The characteristics of carbonaceous particles collected from the combustion of Vacuum Residue (VR) in a test furnace have been investigated. The physical and chemical characterization includes particle size, scanning electron microscopy of the surface structure, measurement of porosity, surface area and density, EDX/XRD analyses and measurement of chemical composition. The studies show that the carbonaceous VR particles are very porous and spheroidal, and have many blow-holes on the surface. The particles become smaller and more sponge-like as the reaction proceeds. The present porosity of VR particles is similar to that of cenospheres from the combustion of heavy oil, and the majority of pores are distributed in macro-pores above $0.03\;{\mu}m$ in diameter. Measurements of pore distribution and surface area showed that the macro-pores contributed most to total pore volume, whereas the micro-pores contributed to total surface area.

surface texture denotes set of tiny repetitive geometric features on an object surface. 3D Printing can readily create a surface of controlled macro-textures of high geometric complexity. Designing surface textures for 3D Printing, however, is difficult due to complex macro-structure of the tiny texture geometry since it needs to be compatible with the non-traditioal manufacturing method. In this paper we propose a visual simulation technique involving development of a virtual model-an intermediate geometric model-of the surface texture design prior to fabricating the physical model. Careful examination of the virtual model before the actual fabrication can help minimize unwanted design iterations. The proposed technique demonstrated visualization capability by comparing the virtual model with the physical model for several test cases.

Recently, with a progressive development of hardware of computer, the internet and network technology, the environment of construction varies rapidly due to increase the complex form in structure shape and system. With variations, the CAD system for design and products also varies from 2D system to 3D system. This study mainly deals with the methodology of automatic connection design of 3D CAD system, steel connection system (XSteel) using macro. First, using design program in the steel connection system, Xsteel, the joint connection macro will be made up and established the detail classes of design. The next, Database Program (Converter Program) related to the general structural analysis program (MIDAS) and the steel connection program (Xsteel) is constructed for data interface between two programs. From this study, if the merits of 3D CAD system and converter program are utilized well, it is expected that the time needed in modeling and the amounts due to material loses decrease gradually.
This paper revisited the key advances on System Dynamics modeling about traditional macro-economic models and economic growth structures, and then tries to elaborate a new model based on the endogenous growth theory that incorporates new growth factors, relevant to knowledge/technology as well as the Environment, into traditional growth models. Accordingly, the new model augments the acceleration and multiplier loops and the balancing ones representing market clearing mechanism with a simple numerical example. The authors thus provides macroeconomic System Dynamics analysts with a milestone to model macro-economic structures reflecting on traditional and cutting-edge theories on sustainable economic growth and general equilibrium modeling.

The GTO model is based on the Ebers-Moll equation extened to include the three-junction devices and a detailed description of the implementation of the model equation as well as defferent tests are discussed. Problems to be considered for the snubber design, such as voltage spike reduction, maximum GTO anode current, and switching power, were discussed using the calculation model. The macro model is very useful for simulation of GTO circuit and high power circuit switch in high frequency and complex structure.

The continuous indentation techniques are one of the most effective methods to nondestructively estimate mechanical properties. There are many applications in various dimensions of materials from macro-scale, through micro-scale, even to nano-scale range. The macro-range technology of kgf-load level is now focused on the evaluation of tensile properties and residual stress of bulk materials, for example, used in conventional load-bearing structures and in-use pipelines. The technology and the apparatus were successfully developed by a domestic research group. The micro-range technology of gf-load level can be applied to investigate some property-gradient materials such as weldment. Because it has better spatial resolution than the macro-range technology. The nano-range technology (called nanoindentation technique) of mgf-load level is basically used to evaluate hardness and modulus of micro- and nano-materials. Moreover, many researches are going on to measure tensile properties and residual stress. The nanoindentation technology is easy to be applied to the various fields, such as semiconductor devices, multiphase materials, and biomaterials, though other methods are too difficult to be applied due to dimensional or environmental limitations. On the basis of these accomplishments, the international and the domestic standards are being established.
This study examined how students revised their writing after reciprocal peer review and how their revision activities were influenced by the review. Undergraduates in physics class wrote a laboratory reports, exchanged comments with peers, and revised their reports afterward based on the comments they received from their peers. The comparison between the original and the revised drafts showed that students were mainly concerned with micro-meaning revisions, focusing on making changes on individual words, clauses, and sentences. Revisions that dealt with macro-meaning of the texts were not as frequent. Giving and receiving comments influenced later revision activities. Receiving comments on micro-meaning of the texts led to a significant increase in both micro- and macro-meaning revisions. Receiving comments on macro-meaning of the texts, however, did not prompt relevant revision activities. Even when students engaged in macro revision, it was negatively related to writing performance gains in one subgroup, suggesting that even after peers point out macro-problems in their writing, students are not competent to solve the problems yet. The results of the study suggest that more efforts are needed to help them to understand and manipulate the macro-meaning structure of the texts.

Milli-structure components are classified as a component group whose size is between macro and micro scales, that is, about less than 20mm and larger than 1mm. The forming of these components has a typical phenomenon of bulk deformation with thin sheets because of the forming size. In this study, milli-structure rectangular cup drawing is analyzed and measured using the finite element method and experiment. Generally, milli-structure containers or cases like cellular phone vibrator consist of rectangular-shaped drawing to save installation space. A systematic approach is established for the design and the experiment of the forming processes for rectangular milli-structure cases. To verify the simulation results, the experimental investigations were also carried out on a real industrial product. The numerical analysis by FEM shows good agreement with the experimental results in view of the deformation shape of the product.

In this work, active control algorithm is adopted to reduce delamination effects of the damaged composite structure and control performance with MFC actuator is numerically evaluated. Finite element model for the damaged composite structure with piezoelectric actuator is established based on improved layerwise theory. In order to achieve high control performance, MFC actuator, which has increased actuating force, is considered as a piezoelectric actuator. Mode shapes and corresponding natural frequencies for the damaged smart composite structure are studied. After design and implementation of active controller, dynamic characteristics of the damaged smart composite structure are investigated.

This work presents an active vibration control of a stiffened hull structure using a flexible macro fiber composite (MFC) actuator. As first step, the governing equation of the hull structure is derived in a matrix form and its dynamic characteristics such as natural frequency are obtained via a finite element analysis (FEA). The natural frequencies obtained from the FEA are compared with those determined from experimental measurement. After formulating the control model in a state space representation, an optimal controller is designed in order to attenuate the vibration of the stiffened hull structure. The controller is then empirically realized through dSPACE and control responses are evaluated in time domain.
