Attitude Estimation of Unmanned Vehicles Using Unscented Kalman Filter (무향 칼만 필터를 이용한 무인 운송체의 자세 추정)

  • The paper describes an application of unscented Kalman filter(UKF) for attitude estimation of an unmanned vehicle(UV), which is equipped with a low-cost attitude heading reference system (AHRS). The roll, pitch and yaw required at the correction stage of the UKF are calculated from the measurements of acceleration and geomagnetic field. The roll and pitch are attributed to the measurement of acceleration, while yaw is calculated from the geomagnetic field measurement. Since the measurement of geomagnetic field is vulnerable to distortion by hard-iron and soft-iron effects, the calculated yaw has more uncertainty than the calculated roll and pitch. To reduce the uncertainty of geomagnetic field measurement, the proposed method estimates bias in the geomagnetic field measurement and compensates for the bias for more accurate calculation of yaw. The proposed method is verified through navigation experiments of a UV in a test pool. The results show that the proposed method yields more accurate attitude estimation; thus, it results more accurate location estimation.

Electrical Conduction Mechanism of (Ba, Sr) $TiO_3$ Thin Film Capacitor in Low Electric Field Region (고유전 (Ba, Sr) $TiO_3$ 박막 커패시터의 저전계 영역에서의 전기전도기구)

  • The electrical conduction mechanism of high dielectric $(Ba,Sr)TiO_3$ (BST) thin film capacitor, which is the promising cell capacitor for high density DRAM, was investigated in low field region (<0.2MV/cm). It is known that the current in the low field region consists of dielectric relaxation current and leakage current. The current-time (I-t) measurement technique under the constant voltage was used for extracting successfully each current component. The conduction mechanism of the BST capacitor was deduced from the dependency of the current on the measurement temperature, strength of electric field, the polarity of applied electric field and post annealing process. From these results, it was suggested that the dielectric relaxation current and the leakage current are originated from the redistribution of internally trapped electron by hopping process and Pool-Frenkel conduction mechanism, respectively. It was also concluded that traps causing these two current components are due to oxygen vacancies within the BST film.

  • This study is to develop a mobile type environmental radiation measurement system for emergency response or environmental radiation monitoring of local governments near nuclear facilities. A mobile radiation measurement system can monitor radiation by field beyond the spatial constraints of a fixed environmental radiation monitor. If installed in local government infrastructure such as public transportation, environmental radiation can be monitored without additional manpower and measurement work. In addition, it is designed to enable monitoring and measurement of radiation from low to high doses as well as the environment in preparation for radioactive disasters such as nuclear power plant accidents. It is expected that this system will be utilized not only in normal times but also in the event of a radiation accident to improve the disaster prevention capabilities of local governments.

Low-Cost IoT Sensors for Flow Measurement in Open Channels: A Comparative Study of Laboratory and Field Performance

  • The use of low-cost IoT sensors for flow measurement in open channels has gained significant attention due to their potential to provide continuous and real-time data at a low cost. However, the accuracy and reliability of these sensors in real-world scenarios are not well understood. This study aims to compare the performance of low-cost IoT sensors in the laboratory and real-world conditions to evaluate their accuracy and reliability. Firstly, a low-cost IoT sensor was integrated with an IoT platform to acquire real-time flow rate data. The IoT sensors were calibrated in the laboratory environment to optimize their accuracy, including different types of low-cost IoT sensors (HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor & YF-S201 sensor) using an open channel prototype. After calibration, the IoT sensors were then applied to a real-world case study in the Dorim-cheon stream, where they were compared to traditional flow measurement methods to evaluate their accuracy.The results showed that the low-cost IoT sensors provided accurate and reliable flow rate data under laboratory conditions, with an error range of less than 5%. However, when applied to the real-world case study, the accuracy of the IoT sensors decreased, which could be attributed to several factors such as the effects of water turbulence, sensor drift, and environmental factors. Overall, this study highlights the potential of low-cost IoT sensors for flow measurement in open channels and provides insights into their limitations and challenges in real-world scenarios.

  • This study is to figure out the properties of the DC thermal plasma at low pressure. For this purpose, a temperature measurement system utilizing emission spectroscopy has been set up and its measurement method and results have been described. At low pressure, the plasma has shown drastic changes in its appearance. The discharge characteristics under low pressure have been measured and analyzed. The temperature of thermal plasma generated in this research has been ranged from 10, 000 K to 15, 000 K. Temperature has been observed to increase with the flow rate and magnetic field strength. The temperature characteristics at low pressure has been observed to coincide with the reported results.

  • Charged particle in the polymers is supposed to affect the electrical conduction and to lead them th dielectrical breakdown finally. So we measured the space charge distribution made by application of high electric field and evaluated the polarity of the charged particle affected on electrical conduction and space charge formed in the insulating materials by using temperature gradient thermally stimulated current measurement method(TG-TSC measurement). As a result, in the cross-linked polyethylene, A-peak was caused from dipole polarization, C-peak was caused from ionic space charge polarization and D-peak was injected trap hole. Also we found it crossible the evaluated the polarity of injected trap carrier and electron(or hole) of carrier trap in the cross-lined polyethylene. We found that ${\gamma}$-ray irradiated low density polyethylene had a relation to the electronic trap and we also could get the value of electric field distribution in the samples of which evaluation was available.

  • The purpose of this paper is the development of measurement algorithm for green-sheet based on the digital image processing technique. The Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic(LTCC) technology can be employed to produce multilayer circuits with the help of single tapes, which are used to apply conductive, dielectric and/or resistive pastes on. These single green-sheets must be laminated together and fired at the same time. Main function of the green-sheet film measurement algorithm is to measure the position and size of the punching hole in each single layer. The line scan camera coupled with motorized X-Y stage is used. In order to measure the entire film area using several scanning steps, an overlapping method is used.

  • Recently, many industrial electric vehicles have been developed using various ac-motor drive technologies including field oriented vector control. Generally, a magnetic encoder is installed to have resistance to vibration and dust, and it is cost-effective. However, it is difficult to get an accurate rotor speed for high performance of vector control, because a resolution of the magnetic encoder is low and its phase accuracy is poor. In order to overcome this hardware problem, this study proposes a speed measurement algorithm using moving window for low-resolution magnetic encoder. This algorithm is experimentally tested and successfully applied to traction application of industrial electric vehicle.

  • It is important to accurately predict structural responses to external excitations such as typhoons and earthquakes when designing structures for serviceability. One of the key procedures to predict reliable vibration responses is to evaluate accurate structural dynamic properties using finite element (FE) models, which properly represent the realistic behavior of buildings. In the case of historic masonry buildings, structural damage could also be caused by ambient vibrations or impacts. Therefore, the preservation plans of historic buildings for low-level vibrations or impacts should be provided by analyzing structural damages within serviceability levels. For this purpose, it is required to provide FE model construction and response analysis methods verified with field measurement data. In this research, long-term field measurement was performed for a cathedral and its dynamic properties were evaluated using measured data. Then, the model was calibrated based on the measured dynamic properties and an overall construction method for the masonry cathedral was proposed. Using the measured accelerations, the vibrations of the belfry were analyzed using the calibrated FE model and finally, the FE model for the cathedral was verified by comparing the measured accelerations with the modeled results.
