A vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) with permanent magnet actuator (PMA) has been studied in this study. Electromagnetic field analysis and dynamic simulations have been carried out for optimal design of VCB by using commercial software Maxwell and ADAMS. This simulation model can be an effective method for the VCB, which has non-linear output force of PMA, friction, and impact for operations. An experiment has been conducted to evaluate correctness of the simulated model. By using this evaluated model, the displacement and velocity characteristics of the VCB have been simulated with following conditions : (1) The different output forces of PMA have been applied, (2) The friction conditions in follow lever shaft and moving part have been changed, (3) The mass conditions of moving part have been changed. The simulated results shows that the velocity characteristics are mainly determined by the output force of PMA. The effects due to the changes of friction conditions against the dynamic characteristics was small, and the mass conditions of the moving parts affect the velocity and a bouncing phenomenon of VCB. From these results, the optimal design conditions for the VCB have been derived.

The design of the blanket and shield play a key role in determining the size of a reactor since it has an impact on the various reactor components. The blanket should produce enough tritium for tritium self-sufficiency and the shield should provide sufficient protection for the superconducting TF coil. Neutronic optimization of the blanket and the shield is necessary, and we coupled the system analysis with a neutronic calculation to account for the interrelation of the blanket and shield with the plasma performance of a reactor system in a self-consistent manner. By using the coupled system analysis code, the operational space for a low aspect ratio (LAR) tokamak reactor with a superconducting toroidal field (TF) coil is investigated with an spect ratio in the range of 1.5 - 2.5. The minimum major radius which satisfies all the physics and engineering requirements increases with the magnetic field at the magnetic axis. A required inboard shield thickness is mainly determined by the requirement on the protection of the TF coil against radiation damage. It is shown that to have a fusion power bigger than 3,000 MW in the LAR tokamak with a superconducting TF coil, a major radius bigger than 4.0 m is required.
During their respective missions, the spacecraft Voyager and Cassini measured several Saturn magnetosphere parameters at different radial distances. As a result of information gathered throughout the journey, Voyager 1 discovered hot and cold electron distribution components, number density, and energy in the 6-18 Rs range. Observations made by Voyager of intensity fluctuations in the 20-30 keV range show electrons are situated in the resonance spectrum's high energy tail. Plasma waves in the magnetosphere can be used to locate Saturn's inner magnetosphere's plasma clusters, which are controlled by Saturn's spin. Electromagnetic electron cyclotron (EMEC) wave ring distribution function has been investigated. Kinetic and linear approaches have been used to study electromagnetic cyclotron (EMEC) wave propagation. EMEC waves' stability can be assessed by analyzing the dispersion relation's effect on the ring distribution function. The primary goal of this study is to determine the impact of the magnetosphere parameters which is observed by Cassini. The magnetosphere of Saturn has also been observed. When the plasma parameters are increased as the distribution index, the growth/damping rate increases until the magnetic field model affects the magnetic field at equator, as can be seen in the graphs. We discuss the outputs of our model in the context of measurements made in situ by the Cassini spacecraft.
Multi-injection scheme is being applied to GDI combustion to reduce PM and PN emission to meet the EU7 regulation. However, very short injection duration encounters the ballistic injection region, which injection quantity does not increase linearly with injection duration when applying multi-injection. In this study, numerical studies were conducted to reveal the cause of ballistic injection and the effect of design parameters on ballistic region using 1-D simulation, AMESim. Injection rate and injection quantity were compared with experiment to validate the established model, which showed the accuracy with 10% error. The model revealed that the tendency of ballistic region coincides with the needle motion behavior, which means that parameters at the upper part of needle such as electro-magnetic force, needle spring force and needle friction force have dominant effect on ballistic injection. To figure out the effect of electro-magnetic and needle friction force on ballistic, those parameters were varied to plus and minus 10% with model. The result showed that those parameters clearly changed the ballistic region characteristics, however, the impact became insignificant for outside of ballistic region, which means that the ballistic injection is mainly influenced by initial motion of injector needle.

The evaluation of no-insulation (NI) high-temperature superconducting (HTS) typically uses the lumped equivalent circuit (LEC) model. Constant parameters in the NI HTS LEC model accurately predict voltage and central magnetic field at currents below the critical current. However, it is difficult to find constant circuit parameters that simultaneously satisfy the measured voltage and magnetic field under overcurrent conditions. Recent research highlights changes in contact resistance during transient conditions, which may impact power loss estimation in NI HTS coils. Therefore, we confirm the influence of contact resistance changes on loss calculation in the transient state for NI HTS coil. To achieve this, we introduce a measurement data analysis method based on the LEC model and compare it with the LEC model using constant circuit parameters.

Objective: The intra-parotid facial nerve (FN) can be visualized using three-dimensional double-echo steady-state water-excitation sequence magnetic resonance imaging (3D-DESS-WE-MRI). However, the clinical impact of FN imaging using 3D-DESS-WE-MRI before parotidectomy has not yet been explored. We compared the clinical outcomes of parotidectomy in patients with and without preoperative 3D-DESS-WE-MRI. Materials and Methods: This prospective, non-randomized, single-institution study included 296 adult patients who underwent parotidectomy for parotid tumors, excluding superficial and mobile tumors. Preoperative evaluation with 3D-DESS-WE-MRI was performed in 122 patients, and not performed in 174 patients. FN visibility and tumor location relative to FN on 3D-DESS-WE-MRI were evaluated in 120 patients. Rates of FN palsy (FNP) and operation times were compared between patients with and without 3D-DESS-WE-MRI; propensity score matching (PSM) and inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) were used to adjust for surgical and tumor factors. Results: The main trunk, temporofacial branch, and cervicofacial branch of the intra-parotid FN were identified using 3D-DESS-WE-MRI in approximately 97.5% (117/120), 44.2% (53/120), and 25.0% (30/120) of cases, respectively. The tumor location relative to FN, as assessed on magnetic resonance imaging, concurred with surgical findings in 90.8% (109/120) of cases. Rates of temporary and permanent FNP did not vary between patients with and without 3D-DESS-WE-MRI according to PSM (odds ratio, 2.29 [95% confidence interval {CI} 0.64-8.25] and 2.02 [95% CI: 0.32-12.90], respectively) and IPTW (odds ratio, 1.76 [95% CI: 0.19-16.75] and 1.94 [95% CI: 0.20-18.49], respectively). Conversely, operation time for surgical identification of FN was significantly shorter with 3D-DESS-WE-MRI (median, 25 vs. 35 min for PSM and 25 vs. 30 min for IPTW, P < 0.001). Conclusion: Preoperative FN imaging with 3D-DESS-WE-MRI facilitated anatomical identification of FN and its relationship to the tumor during parotidectomy. This modality reduced operation time for FN identification, but did not significantly affect postoperative FNP rates.

Purpose: To evaluate differences in staging accuracy of prostate cancer according to the extent of hemorrhage on multiparametric MRI performed after biopsy. Materials and Methods: We enrolled 71 consecutive patients with biopsy-proven prostate cancer. Patients underwent MRI followed by a prostatectomy at our institution in 2014. Two radiologists reviewed the MRI to determine the tumor stage. Correlation between biopsy-MRI interval and extent of hemorrhage was evaluated. Regression analyses were used to determine factors associated with accuracy of tumor staging. Results: The mean interval between biopsy and MRI was $17.4{\pm}10.2days$ (range, 0-73 days). The interval between prostate biopsy and MRI and the extent of hemorrhage were not significantly correlated (P = 0.880). There was no significant difference in the accuracy rate of staging between the small and large hemorrhage groups. Conclusion: Biopsy-induced hemorrhage in the prostate gland is not sufficiently absorbed over time. The extent of hemorrhage and the short interval between biopsy and MRI may not impair tumor detection or staging on multiparametric MRI.
Objective : Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) has proven useful in the study of the natural history of ischemic stroke. However, the potential of DW-MRI for the evaluation of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) has not been established. In this study, we investigated DW-MRI findings of CSDH and evaluated the impact of the image findings on postoperative outcomes of CSDH. Methods : We studied 131 CSDH patients who had undergone single burr hole drainage surgery. The images of the subdural hematomas on preoperative DW-MRI and computed tomography (CT) were divided into three groups based on their signal intensity and density : 1) homogeneous (iso or low) density on CT and homogeneous low signal intensity on DW-MRI; 2) homogeneous (iso or low) density on CT and mixed signal intensity on DW-MRI; and 3) heterogeneous density on CT and mixed signal intensity on DW-MRI. On the basis of postoperative CT, we also divided the patients into 3 groups of surgical outcomes according to residual hematoma and mass effect. Results : Analysis showed statistically significant differences in surgical (A to B : p<0.001, A to C : p<0.001, B to C : p=0.129) and functional (A to B : p=0.039, A to C : p<0.001, B to C : p=0.108) outcomes and treatment failure rates (A to B : p=0.037, A to C : p=0.03, B to C : p=1) between the study groups. In particular, group B and group C showed worse outcomes and higher treatment failure rates than group A. Conclusion : CSDH with homogeneous density on CT was characterized by signal intensity on DW-MRI. In CSDH patients, performing DW-MRI as well as CT helps to predict postoperative treatment failure or complications.

Particle-in-cell method which blends Eulerian grids and Lagrangian particle is utilized to solve simplified hall-effect thruster. Since this study individually tracks not only neutrons and ions but also electrons, message passing interface(mpi) scheme is adopted for parallel computer cluster. Helical movement of an electron cloud in constant magnetic field is validated comparing with an exact solution. A plasma in radial magnetic field and axial electric field in a reaction cylinder is established. Electrons do double helix movement and are well anchored in a cylinder. Ionization of neutrons by impact with high-speed electrons generates ion particles. They are accelerated by axial electric field, which forms a plume of a plasma-effect thruster.
Nocardiosis is an uncommon Gram-positive bacterial infection caused by aerobic actinomycetes in the genus Nocardia. Nocardia spp. have the ability to cause localized or systemic suppurative disease in humans and animals. Nocardiosis is typically regarded as an opportunistic infection, but approximately one-third of infected patients are immunocompetent. We report a rare case of pulmonary nocardiosis and a brain abscess caused by Nocardia asteroides in an elderly woman with a history of Crohn's disease. Radiographic imaging revealed a contrast-enhancing lesion with perilesional parenchymal edema that was preoperatively thought to be a neoplasm. The patient experienced aggressive disease progression simulating a metastatic brain tumor. Early diagnosis of norcadiosis, the absence of underlying disease, and the administration of appropriate antibiotics has a positive impact on prognosis. Familiarity with the magnetic resonance and computed tomography findings associated with CNS nocardiosis, such as those presented here, is essential for making an early diagnosis.
