The magnetostatic interaction between the two magnetic nanowires was studied by using the longitudinal magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE). For this purpose two magnetic nanowires having different widths (400 nm, 800 nm) were fabricated on an Si substrate with electron beam lithography and the lift-off method. Magnetic hysteresis loops measured by MOKE showed double switching behavior, corresponding to the separated switching fields of each wire. The switching field of the narrow wire was greatly affected by the separation between the two wires. Based on how the switching field changes with decreasing separation, it is concluded that the magnetostatic field of the 800-nm wire strongly affects the switching of the 400-nm wire when the separation is less than $0.5{\mu}m$.

The electric field-induced modifications of magnetic anisotropy in CoFeB/MgO systems are studied using X-ray resonant magnetic scattering and magneto-optical Kerr effect. Voltage dependent changes of the magnetic anisotropy of -12.7 fJ/Vm and -8.32 fJ/Vm are observed for Ta/CoFeB/MgO and Hf/CoFeB/MgO systems, respectively. This implies that the interfacial perpendicular magnetic anisotropy is reduced (enhanced) when electron density is increased (decreased). X-ray resonant magnetic scattering measurements reveal that the small in-plane magnetic component of the remanent state of CoFeB/MgO systems with weak magnetic anisotropy changes depending on the applied voltage leading to modification of the magnetic anisotropy at the CoFeB/MgO interface.

Large-area micropatterned array of Co/Ni bilayer anti-dots was fabricated using photolithography and wet etching process. The surface morphology as well as the surface topography was checked by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy, whereas the magnetic properties were studied by magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) and magnetic force microscopy (MFM). Systematic studies of the magnetic-reversal mechanism, the in-plane anisotropy and the switching field properties were carried out. To get a comprehensive knowledge about the domain configuration, we also employed OOMMF simulations. It was found from the MOKE measurements that a combined effect of configurational and the magneto-crystalline anisotropy simultaneously works in such micropatterned bilayer structures. In addition, the inclusion of holes in the uniform magnetic film drastically affected the switching field. The MFM images show well-defined domain structures which are periodic in nature. The micromagnetic simulations indicate that the magnetization reversal of such a structure proceeds by formation and annihilation of domain walls, which were equally manifested by the field-dependent MFM images. The observed changes in the magnetic properties are strongly related to both the patterning that hinders the domain-wall motion and to the magneto-anisotropic bilayered structure.
The effects of differential partial pressures of oxygen during sputtering on the magnetic and recording characteristics of magneto-optical disks were investigated. Different flows of oxygen were deliberately introduced into the sputtering chamber to have a variety of partial pressures of oxygen during sputtering. A residual gas analyzer was employed to monitor the oxygen peak before, during, and after sputtering and to estimate the reacted oxygen amount. Most of the oxygen introduced into the chamaber was reacted during sputtering. As the partial pressure of oxygen increased, the oxygen content of the TbFeCoCr film increased also. The oxygen appeared to be bound as Tb-O, effectively decreasing the magnetically active Tb content of the film The coercivity decreased but the squareness of the Kerr hysteresis loops was still excellent. The perpendicular anisotropy was not significantly affected by oxygen amount. The carrier-to-noise ratio, includi!1g the write power sensitivity and bias field sensitivity did not change too much with oxygen content in the film The disks sputtered with oxygen showed better bias field sensitivity with lower write power threshold than the disk sputtered without oxygen, due to high demagnetization during domain formation. No significant degradation of coercivity for the disk sputtered oxygen was observed during an accelerated aging test.

We have studied magnetic properties of Co/Pt multilayered films which have attracted great interest as high-density magneto-optical (MO) recording media due to their good MO properties. For this study, [Pt(45 )/Co(35 )]$\times$8 films were deposited with a Pt buffer layer of 60 on Si(100) substrate by alternating electron-beam evaporation in a high vacuum and were ion beam mixed by using 80keV Ar+ at 25$0^{\circ}C$. Especially, an external magnetic field was added to help changing magnetic property during ion beam mixing (IBM). The intermixing of Co and Pt layers after IBM was confirmed with Rutherford Backscattering Spectroscopy (RBS) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The MO property of the film was measured with magneto-optical Kerr spectrometer and the change of magnetic easy axis in the film plane was observed from Ker loop data. This anomalous result might be correlated with the change of atomic structure due to the intermixing effect.

Ti/Ni multilayered films (MLF) are ideal for neutron optics particularly in neutron guides and focusing devices. This system also possesses the tendency of amorphization through a solid-state reaction (SSR). This behaviors are closely related to the electronic structures and both magneto-optical (MO) and optical properties of metals depend strongly on their electron energy structures. Mutual inter-diffusion of the Tin and Ni atoms in the MLF caused by a low temperature annealing should decrease the thickness of pure Ni, as well as change the chemical and atomic order in the reactive zone. The application of the MO spectroscopy to the study of SSR in the MLF allows us to obtain an additional information on the changes in the atomic and chemical orders in the interface region. The optical one has no restriction on the magnetic state of the constituent sublayers. Therefore, the changes in magnetic, MO and optical properties of the Ti/Ni MLF due to SSR can be expected. To the best of our knowledge, the MO and optical spectroscopies were not used for this purpose. SSR has been studied in the series of the Ti/Ni MLFs with bilayer periods of 0.65-22.2nm and constant ratio of the Ti to Ni sublayers thickness by using MO and optical spectroscopies as well as an x-ray diffraction. The experimental MO and optical spectra are compared with the computer-simulated spectra, assuming various interface models. The relative changes in the x-ray diffraction spectra and MO properties of the Ti/Ni MLF caused by annealing are bigger for the multilayers with "thick" sublayers, or the SSR with the formation of amorphous alloy takes place mainly in the Ti/Ni multilayers with "thick" sublayers, while in the nominal threshold thickness of the Ni-sublayer for the observation of the equatorial Kerr effect in the as-deposited and annealed Ti/Ni MLFs of about 3.0 and 4.5nm thick is explained by the formation of amorphous alloy during the deposition or the formation of the nonmagnetic alloyed regions between pure components as a result of the SSR. For the case of Ti/Ni MLF the MO approach is more sensitive for the determination of the thickness of the reacted zone, while x-ray diffraction is more useful for structural analyses.structural analyses.
After preparing carbon-doped FePt films by dc magnetron sputtering, we observed ultrafast demagnetization and its recovery by means of a time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect technique. We confirm that the degree of $L1_0$ ordering is decreased and coercivity is changed, as the carbon concentration increases. All samples are demagnetized within ~5 ps after the femtosecond laser pulse heated the sample. Interestingly, ultrafast relaxation time, which indicates fast magnetization recovery, increases as the carbon concentration increases due to the low spin-orbit coupling of carbon.

We report on the basis of experiments that magnetic domain structures exhibit a transition between single and dendrite domains with respect to the width of ferromagnetic nanowires. This transition is directly observed in CoFe/Pt multilayered nanowires having a width in the range of 580 nm to 4.2 ${\mu}m$ with a magnetic force microscope. Nanowires wider than 1.5 ${\mu}m$ show typical dendrite domain patterns, whereas the nanowires narrower than 690 nm exhibit single domain patterns. The transition occurs gradually between these widths, which are similar to the typical widths of the dendrite domains. Such a transition affects the strength of the domain wall propagation field; this finding was made by using a time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect microscope, and shows that the domain wall dynamics also exhibit a transition in accordance with the domain configuration.

Magnetization behavior of ultra thin $Fe_xCo_{1-x}$ alloy (where x varies from 0 to 100) has been investigated as functions of composition on Cr (100) substrate by using in situ surface magneto optical Kerr effect (SMOKE). It's always show in plane uniaxial magnetic anisotropy at room temperature (RT) & Low temperature (LT). It is observed that composition dependent coercive force maximum at about 30 at % Co and 70 at % Co atomic ratio and minimum near equiatomic site. The relative magnetic moments as composition variation also show magnetization collapse near equiatomic site. The magnetization behaviors of Fe-Co alloy on Cr (100) due to composition varies are supported the order-disordering as well as structural stability bcc (ferromagnetic)/fcc (anti-ferromagnetic) phase stability magnetism.

Local M-H loops have been measured on the free layer of a tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR) junction using the magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) system, with an optical beam size of about 2 $\mu$m diameter. Tunnel junctions were deposited using the DC magnetron sputtering method in a chamber with a base pressure of 3$\times$10$^{-9}$ Torr. The relatively irregular variations of coercive force H$_c$(∼17.5 Oe) and unidirectional anisotropy field H$_{ua}$(∼7.5 Oe) in the as-deposited sample are revealed. After $200{^{\circ}C}$ annealing, He decreases to 15 Oe but H$_{ua}$ increases to 20 Oe with smooth local variations. Two-dimensional plots of H$_c$ and H$_{ua}$ show the symmetric saddle shapes with their axes aligned with the pinned layer, irrespective of the annealing field angle. This is thought to be caused by geometric effects during deposition, together with a minor annealing effect. In addition, the variation of root mean square (RMS) surface roughness reveals it to be symmetric with respect to the center of the pinned-layer axis, with the roughness of 2.5 $\AA$ near the edge and 5.8 $\AA$ at the junction center. Comparison of surface roughness with the variation of H$_{ua}$ suggests that the H$_{ua}$ variation of the free layer is well described by dipole interactions related to surface roughness. As a whole, the reversal magnetization is not uniform over the entire junction area and the macroscopic properties are governed by the average sum of local distributions.
