  • This paper presents the design and measured performances of an unequal dual-band power divider using lumped elements. After the divider is designed using the conventional single band Wilkinson topology with lumped elements, we obtained the dual band characteristics with filter conversion method. This design method has the features of compact size and easy fabrication, because the high impedance transmission line realizes the lumped elements of equivalent circuit. As an example, an 2:1 divider has been designed and measured at 880 MHz and 1650 MHz in order to show the validity of the proposed unequal divider. The measured performances of the unequal power divider agree with the simulation results.

  • In this study, we analyzed and experimented micro-strip line inductors and capacitors for a SAW duplexer, an important devise for mobile communication. For SAW duplexers, micro-strip line lumped elements must have small impedance values, below several tens of nH or several tens of pF, and a small area pattern. In this study, we performed theoretical analysis of flat line type, meander line type, and spiral line type inductors and interdigital capacitors on a LiTaO$_3$ Piezo-crystal. We proposed a measurement method to evaluate small values of lumped elements accurately with network analyzer. In experiments, we confirmed validity of the theoretical analysis method through fabrication and characterization of micro-strip line lumped elements. The analysis method in this paper can be applied to SAW duplexers well as other microwave devices.

  • Generally, the time history analysis among seismic response analyses of a structure needs more times than static analysis. Therefore the mechanical model of a structure has been used as a simple lumped parameter model in time history analysis. For the most cases, the simple mechanical model shows the similar results to that of detailed finite element model. so it is reasonable to use the simple mode] in preliminary analysis. In seismic design of liquid storage tank, such as LNG storage tank, the lumped parameter mode] also is being used in preliminary analysis, however sometimes shows the differences to the results of detailed finite element model. Therefore in this study, the dynamic characteristics between lumped parameter model and detailed finite model is compared for the variables such as height/diameter of liquid-storage tank and thickness of wall, then the applicability of beam mode] to the seismic response analysis are evaluated for some liquid storage tanks.

  • In this paper, We report the miniaturization of superconducting microwave power dividers based on lumped element equivalent circuits. To do this, we analyzed a conventional branch-type power divider by using an ABCD matrix under even and odd mode excitation. Then, we calculated each lumped element impedance throughout this analysis of a transmission line matrix. Also we simulated our equivalent circuits made of lumped elements by using a full wave analysis, em Sonnet. Our deign of microwave power divider based on simulated results was fabricated on high-$T_c$ superconducting thin films deposited on MgO substrate. Experimental results were reported in terms of bandwidth, center frequency, and phase difference between $S_{21}$ and $S_{31}$. We confirm that our design will be useful in the future microwave power systum.

  • As part of the effort to reduce the weight of powertrain, a hollow crankshaft has been designed. The mass reduction of the crankshaft changes the dynamic properties of the crankshaft such as moment of inertia, and torsional, bending stiffness. The purpose of this paper is to compare the dynamic behavior of the hollow crankshaft with that of the original, solid crankshaft. Global dynamic behavior of the crankshaft is analyzed bgy the transfer matrix method(TMM). The crankshaft has been modeled by 38 lumped mass and stiffness elements. The dynamic patameters of each lumped element are provided by Finite Element Method(FEM). The responses of the crankshaft from TMM are fed back as loading conditions to the Finite Element model to obtain dynamic stresses for critical areas of the crankshaft.

  • Dynamic behavior of missile which is fired in canister is analyzed by flexible multibody dynamics. The bending elasticity of missile is very important in case that missile is fired in the inclined launcher. In this paper, the force element model for the missile launching stage and the finite element model of missile are developed. The FEA model of missile is condensed into five lumped mass element model and the consistence between FE model and lumped mass model of missile is verified by modal analysis. As a result of analysis, sabot reaction force and pitch rate of missile for the variation of gap size and force element are obtained.

• In this study, lumped-vortex element method and thin airfoil theory were used to analyze aerodynamic characteristics of airfoils with relative motion that had camber lines of NACA $44{\times}{\times}$ airfoil in 2-dimensional unsteady incompressible potential flow. Velocity disturbance due to airfoil was calculated by lumped-vortex element model and force distribution on airfoil by unsteady Bernoulli's equation. Variables in relative motion were considered the period p, the amplitude of flapping $A_f$ and pitching $A_p$, and the phase difference between flapping and pitching ${\phi}_p$ and the angle of attack ${\alpha}$. Due to movement of an airfoil, dag was induced in 2-dimensional unsteady incompressible potential flow. The numerical results show that the aerodynamic characteristics of the airfoil with flapping and pitching at the same time are illustrated. Especially the mean lift coefficient became smaller, but drag coefficient became larger.

  • A broad-band design method of a lumped-element 3dB quadrature hybrid without magnetic coupling is proposed and discussed, where techniques of cascading fundamental hybrids via second-order delay equalizers and adding matching sections are adopted. It is shown that the designed broad-band lumped-element 3dB quadrature hybrid can be easily constructed and its bandwidth reaches up to 54%. Furthermore, the esperiments have been carried out, the results of which agree with the theoretical ones, and hence, the validity of the broad-band design method proposed here was confirmed.

  • A compact radio frequency (RF) bandpass filter (BPF) in low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) is suggested for WiMAX applications. The center frequency ($f_0$) of the BPF is 5.5 GHz and its pass band or 3-dB bandwidth is 700 MHz to cover all the three major bands, low and middle unlicensed national information infrastructure (U-NII; 5.15-5.35 GHz), World Radiocommunication Conference (5.47-5.725 GHz), and upper U-NII/industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) (5.725-5.85 GHz), for the WiMAX frequency band. A lumped circuit element design-the 5th order capacitively coupled Chebyshev BPF topology-is adopted. In order to design a compact RF BPF, a very thin ($43.18{\mu}m$) ceramic layer is used in LTCC substrate. An interdigital BPF is also designed in silicon substrate to compare the size and performance of the lumped circuit element BPF. Due to the high relative dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}_r$ = 11.9) of the silicon substrate, the quarter-wavelength resonator of the interdigital BPF can be reduced. In comparison to the 5th order interdigital BPF at $f_0$ = 5.5 GHz, the lumped element design is 24% smaller in volume and has 17 and 7 dB better attenuation characteristics at $f_0{\pm}0.75$ GHz.
