  • Mass concrete structures have many critical points in service. The cracks caused by the heat of hydration is the most serious problem, so that many method ot control cracks(precooling, postcooling, etc) have been applied to construction. But cooling methods take high cost and many installation and limits of field. Therefore it is useful to use the low heat hydration cements for low cost. This paper describes the characteristics of a low heat cement mixing the ternary components of cement(portland cement, blast furnace slag, fly ash) recently developed for mass concrete, belite cement, low heat slag cement(belite base) and fly ash cement (belite base). The objective of this paper is to study on low heat cement about initial compressive strength and hydration heat.

  • Low heat concrete using strontium hydroxide based latent heat material was manufactured in ready-mixed concrete batcher plant and its fundamental properties were tested. As a result of B/P test, its applicability to the construction site was verified. After B/P test, low heat concrete using strontium hydroxide based latent heat material was applied to the real construction site of bridge footing. Through the analysis and the actual measurement of the hydration heat of the concrete footing, the reduction effect of hydration heat and thermal crack was confirmed.

  • Recently, it has been increased to construct massive concrete structures, like under-ground structure, offshore structure etc., ie. concrete construction have become larger and higher and are demanding lower heat concrete to prevent thermal cracking. It has been progressed to replace cements with fly-ash and slag to lower heat of hydration, but it is hard to control quality of the mineral admixtures in stage of adjusting of real construction. Application of low heat portland(Belite Rich) cement for the mass concrete is the best solution to satisfied those requirements. Here are explained the basic properties of fresh concrete as well as hardened concrete of using low heat portland cement(LHPC). Also, we compare the results of adiabatic temperature rise test using LHPC and OPC.

  • It is necessary to develop a new technology for controling thermal cracking by hydration heat according to the increase construction of massive concrete structures, high strength concrete and early strength concrete. Therefore, it was investigated the characteristics of hydration heat generation of low heat concrete using hydration heat reducing admixtures in this study. To investigate the performance of hydration heat reducing admixtures, it was evaluated hydration heat according to the kind and replacement ratio of phase change material series I, II and the way of using hydration heat reducing admixtures in series III.

  • This study has been performed to test the flowability and filling ability of high flowing concrete as well as distribution of aggregate and pore of core specimen, heat of hydration, compressive strength and core strength of concrete. In addition, the resistance to chloride ion penetration and chemical solutionof concrete was tested in order to evaluate the resistance to sea water of concrete and its application of high flowing concrete using blended low heat cement in the field of Seohae Grand Bridge. The properties of high flowing concrete with blended low heat cement were compared with ordinary 25-240-15 concrete using Type V cement. As the results of this study, the flowability and filling ability of high flowing concrete with blended low heat cement is satisfied without vibration. Though the cement content of high flowing concrete with blended low heat cement was 400kg/m$^2$, the rising temperature of it was relatively lower than that of the ordinary 25-240-15 concrete with Type V cement. Also, the compressive of high flowing concrete with blended low heat cement is similar to that of the ordinary 25-240-15 concrete with Type V cement.

  • This paper is to investigate the engineering properties of the concrete incorporating different types of low heat generating binders subjected to various W/B. As expected, it is found that increase of W/B resulted in a decrease of hydration heat and compressive strength. It also showed that the application of high early strength and low carbon type mixture had favorable strength development at early and later age, while hydration heat showed rather higher than existing low heat mixture.
