This paper proposes a sensing system of the Halbach array permanent magnet spherical motor(PMSM). The rotor position can be obtained by solving three rotation angles, which revolves around 3 reference axes of the stator. With the development of 3-D hall sensor, the position identification problem of the Halbach array PMSM based on rotor magnetic field is studied in this paper. A nonlinear and serious coupling relationship between the rotation angles and the measured magnetic flux density is established on the basis of the rotation transformation theory and the magnetic field model. In order to get rid of the influence on position detection caused by the harmonics of rotor magnetic field and the stator coil magnetic field, a sensor location combination scheme is proposed. In order to solve the nonlinear equation fast and accurately, a new position solution algorithm which combines the merits of gradient projection and particle swarm optimization(PSO) is presented. Then the rotation angles are obtained and the rotor position is identified. The validity of the sensing system is verified through the simulation.
Compressed sensing can be used to reduce scan time or to enhance spatial resolution in MRI. It is now recognized that compressed sensing works well in reconstructing magnitude images if the sampling mask and the sparsifying transform are well chosen. Phase images also play important roles in MRI particularly in chemical shift imaging and magnetic resonance electrical impedance tomography (MREIT). We reconstruct MRI phase images using the compressed sensing technique. Through computer simulation and real MRI experiments, we reconstructed phase images using the compressed sensing technique and we compared them with the ones reconstructed by conventional Fourier reconstruction technique. As compared to conventional Fourier reconstruction with the same number of phase encoding steps, compressed sensing shows better performance in terms of mean squared phase error and edge preservation. We expect compressed sensing can be used to reduce the scan time or to enhance spatial resolution of MREIT.

This paper deals with the displacement estimation of magnetically suspended simple 1 DOF(degree of freedom) system without the displacement sensor. Inherently electro-magnet for control has two natural feedback loops. One is the transfer function which represents the dependance of the amount of the magnetic flux on the gap displace-ments. The other is the transfer function expressing the properties that the back electromotive force is derived from the time derivative of the magnetic flux. Through these two feedback loops, information about the gap length can be represented by the magnetic flux and the coil current. This means that the gap length can be detected from these two states variables of the electromagnet without a displacements sensor(self-sensing). The displacement can be estimated with the magnetic flux subtracted by the coil current. In this paper we use a balance beam in order to deal with the displacement sensorless estimation of the magnetic bearing system. For the stable estimation of the gap displacements by using the method of self-sensing simple PD controller is used. We first show the mathematical model of the balance beam, and then we show the effectiveness of the current and flux feedback for making stable estimation of the gap displacements for the balance beam. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the current and flux feedback for good estimation of the displacement without using displacement sensor.
A laboratory sensor model was designed, constructed, and tested based on a newly proposed working principle of magnetic field detection. The principle of sensing employed a time-coded method in correlation with exploiting the advantageous features of the GMI effect. The sensor demonstrated a sensitivity of $10\;{\mu}s/{\mu}T$ in the field range of ${\pm}100\;{\mu}T$. The sensing element in the form of an amorphous thin wire, $100\;{\mu}m$ in diameter ${\times}50\;mm$ long, was fit into a small field modulation coil of 60 mm length. At a magnetic field modulation in the range of hundreds of Hz, the change in time interval of two adjacent GMI voltage peaks was linearly related to the external magnetic field to be measured. This mechanism improved the sensor linearity of the GMI sensor to better than 0.2% in the measuring range of ${\pm}100\;{\mu}T$.

This paper presents concurrent design methods of surface permanent magnet synchronous machines for saliency-tracking self-sensing position estimation. Magnetic saliency for the self-sensing is created by stator pole saturation due to the rotor zigzag leakage flux. The power conversion properties such as saliency ratio, torque ripple, and efficiency vary according to motor design. The property change due to design modification is analysed by using finite element analysis, and with the appropriate design modification, proper saliency is created while preserving their power conversion capabilities.
We have developed a part of hydraulic stroke sensing cylinder using magnetic sensor that can detect each position under severe construction fields. In this paper, for evaluating the developed cylinder under various environment condition, thermal control systems and two hydraulic systems to be coupled consist of. The former is composed of an heater case, temperature sensor, and interface circuits which include SCR(silicon controlled rectifier) for the control of the voltage's phase. The latter is composed of an hydraulic cylinder for position control with solenoid valve (ON/OFF motion) and a load cylinder with proportional reducing valve. To obtain the various performance evaluation, it is carried out under high temperature condition in thermal system controlled by using Ziegler-Nichols PID tuning method and artificial disturbances such as impulse or constant force. The results show that the developed cylinder has good performance under the various environment condition.

This paper presents a micro fluxgate magnetic sensor in printed circuit board (PCB). The fluxgate sensor consists of five PCB stack layers including one layer magnetic core and four layers of excitation and pick-up coils. The center layer as a magnetic core is made of a micro patterned amorphous magnetic ribbon with extremely high DC permeability of ∼100,000 and the core has a rectangular-ring shape. The amorphous magnetic core is easily saturated due to the low coercive field and closed magnetic path for the excitation field. Four outer layers as an excitation and pick-up coils have a planar solenoid structure. The chip size of the fabricated sensing element is 7.3${\times}$5.7m㎡. Excellent linear response over the range of -100${\mu}$T to +100${\mu}$T is obtained with 540V/T sensitivity at excitation square wave of 3V$\_$P-P/ and 360kHz. The very low power consumption of ∼8mW was measured. This magnetic sensing element which measures the lower fields than 50${\mu}$T, is very useful for various applications such as: portable navigation systems, military research, medical research, and space research.
Computer simulation of sensing current effects on the magnetic and magnetoresistance properties of a crossed spin-valve head is carried out. The spin-valve head has the following layer structure: Ta (8.0 nm)/NiMn (25 nm)/NiFe (2.5 nm)/Cu (3.0 nm)/NiFe (5.5 nm)/Ta (3.0 nm), and it is 1500 nm long and 600 nm wide. Even with a high pinning field of 300 Oe and a high hard-biased field of 50 Oe, the ideal crossed spin-valve structure, which is essential to the symmetry of the output signal and hence high density recording, is not realized mainly due to large interlayer magnetostatic interactions. This problem is solved by applying a suitable magnitude of sensing currents along the length direction generating magnetic fields in the width direction. The ideal spin-valve head is expected to show good symmetry of the output signal. This has not been shown explicitly in the present simulation, however, The reason for this is possibly related to the simple assumption used in this calculation that each magnetic layer consists of a single domain.
