  • In this paper, we estimate the mean number of objects in the M/H2/1 model for web service when the mean object size in the M/H2/1 model is equal to that of the M/G/1/PS and M/BP/1 models. To this end, we use the mean object size obtained by assuming that the mean latency of deterministic model is equal to that of M/H2/1, M/G/1/PS, and M/BP/1 models, respectively. Computational experiments show that if the shape parameter of the M/BP/1 model is 1.1 and the system load is greater than 0.35, the mean number of objects in the M/H2/1 model when mean object size of M/H2/1 model is the same as that of M/G/1/PS model is almost equal to the mean number of objects in the M/H2/1 model when the mean object size of M/H2/1 model is the same as that of M/BP/1 model. In addition, as the upper limit of the M/BP/1 model increases, the number of objects in the M/H2/1 model converges to one, which increases latency. These results mean that it is efficient to use small-sized objects in the web service environment.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the growth of soybean sprouts and the effective hormonal refutation of vitamin C content by the concentration and combination of kinetin and auxins such as IAA, 2.4-D and NAA. The results were as follows; 1. The growth of soybean sprouts were fine under the respective conditions of kinetin $10^{-8}M+IAA\;10^{-6}M$, kinetin $10^{-7}M+IAA\;10^{-5}M$, kinetin $10^{-6}M+IAA\;10^{-6}M$, kinetin $10^{-5}M+IAA\;10^{-7}M$, kinetin $10^{-8}M+2,4-D\;10^{-8}M$ and kinetin $10^{-7}M+NAA\;10^{-5}M$. 2. The root development of soybean sprouts were almost in accord with the growth of soybean sprouts by the concentration of kinetin and auxin. 3. The content of vitamin C were more increased under in kinetin $10^{-8}M+IAA\;10^{-8}M$, kinetin $10^{-6}M+2,4-D\;10^{-5}M$ and kinetin $10^{-8}M+NAA\;10^{-8}M$ and both growth and vitamin C content were more activated under kinetin $10^{-8}M+IAA\;10^{-6}M$ and $10^{-8}M+NAA\;10^{-8}M$. 4. The growth, root development and vitamin C content were increased in the low kinetin and high IAA, NAA concentration. Root development and vitamin C content of soybean hypocotyl were decreased in the low kinetin and high 2,4-D concentration.

  • Shrub growth and fruit characteristics and working time of 'Duke' blueberry by shrub distance were investigated. Overapping rate of blueberry crown was 109% in 0.6 m shrub distance, 37% in 1.2 m shrub distance, and -88% in 2.4 m shrub distance, respectively. The number of main stem tended to increase as the shrub spacing widened. The other fruit characteristics, except for the fruit weight, did not show any significantly different according to the shrub distance. The yield per 10 a was 2,097 kg for 0.6 m shrub distance, 1,303 kg for 1.2 m shrub distance, and 710.7 kg for 2.4 m shrub distance in 2019, respectively. Total working time was 154 hr for 0.6 m shrub distance, 114 hr for 1.2 m shrub distance, and 74 hr for 2.4 m shrub distance. Therefore, the blueberry shrub distance was judged to be appropriate about 1.2 m in the long-termly. However, in order to increase yield early and income, the shrub can maintain 0.6 m distance during young shrub, it can managed flexibly to 1.2 m distance when it becomes a mature shrub.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of caffeine and calcium on the activities of the osteoblastic cell from mouse calvaria. The author cultured osteoblastic cells obtained from the mouse calvaria and were divided into three groups : the caffeine-treated, the calcium-treated and the combine-treated group. In caffeine-treated group, the cell toxicity was measured by MTT assay at 1, 2 and 4 days after treatment of caffeine. In all groups, the densities of the mineralized bone nodules were measured by imaging analyzer after Von Kossa staining. The alkaline phosphotase (ALP) activities were measured at 2, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days and the interleukin-1 ${\beta}$ activities at 48 hours after treatment of caffeine and calcium. The measurements were statistically executed with ANOVA test and the results were as follows. 1. The cellular toxicity of the caffeine increased with the concentration of caffeine during the incubation period. 2. The maximum densities of mineralization were observed at 0.2 mM caffeine-treated group, 1.2 mM calcium-treated group, 0.1 mM caffeine and 1.8 mM calcium-treated group. 3. The activities of ALP were peaked at 14 days at calcium-treated group as no-treated. But, the activities of ALP increased with concentrations of caffeine at caffeine-treated group. At combine-treated group, the act of ALP were peaked at 24 days at 1.2 mM, 1.8 mM calcium-treated group, But decreased at 2.5 mM calcium-treated group. 4. The activites of the IL-1 ${\beta}$ were increased significantly at 0.2 mM caffeine-treated group, 1.8 mM calcium-treated group and 0.1 mM caffeine and 1.8 mM calcium-treated group. But, they were decreased at all groups of high concentration.

  • The effects of diluents composition on cold storage for Scapharca broughtonii (Schrenck) sperm were examined in the percentage of sperm activity and survival rate. Various diluents of glucose solutions (10 mM Hepes-pH 7.8), 600 mM NaCl, stein solution, Ringer's solution (230 mM NaCl, 8 mM KCl, 2 mM $CaCl_2$, 3.7 mM $MgCl_2$, 0.2 mM $NaHCO_3$, 10 mM Hepes-pH 7.8), 20%, 25% ASW (NaCl 2.7 g + KCl 0.07 g + $CaCl_2$ 0.12 g + $MgCl_2$ 0.46 g + $NaHCO_3$ 0.05 g + distilled water 100 ml) were used to store th sperm at $4^{\circ}C$. The storage effect was evaluated using sperm activity and survival rate. Ringer's solution was found to be better diluents which maintained high activity and survival rate of sperm for a storage period of 7 days. Optimal pH of diluents to store the sperm at $4^{\circ}C$ is 7.5.

  • This study was performed by the sister chromatid exchanges (SCEs) and micronuclei (MN) assays to investigate the adaptive response to ultraviolet light (UV) or ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) and Sarcoma 180 (S180) cells. The pretreatment with 1 J/m$^2$ UV or 2 mM EMS decreased the frequency of SCEs induced by the treatment with 5 J/m$^2$ UV or 8 mM EMS in CHO cells. The pretreatment with UV (1 or 2 J/m$^2$) or EMS (1, 2 or 3 mM) did not affect the SCEs induced by the treatment with 7 J/m$^2$ UV or 10 mM EMS in S180 cells. On the other hand, the pretreatment with 1 J/m$^2$ UV or 2 mM EMS decreased the frequency of MN induced by the treatment with 5 J/m$^2$ UV or 8 mM EMS in CHO cells. The pretreatment with UV (1 or 2 J/m$^2$) or EMS (1, 2 or 3 mM) did not affect the frequency of MN induced by the treatment with 7 J/m$^2$ UV or 10 mM EMS in S180 cells. It is suggested that there are adaptive responses at the level of chromosome and micronuclei to UV and EMS in CHO cells.

  • The effects of branched chain amino acids and small metabolites in growth media on the biosynthesis of Serratia marcescens ATCC 25419 acetolactate synthase (ALS) were examined. ALS activ~ty was gradually decreased by isoleucme or leucine among the range from 1 mM to 20 rnM, while the activity was increased 40% by isoleucine under low concentration (0.5 mM). ALS activity was also increased about 40% by valine among 2 to 4 mM ranges, but the activity was decreased only 10% at 20 mM. ALS activity was decreased 25% and 70% by the simultaneous addition of all three branched chain amino acids at 2 mM and 10 mM, respectively. Among several small metabolites tested, ALS activity was increased about 2-fold by cAMP at 2 mM. These data suggest that Sorrtrtiti rnorcewns ALS is muitivalently repressed by branched chain amino acids, but not repressed by valine alone.

  • The effect of methylglyoxal-bis (guanylhydrazone) (MGBG) and ethylene synthesis inhibitors on adventitious root formation from soybean cotyledon in relation to ethylene production and endogenous polyamine content was investigated. Cotyledon explants cultured on rooting medium formed numerous adventitious rook on the cut surfaces after 2 weeks of culture. However when cultured on rooting medium supplemented with MGBG, the root formation was strongly inhibited, its inhibitory effect was reserved when cultured on medium with MGBG + spermine, MGBG + CoCl$_2$ and MGBG + spermine+CoC1$_2$. A slight reversion of the rooting inhibition was observed in 10$^{-3}$ M MGBG +10$^{-5}$ M spermine treatment, whereas it caused a significant effect in 10$^{-3}$ M MGBG +10$^{-4}$ M treatment .Ethylene production and endogenous polymine content was investgated in 10$^{-3}$ M MGBG , 10$^{-3}$ M MGBG +10$^{-5}$ Mspermine, 10$^{-3}$ M MGBG +10$^{-4}$ M CoCl$_2$and 10$^{-3}$ M MGBG +10$^{-5}$ M spermine +10$^{-4}$ M CoCl$_2$treatments. Ethylene production highest in 10$^{-3}$ M MGBG +10$^{-5}$ M spermine treatment was higher than control. In 10$^{-3}$ M MGBG +10$^{-5}$ M spermine + 10$^{-4}$ M CoCl$_2$ treatment, ethilene production was lowest, whereas polyamine level was highest.

  • To address the need for autonomous control of remote and distributed mobile systems, Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications are rapidly gaining attention from both academia and industry. M2M communications have recently been deployed in smart grid, home networking, health care, and vehicular networking environments. This paper focuses on M2M communications in the vehicular networking context and investigates areas where M2M principles can improve vehicular networking. Since connected vehicles are essentially a network of machines that are communicating, preferably autonomously, vehicular networks can benefit a lot from M2M communications support. The M2M paradigm enhances vehicular networking by supporting large-scale deployment of devices, cross-platform networking, autonomous monitoring and control, visualization of the system and measurements, and security. We also present some of the challenges that still need to be addressed to fully enable M2M support in the vehicular networking environment. Of these, component standardization and data security management are considered to be the most significant challenges.
