  • In recent years, the automization of cutting machine tools has been developed very fast. Hance, the in-process detection of cutting condition is very important for automatic manufacturing system in factory. Acoustic Emission(AE) has been widely used in monitoring the cutting conditions, because of high sensitivity of AE signal and low cost of AE equipment. This experimental study deals with the relations between AE signal, cutting force charcteristics and tool wear in the machining of SUS304. Face milling operation is used for the analysis between tool wear and AE signal.

  • Morphological analysis of wear particles in the lubricating oil is a very effective and versatile means of lubricant analysis for machine condition monitoring and fault diagnosis. The prospects for determining quantitative information about wear particle morphology have been considerably enhanced by recent developments reported in the application of image processing and analysis techniques. This study was undertaken to investigate the influence of oiliness agent and extreme pressure agent on the shape of wear particles. The wear test was performed under different experimental conditions with stearic acid, dibenzyl disulfide(DBDS) and tricresol phosphate(TCP) in paraffinic base oil. Wear particles characteristics were described using four shape parameters, namely 50% volumetric diameter, aspect, roundness and reflectivity. The results showed that the four shape parameters of wear particles depend on a kind of the additives. This analysis of wear debris with computer image processing techniques is sufficient to distinguish some types of wear debris. The wear volume of three kinds of the specimens are affected by the additives with boundary films.

  • The expert system monitoring and diagnosing 765kV power apparatus was described in this paper. To develop this expert system, we studied the knowledge bases and data bases for 765kV transformer and GIS. In order to make the reliable inference of knowledge base and the good MMI(Man Machine Interface), the data bases were consisted of the tables of power apparatus information, limit level value, measured input data, inference result and diagnosis result. The knowledge base had various rules to infer the conditions of transformer and GIS. We applied both the forward chaining and backward chaining methods to these rules of system for good inferences. This paper describes the applied methods for expert system. Also, this developed system was tested with dissolved gas analyzing result and the result was shown.

고속 앵귤러 콘택트 볼베어링의 마찰 토크 및 윤활 특성 (Characteristics of Friction Torques and Lubrication in High Speed Angular Contact Ball Bearings)

  • Friction torques, electrical contact resistances and bearing temperatures were measured on high speed angular contact ball beatings for the spindle of machine tools. The test bearings ran with oil-air lubrication at the thrust loads from 320 N to 1920 N and at the rotational speed of up to 12000 rpm. Electrical contact resistances between balls and races were measured to evaluate the formation of the lubricant film in the contact area. The test results with sufficient lubrication showed that the variations of friction torques were sensitive to the thrust loads and the rotational speeds, and that the friction torques were higher than those with insufficient lubrication. With insufficient lubrication and high thrust loads, the collapse of the lubricant film was detected even at a high rotational speed. It was concluded that these high speed beatings to run in condition of fluid lubrication should require monitoring not only the temperature increase of the bearing but also the lubricant film formation in contact areas resulting from the change in the applied load and the lubricant amount.

  • As the increasing of capacity and technology of power facilities, rotating machines such as turbine generators and water turbines are getting higher at capacity but smaller in size. Thus the monitoring and diagnosis of generators for fault detection and protection has attracted intensive interest. Most of electrical faults of rotating machines appear in their windings. In case of an after-fault in high capacity rotating machines, the recovering cost is usually very expensive and additional time is necessary for returning in a normal situation. In this paper, the magnetic flux patterns in air-gap of a generator under various fault states as well as a normal state are simulated by a conventional FEM tool. These results are successfully applied to detection and diagnosis of the short-circuit condition in rotor windings of a high capacity generator.

  • The conventional thermal insulator and power transformer testing is widely used in surface aging measurement of outside insulator because those testing can carry out very short time in Lab testing. Also thermal testing is able to offer the standard judgement of relative degradation level of outside HV machine. There it is very useful method compare to previous conventional thermal testing method and effective Lab testing method. But surface discharges(SD) have very complex characteristics of discharge pattern so it is required estimation research to development of precise analysis method. In recent, the study of IRR-camera is carrying out discover of temperature of power equipment through condition diagnosis and system development of degradation diagnosis. In this study, thermal testing of Power transformer is measured with partial temperature distribution in real time.

웨이브렛 변환을 이용한 밀링 버 생성 음향방출 모니터링 (Acoustic Emission Monitoring of Milling Burr Formation Using Wavelet Transform)

  • Detection of exit burr is very important in manufacturing automation. In this paper, acoustic emission(AE) was used to detect the burr formation during milling. By using wavelet transformation, AE data was compressed without unnecessary details. Then the transformed data were used as selected features (inputs) of a back-propagation artificial neural net. In order to validate the proposed scheme, the wavelet based ANN results were compared with cutting condition(cutting speed, feed, depth of cut, etc.) based ANN results.

The shape fractal dimension can be derived from the boundary profile and surface fractal dimension can be determined by sum of intensity difference of surface pixel. The morphology of wear particles can be effectively obtained by two fractal dimensions.

  • This paper presents the methodology for measuring eccentricity of the machined cylindrical part using CCS(cylindrical capacitance spindle sensor) signal in the CNC turning process. We use capacitance type sensor to take full advantage of averaging effect by using large capacitance area to encompass the whole side of a sensor. The intentionally proposed initial eccentricity is applied to the experimental testpieces, and their resultant relationships between CCS orbits and eccentricities are investigated. As a result, the possibility as a automatic detection apparatus for the CNC lathe is considered based on the linearities of CCS signal and magnitude of eccentricity of machined cylindrical surfaces.
