up to ${\pm}7^{\circ}$) above the flows of 1955, while the area of pre-historic flows in the northern part of the study area exhibit the smallest dispersion. Nevertheless, mean inclinations of each historic flow of 1955 and 1790 are almost identical to that of the corresponding present field, whereas mean of NRM (after AF demagnetization) inclinations for each of the four pre-historic lava flow units is twelve to thirteen degrees lower than the present field inclination. We observed three cases of very large inclination variations from within a single flow, the best fitting curves of which are linear, second and third order polynomials each from within a single flow, whereas no present field variations are observed. This phenomena can be attributed to the notion that local magnetic anomalies on the surface of an active volcano are not permanent, but are transient. Therefore we believe that local magnetic anomalies of an active volcano may be constantly modified due to on going subsurface injections and circulations of hot material and also due to wide spacial and temporal distribution of highly magnetic basaltic flows that will constantly modify the topography which will in turn modify the local ambient geomagnetic field (Baag, et al., 1995). Our observations bring into question the general reliability of PSV data inferred from volcanic rocks, because on-going various geologic and geophysical activities associated with active volcano would continuously deflect and modify the ambient geomagnetic field.
Crystallographic and magnetic properties of the Co and Ti-doped BaF $e_{12-2x}$$Co_{x}$$Ti_{x}$$O_{19}$(0.0$\leq$x$\leq$1.0) system have been investigated by means of x-ray diffractometry, Mossbauer spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer. The structure of the system was found to be the magnetoplumbite structure, and the lattice parameter a is nearly constant and c increase as the doped Co-Ti contents increasing. We found that the saturation magnetization nearly unchanged but the coercivity rapidly decreased between x = 0.0 and x = 0.2 with increasing x in BaF $e_{12-2x}$$Co_{x}$$Ti_{x}$$O_{19}$. From the Mossbauer spectra analysis Co-Ti ions prefer 12k, 4 $f_{vi}$ and 2b sites.tes.
In order to study the effect of additives $SiO_{2}$ on the magnetic properties of hexaferrite sheet magnet, we used X-ray diffractometer, Mossbauer spectrometer, and VSM magnetometer. We have prepared $Ba_{0.25}Sr_{0.75}Fe_{12}O_{19}$ green sheets by the Dr. Blade method. Most of samples have a magnetoplurnbite crystal structure of typical M-type hexaferrite. The lattice parameters are found not to be affected by the addition of $SiO_{2}$. ${\alpha}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ phase develops above $SiO_{2}$ 2.0 wt.%. Isomer shifts indicate that the valence of Fe ions is trivalent. Curie temperatures decrease slightly with increasing $SiO_{2}$ concentrations. It means that the $Si^{4+}$ subsitution for 12k-site $Fe^{3+}$ has an effect on the superexchange interactions Fe-O-Fe, which change the distance and the angle between cations and anions. It was suggested that ${\alpha}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ phase results from the excessive Fe produced by subsituting $Si^{4+}$ for $Fe^{3+}$. Based upon the results of $Ba_{0.25}Sr_{0.75}Fe_{12}O_{19}$ added with $SiO_{2}$, we concluded that $H_{c}$, $M_{s}$ and $M_{r}$ depend more strongly on the microstructure chracteristics than on the cation substitution.

We report on the annealing effect and ferromagnetic characteristics of Zn$_{0.7}$Mn$_{0.3}$O film prepared by sol-gel method on the silicon (100) substrate using field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometry. Magnetic measurements show thatZn$_{0.7}$Mn$_{0.3}$O films exhibit ferromagnetism at 5 K revealing the coercive field of ∼110 Oe for as grown sample and 360, 1035 Oe for samples annealed at 700, 800 $^{\circ}C$, respectively. Our experimental evidence suggests that ferromagnetic precipitates of a manganese oxide may be responsible for the observed ferromagnetic behaviors of the film.he film.
$Buffer/[NiFe/Cu/CoFe(Co)/Cu]_N$ spin valve multilayers prepared by dc magnetron sputtering on a corning glass substrate using NiFe and CoFe(Co) posses different coercivities. Dependence of magnetoresistance on the type and thickness of buffer layer, thickness of Cu, NiFe, stacking number of multilayer, substrate temperature and annealing temperature in the form $[NiFe/Cu/CoFe(Co)/Cu]_N$ spin-valve multilayers were investigated. To evaluate effect of magnetoresistance for this samples, X-ray diffraction analysis, vibrating sample magnetometer analysis, and magnetoresistance measurement (4-probe method) were performed the maximum magnetoresistance ratio and coercivity were 7.5 % and 140 Oe, respectively for $Cr-50{\AA}/[NiFe-20{\AA}/Cu-{\AA}/Co-20{\AA}/Cu-50{\AA}]_10$ at substrate temperature of 9$0^{\circ}C$. Magnetoresistance slope maintained 0.25%/Oe until 15$0^{\circ}C$ of annealing temperature, and then decreased to 0.03%/Oe at 20$0^{\circ}C$. It was confirmed that the main factor of thermal stability was deteriorating of soft magnetic properties in the NiFe layer.
This paper presents the explorations of hydrothermal vents located in the Marina Arc and Back Arc Basin using the deep-sea ROV Hemire. These explorations were conducted by KRISO and KIOST to demonstrate the capability of Hemire in various applications for deep-sea scientific research. The missions included the following: (1) to search the reported vents, (2) conduct visual inspections, (3) deploy/recover a sediment trap and bait traps, (4) sample sediment/water/rock, (5) measure the magnetic field at the vent site, and (6) acquire a detailed map using multi-beam sonar near the bottom. We installed three HD cameras for precise visual inspection, a high-temperature thermometer, a three-component magnetometer, and a multi-beam sonar to acquire details of the bottom contour or identify vents in the survey area. The explorations were performed in an expedition from March 23 to April 5, 2016, and the missions were successfully completed. This paper discusses the operational process, navigation, and control of Hemire, as well as the exploration results.
Colossal magnetoresistance $La_{0.67}Ca_{0.33}Mn_{0.99}^{57}Fe_{0.01}O_3$ material has been produced by a metal-salt routed sol-gel process method. Magnetic properties of $La_{0.67}Ca_{0.33}Mn_{0.99}^{57}Fe_{0.01}O_3$ have been studied with x-ray diffraction, Rutherford back-scattering spectroscopy(RBS), vibrating sample magnetometer, and Mossbauer spectroscopy. Crystalline $La_{0.67}Ca_{0.33}Mn_{0.99}^{57}Fe_{0.01}O_3$ was perovskite cubic structure with a lattice parameter $a_0=3.868$\AA$$. And there was no appreciable change in the value of the lattice parameter when a small amount (x=0.01) of iron was added. However, Mossbauer and VSM data indicate the Curie temperature of the $La_{0.67}Ca_{0.33}Mn_{0.99}^{57}Fe_{0.01}O_3$ decreased from 282 to 270 k and also the saturation magnetization from 84 to 81 emu/g at 77 K. Mossbauer spectra of $La_{0.67}Ca_{0.33}Mn_{0.99}^{57}Fe_{0.01}O_3$ have been taken at various temperatures ranging form 4.2 K to room temperature. Analysis of $^{57}Fe$ Mossbauer data in terms of the local configurations of Mn atoms has permitted the influence of the magnetic hyperfine interactions to be monitored. The isomer shifts show that the charge state of all Fe ions are ferric. The magnetoresistance of $La_{0.67}Ca_{0.33}Mn_{0.99}^{57}Fe_{0.01}O_3$ was about 33 % at semiconductor-metal transition temperature $T_{SC-M}=250K$.
$Ni_{0.65}Zn_{0.35}Cu_{0.3}Fe_{1.7}O_4$ has been studied with x-ray diffraction, Mossbauer spectroscopy, and vibrating sample magnetometer. The crystal structure is found to be a cubic spinel with the lattice constant $a_0=8.403{\AA}$. Mossbauer spectra of have been taken at various temperatures ranging from 12 K to 665 K. as the temperature increases toward $T_N$ a systematic line broadening effect in the Mossbauer spectrum is observed and interpreted to originate from different temperature dependencies of the magenetic hyperfine fields at various iron sites. Also, by using binomial distribution equation we obtained the hyperfine fields of tetrahedral[A] and octahedral sites[B], $H_{hf}(A)=470\;kOe,\; H_{hf}(B0)=495 \;kOe,\; H_{hf}(B1)=485\;kOe, \;H_{hf}(B2)=453\;kOe,\; H_{hf}(B3)=424\;kOe,\; H_{hf}(B4)=390\;kOe,\; H_{hf}(Bavr)=451\;kOe$ respectively at room temperature. The isomer shift indicates that the iron ions are ferric at tetrahedral[A] and octahedral sites[B], respectively. The Neel temperature is determined to be $T_N=665\;K$. The results of the VSM data gave the magnetic moment and coercivity values of $M_S=66\; emu/g\;and\;H_C=36\;Oe$.
$Y_{3-x}La_xFe_5O_{12}$ (x=0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0) powders and thin films were fabricated by a sol-gel method and their magnetic properties and crystal structure were investigated by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and Mossbauer spectroscopy. XRD and Mossbauer spectroscopy measurements show that garnet powders annealed at 900 $^{\circ}C$ for 8 hours were single-phased and that thin films fired at 800 $^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours were crystallized without any preferred direction. X-ray diffraction patterns of $Y_{3-x}La_xFe_5O_{12}$ powders annealed at 1000 $^{\circ}C$ had only peaks of the garnet structure in case of x$\leq$0.75 but those of $Y_2LaFe_5O_{12}$ powders consisted of peaks from garnets and $LaFeO_3$. Mossbauer sepectra of garnet powders grown by the sol-gel method had a similar shape of those of powders grown by a conventional ceramic method. Grain sizes of garnet powders were 200~300 nm and the averaged surface roughness was 3.17 nm. Results of VSM measurements show the powders and thin films had soft magnetic properties and that the garnet powders had the largest saturation magnetization, 30 emu/g, and the lowest coercivity, 52 Oe.
