We have detected cracks inside multi-layer metal sheets with nondestructive evaluation system consisting of SQUID gradiometer. Double D-shape coil was carefully designed with computer simulation for spatial distribution of magnetic field. It was aligned and placed in between SQUID and metal sheets in order to reduce the field effect to SQUID and to maximize eddy current in the sheets. The metal plate in bottom of the metal stack contained artificial cracks which were scanned by an X-Y scanning system. The information of crack position and size could be estimated by analysis of SQUID signal. Details of the results will be discussed .
Superconducting synchronous motors compared with conventional motors can reduce the motor size and enhance the motor efficiency for low-speed and high torque applications under the space constraints for propulsion system. Especially, homopolar superconducting synchronous motors (HSSMs) need less superconductor and lower magnetic flux density in superconductor field coil than air-cored superconducting synchronous motors (ASSMs). In addition, mechanical structure is more simplified and stability is increased because the superconductor field coil of HSSMs is not rotated in operation. In this paper, we present the outline of HSSMs including structure, characteristics and operational principles with the conceptual design of 5MW HSSM.

The PZT piezoelectric ceramic on the copper alloy plate shows a extraordinary pattern resulted from the electromagnetic and thermal radiation induced by copper coil. The Eddy current or magnetic field by the polarization of PZT grains contained Pb, Zr, Ti with oxide is performed to show the change of array pattern at piezoelectric grains, especially wave-shaped or wrinkled configuration along with lines of electromagnetic field are becoming larger than before while applying the coil induction.
This paper presents experimental and numerical investigation on heat generation of a bulk HTS for application to a 100 kWh Superconductor Flywheel Energy Storage System(SFES) bearing. An experimental device is manufactured to reproduce varying magnetic field conditions that a bulk HTS may experience during the operation of the 100 kWh SFES. The bulk HTS is directly cooled by a cryocooler while the heat is generated by the eddy currents created by varying magnetic fields induced by a coil. In order to design the cryocooling system for the 100 kWh SFES project, a preliminary experiment to investigate the actual cooling load variation under AC magnetic field has been carried out. In the experiment, two different copper holders were designed and tested. Several temperature sensors were installed on each component of the assembly and the temperatures were measured for several operating conditions of the 100 kWh SFES. The experimental investigation on the thermal response of the bulk HTS and its holder is considered to be a valuable step fur the successful materialization of a large-scale SFES.

Though the nuclear fusion system has been fused into hydro-nuclear based on thermodynamics by tokamak system, there has been no success story. Because it's impossible to confine high temperatured plasma long Time actually. New nuclear-fusion-system using this nuclear-fusion-method will gather toroidal-magnetic-field by putting Core Block(C shaped torus iron) and toroidal-aluminium coil into toroidal magnetic-field-aluminium. That will arrange the nuclear-fusion-route on a gap fallen out by a part of cut torus-core and mkee the toroidal-an electric-current flow and electrolyze the fusioned-material (an electrolyte) into troidal-electrocity. That consists of troidal-magnetic-fild coil, toroidal-coial fusioned- material, series circuit. So toroidal-electocity will be changed into filament-electrocity and be introjected into fusioned-material. In a sapce on filament-electrocity, the magnetic inhaling-powr will enlarge to input-electrocity outside. This will exceed the Coulomb force and reache the nuclear-fusion. By this phenomenon there be quantity-loss. By this process I could confirmed that Einstein euation$(E=mC^2)$ releases into thermal energy.
HTS wires processed by PIT method are now available for magnet applications. But, those wires can not be used over 40 K due to weak link. This leads to necessity of development of coated conductor which can retain high $J_c$ at high field in liquid nitrogen. In this paper, various technical issues and the R&D status for both PIT wires and coated conductor were discussed. The difference of coated conductor's processes were also investigated and summarized. Various requirements for a design of HTS magnets were discussed. Anisostropic $J_c$ property with respect to magnetic field was considered to determine the coil's critical current. Low n value is a critical parameter to degrade a field stability with respect to time for a persistent mode HTS magnet. The relation between the margin of operation current and n value was investigated. Prototype HTS magnets with PIT wires are being developed for various applications such as crystal growth, MRI, magnetic separator and etc. HTS magnets will come into wide use in various fields of industries if the HTS wires with a low performance cost is developed.
For the development of the 0.7 MJ small-sized superconducting magnetic energy storage (${\mu}$SMES) device, quench currents of a kA class superconducting cable were tested for various winding tensions because a dry superconducting coil is usually quenched by an abrupt heat pulse due to strand motions. The test coil similar to parameters of the optimally designed 0.7 MJ ${\mu}$SMES except a stored energy and a size was fabricated based on the test results of the kA class superconducting cable and tested. These experimental results show that the highly prestressed test coil has an excellent DC performance in spite of a dry type coil but its quench current is much degraded even at the low field ramping rate of about 0.4 T/s.
In recent years, the interaction force between a permanent magnet and a closed superconductor coil has been gradually investigated in depth. The principle and application potential of an energy storage/convertor composed of a magnet and a closed superconducting coil have been proved. However, the study on the force between a magnet and a non-closed superconducting coil (superconducting roll stack) has hardly been reported in previous literature. The behavior of this kind of interaction and its influence to the interaction force between a permanent and a closed superconducting coil are also still unclear. In this paper, first we investigated the interaction force between a magnet and a superconducting roll stack. Then, a series of experiments were designed and conducted to clarify the factors affected the interaction force, including the geometrical parameters of the superconducting roll stack and the magnetic field density at the roll stack. Moreover, the comparison of the interaction forces between the magnet and roll stack or a closed coil was also introduced.

Superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) is attractive apparatus to reduce fault current in power grid. Since it is applied to the alternating current (AC) power line, the SFCL has losses in the normal operation. Recently, coated conductor (CC) is noticeable material employed for resistive bifilar winding type SFCL in many research groups. Bifilar structure is expected to have low AC loss by magnetic field offset as compared with the single tape structure in the same length. This paper reports about characteristic of bifilar pancake type coil for SFCL application in AC loss aspect. The bifilar coil is wound using CC with facing on HTS sides each other. Transport AC loss measurement and characteristic analysis of the bifilar coil using CC have been performed at 77K. The test results are compared with the Norris equations and the test results of non-inductively wound paralleled solenoid type coil which is suggested and tested in this group at present.
RF (radio-frequency) probes of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance are one of the important factors and should be designed and built properly depending upon the geometry of the samples and the information. In general there are two kinds of rf probes : one encircles the sample while the other is placed on the surface of the sample. However, in case that the samples on human internal organs have a tube shape, the two kinds of rf probes, as specified above, are usually unsuitable for the internal imaging due to the degradation of signal-to-noise ratios (SNR's). In this case a probe should be positioned as close to the area as possible by putting the probe in the tubelike sample to improve filling factor In the present study inside-out probes have been constructed in the three different shapes such as an anti-solenoidal, a saddle and a dual surface types. RF-field distributions have also been calculated depending upon the geometrical changes of anti-solenoid probes. Moreover, the performance of the inside-out probes has been checked by measuring SNR's of the images acquired. The inside-out probes constructed in this study produced better SWR's and rf-field uniformity in the area close to the probes in comparing with any other commercial probes. There is a high feasibility that the constructed probes in the present study are applicable to the diagnosis of human bodies.
