Litho printing ink vehicles based on rosin modified phenolic are faster drying, have better durability, are harder and glosser and have greater resistance to water than ones based on ester gums. Ink-Water balance and rheological properties are important in litho printing process. These physical properties is concerned with molecular weight of Resin to use vehicle. So this paper was studied about the effects of changing molecular weight of Rosin modified phenolic on surface tension, viscosity, pseudoplasticity and printablility of Litho Inks. The results were as follows. 1) The surface tension of model inks depended on the molecular weight of the resin : Dispersion componnent of ink increase but non dispersion component decrease as molecular weight of Resin increase. 2) Water pick-up of litho ink is more fast balance, using low molecular weight of Resin. 3) Viscosity, Yield value and Newtonian value of model inks increase as molecular weight of Resin increase. 4) The litho ink prepared with the modified phenolic of which molecular weight is about 20000 showed the highest printing density and gloss.
Changes of silk fibroin molecular weight was studied by enzymatic proteolysis and reverse reaction of enzymatic proteolysis (plastein reaction) using chromatography, X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis methods. When the treatment of enzymatic proteolysis with $\alpha$-chymotripsin to silk fibroin solution, a precipitate of Fcp fractions was formed. And, this was dissolved in LiBr aqueous solution, the precipitate of PIFcp fractions was obtained again. Fcp and PIFcp fractions showed silk IIand silk Itype structure, respectively. Fcp fractions was about 6,900 in molecular weight, PIFcp fractions obtained by plastein reaction on the precipitate of Fcp fractions increased molecular weight to abort 15,000. The molecular weight of Fcp fractions was increased by plastein reaction, but Fcp fractions almost transited to silk I type crystal. The structure of silk I type of PIFcp fractions was steady identified by X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis. As molecular weight of Fcp fractions was gradually low, PIFcp fractions was become to macromolecule little by little.
The inhibition rate of bacteria growth per molecular weight was higher according as the molecular weight increased, the rate was the highest at the molecular weight 200,000. Microcapsule of ionized calcium was able to be produced by molecular weight 15,000, 30,000, 50,000 and 200,000 of chitosan which was dried for 48 hours after melting it in 2% of acetic acid, adding ionized calcium and controlling pH 1.2. The size of ionized calcium microcapsule was between 200 and $300\;{\mu}m$, the solvency, concentration and the content showed big difference by the molecular weight of chitosan. The inhibition rate of bacteria growth of microcapsule designated high in Gram positive, which was high in S. aureus, S. epidermidis and Bacillus subtilis, low in S. mutans, high in C. albicans in fungi, low in A. niger. The inhibition rate of bacteria growth of chitosan was comparatively high in Gram positive, low in S. mutans and it showed high numerical value in C. albicans of fungi. The rate recorded good result at molecular weight 200,000 relatively, there was no difference according to the molecular weight. The inhibition rate of bacteria growth according to the concentration of the microcapsule increased differently between $1.000{\sim}10,000\;{\mu}g/ml$, it showed antibacterial activity close to the inhibition rate of growth of chitosan rather than ionized calcium. The minimum inhibitory concentration marked the highest in the mixture of chitosan and ionized calcium for all kind of bacteria generally, there was a little difference between yeast and fungi.
As a part of a research on the development of polymeric textile finishing agents, polymerization of low molecular weight copolymers containing maleic anhydride residues have been studied. In order to obtain low molecular weight poly(maleic anhydride-co-vinyl acetate) copolymers, the feed ratio of the two monomers and the concentrations of initiator and chain transfer agent were varied in the copolymerization. The copolymers were characterized using GPC, NMR, FTIR, DSC, and TGA. Copolymers with molecular weights in the range 2,150 to 6,630 have been prepared and characterized. The hydrolysis of the anhydride groups of the copolymer in water is also discussed.
This study was carried out to compare the efficacy of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (SCMC) with the combination of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) and SCMC for the prevention of postoperative adhesions in the dog. After laparotomy, abrasions were made on the surface of ileal serosa in 17 dogs. The animals were randomly divided into the control group (N = 5) which received no treatment, the SCMC-treated group (N = 6), and the SCMC & LMWH-treated group (N = 6). Hematologic values were monitored before laparotomy and 1, 4, 7, 10 and 14 days after laparotomy. The location and score of adhesion were assessed at second laparotomy 3 weeks later, Although the mean adhesion score both in the SCMC-treated group (7.17${\pm}$1.17) and in the SCMC & LMWH-treated group (4.50${\pm}$1.38) was found to be significantly lower than that in the control group (9.40${\pm}$0.89) (p<0.01 and p<0.01, respectively), more favorable adhesion prevention was achieved in the SCMC & LMWH-treated group in comparison with the SCMC-treated group without any hemor-rhagic complications (p<0.01). This study could conclude that SCMC & LMWH are highly effective in prevention against postoperative adhesion in the dog.
This study was performed to compare the efficacy of carboxymethylchitosan fabric (CMCF) with that of the combination of CMCF and low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) for the prevention of postoperative uterine adhesion in rats. Adhesions were induced by suturing both the uterine serosa and peritoneum abrased until petechial bleeding occurred. Fourteen days later, adhesions were evaluated clinically and histopathologically. The mean tensile strength was significantly decreased in the CMCF and CMCF+LMWH groups compared to that of control group, and the CMCF+LMWH group had the lowest tensile strength. The distance of adhesion site was highest in the CMCF group and slightly decreased in the CMCF+LMWH group comparing to that of control group. The inflammatory cell infiltration and neovascularization of the CMCF group were significantly lower than those of the control group. It was observed that the damage at intestinal serosa was significantly decreased in the CMCF+LMWH group comparing to that of control group. Therefore, it was concluded that CMCF and LMWH may be useful to prevent postoperative uterine adhesion in rats.
Deposition fluxes of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were measured at the Chonbuk National University located in Jeonju between June and November 2002. Fluxes of gaseous and particulate PAHs were separately obtained using a water surface sampler (WSS) and a dry deposition plate (DDP). Most of PAHs were deposited in the gaseous form since the low molecular weight PAHs dominates in the atmosphere. The deposition velocity of particulate PAHs was higher than that of gaseous PAHs when the molecular weight was low, but substantially decreased as the fine particle fraction increased with molecular weight. The deposition velocity was generally higher at high wind speeds. However, increase in the deposition velocity in unstable atmospheric conditions was also observed for gaseous PAHs of intermediate molecular weight.
Diffusion/penetration rates of finishing agents are not a major criterion in the design of low molecular weight finishing agents. However, in the case of polymeric finishing agents, high molecular weights result in large hydrodynamic volumes and diffusion/penetration of the finishing agent into the substrate may become a critical factor in the design of textile finishing agents. Thus the effect of the molecular weight of a model compound, polyethylene glycol, on its diffusion through a cellulose membrane or cotton fabric is studied. Diffusion experiments of polyethylene glycol of molecular weight 400, 1000, 2000, 4600, 8000, and 10000 through cellulose membrane or fabric was carried out in a glass U-tube diffusion apparatus and the half penetration times and the penetration coefficients were determined. Both the half penetration times and the penetration coefficients exhibited a significant change between molecular weight 2000 and 2500 as the molecular weight of polyethylene glycol increased, suggesting that there is a critical molecular weight above which diffusion/penetration becomes difficult. Based on this study on a model compound, it is suggested that polymeric textile finishing agents can be expected to exhibit similar behavior.
