The water ejector is a low pressure high flow rate volumetric pump. It utilize the energy of a low mass flow, high velocity stream to induce a large mass flow, low velocity stream. In addition, it has a very good resistances to cavitation compared to the other type of pumps, and the maintenance cost is practically nil. There has been enormous energy loss to supply the upper part water of dam which has large potential energy as mere irrigation water in domestic multipurpose dam. The new type of energy saving system which developed through the present study can economizes over 950,000 kWh per year by mixing the upper part water of dam with the waste water by the large water ejector. This paper estimates the economical efficiency of the new type of irrigation water pumping system, and further more, represents the change of performance characteristics of large water ejector, which was adapted to this system, according to the fluctuation of upper water level that seasonally changes.
Concerns on environmental waste problems caused by non-biodegradable petrochemical-based plastic packaging materials as well as consumer's demand for high quality food products has caused an increasing interest in developing biodegradable packaging materials using annually renewable natural biopolymers such as polysaccharides and proteins. However, inherent shortcomings of natural polymer-based packaging materials such as low mechanical properties and low water resistance are causing a major limitation for their industrial use. By the way, recent advent of nanocomposite technology rekindled interests on the use of natural biopolymers in the food packaging application. Polymer nanocomposites, especially natural biopolymer-layered silicate nanocomposites, exhibit markedly improved packaging properties due to their nanometer size dispersion. These improvements include increased mechanical strength, decreased gas permeability, and increased water resistance. Additionally, biologically active ingredients can be added to impart the desired functional properties to the resulting packaging materials. Consequently, natural biopolymer-based nanocomposite packaging materials with bio-functional properties have huge potential for application in the active food packaging industry. In this review, recent advances in the preparation and characterization of natural biopolymer-based nanocomposite films, and their potential use in food packaging applications are addressed.
This study was carried out to get information on the cause of low photosynthesis ofKorean ginseng, a shade plant. Photosynthesis, water content, stomatal conductance and water potential in leaves of ginseng and soybean were investigated. The light intensity for maximum photosynthesis was about $300{\mu}E\;/\;m^2\;/\;s^2$ in ginseng and about $800{\mu}E\;/\;m^2\;/\;s^2$ in soybean, respectively Photosynthesis was remarkably lower in ginseng than in soybean under the same light intensity and $temperature(at\;20^{\circ}C)$. Photosynthesis of detached leaves was stopped in shorter time in ginseng than in soybean particularly at high $temperature(30^{\circ}C)$. The decreasing rate of water content in detached leaves was slower in ginseng than that of soybean, while the remained water level in the leaves was much higher in $ginseng(70{\sim}71%)\;than\;in\;soybean(50{\sim}53%)$ when photosynthesis was stopped. Water content had a positive correlationwith photosynthesis in both plants. However, at the same water level, the ratio of photosynthesis to water content was remarkably lower in ginseng than In soybean. The relationship between the stomatal conductance and photosynthesis was significantly positive correlation in the both plants. The ratio of photosynthesis to stomatal conductance was similar in booth plants below about 40 $mmol\;/\;m^2\;/\;s\;at\;20^{\circ}C$. Water potential was remarkably lower in ginseng than in soybean, and waterpotential had a significantly positive correlation with water content, stomatal conductance and photosynthesis in both plant. These results suggested that the low stomatal conductance and low water potential might cause the low photosynthesis in ginseng compared to soybean.

Inflow or outflow from the water treatment plant and the sewage water has potential energy. If this potential energy can be converted into electrical energy by water turbine generator, it can help to save energy because of the high capacity utilization. So recently, micro hydro power plant is reviewed in the water treatment facility. If generation capacity is low, induction generator is primarily used. If output capacity is low, generated power is supplied to the inside load. Induction generator can cause voltage drop by the inrush current at a start-up and requires reactive power for magnetization. In this study, we analyzed the flow of power and voltage variation against inrush current that occurs when the induction generator starts under the terms that loads of linear and non-linear of the water purification plant are used. Analysis results are that the voltage drop is within an allowable range and the power factor is slightly reduced by the need of reactive power.

The water shortage in mega cities in Asia, which face a rapid growth in urban population, is an outstanding problem. It is important, therefore, to accurately estimate the water balance in each city in order to use the limited water resources effectively. In this study, we estimated the potential water resources in し sixteen mega cities in Asia. The target cities were Delhi and Calcutta, India; Colombo, Sri Lanka; Dhaka, Bangladesh; Yangon, Myanmar; Bangkok, Thailand; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Singapore; Jakarta, Indonesia; Hanoi, Vietnam; Beijing and Hong Kong, the People's Republic of China; Seoul, the People's Republic of Korea; Manila, the Philippines, and Sapporo and Tokyo, Japan. The potential water resources were estimated by subtracting the actual evaporation from the amount of rainfall. The actual evaporation was estimated using the potential evaporation obtained by Hamon's equation which requires the air temperature and the possible hours of sunshine. When the results of Hamon's and Penman's evaporation equations were compared, a considerable error appeared in the low latitude region. The estimation using Hamon's equation was corrected with the linear regression line of Hamon's and Penman's equations. A classification of the land cover was carried out based on satellite photographs of the target cities, and the volume of surface runoff for each city was obtained using the runoff ratios which depended on the land cover. As a result, the potential water resources in the above mega cities in Asia were found to be greater than the world average. However, the actual water resources which are available for one person to use are probably very limited.
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), due to their excellent physical, chemical and mechanical properties and their ability to prepare new membranes with attractive properties, have found applications in water and wastewater technology. CNT functionalization, which involves the introduction of different types of functional groups into pure CNTs, improves the capabilities of CNT membranes for water and wastewater treatment. It turns out that CNT-based membranes have many advantages, including enhanced water permeability, high selectivity and anti-fouling properties. However, their full-scale application is still limited by their high cost. With their tremendous separation efficiency, low biofouling potential and ultra-high water flux, CNT membranes have the potential to be a leading technology in water treatment in the future, especially in desalination.
Electroflotation, which is used as an alternative to sedimentation, is a separation treatment process that uses small bubbles to remove low-density particulates. Making allowances for recent collision efficiency diagram based on trajectory analysis, it is necessary to tailor zeta potential of bubbles that collide with negatively charged particles. In this paper, the study was performed to investigate the effects of magnesium and aluminium ions on zeta potential of bubbles. And, it was studied to find out factors which could affect the positively charged bubbles. Consequently, zeta potential of bubbles increased both with higher concentration of metal ions and in the acidic pH value. And, a probable principle that explained the procedure of charge reversal could be a combined mechanism with both specific adsorption of hydroxylated species and laying down of hydroxide precipitate. It also depended on the metal ion concentration in the solution to display its capacity to control the bubble surface.
Zeta potential measurements of colloid particles suspended in a liquid are performed by a Zeta Meter developed. There are many applications of colloid stability in spray technology, paints, wastewater treatment, and pharmaceuticalse. Zeta potentials of charged particles are obtained by measuring the electrophoretic velocities of the particles using video enhanced microscopy and image analysis program. The values of zeta potential of polystyrene latex(PSL), $silica(SiO_2)$M, polyvinylidence difluoride(PVDF), silicon nitride, and alumina particles in deionized (DI) water were measured to be -40.5, -31.9, -25.2, -15.1 and -10.1mV, respectively. The particles having high zeta potential less than -20 mV are stable in DI water, because the double layers of them have strong repulsive forces mutually, and the particles having low zeta potential over -20mV are unstable due to Van Der Waals forces. Silica(>20nm), PSL, aluminum and PVDF particles were found to be stable that would remain separate and well disperse, while silicon nitride and alumina particles were found to be unstable that would gradually agglomerate in DI water.

Experimental studies were performed to investigate speciation and leaching potential of heavy metals(Cu, Cd, Pb Zn, Ni) in ten sediment samples collected from Nakdong River. Acid Volatile Sulfide (AVS) and Simultaneously Extractable Metals (SEM) measurements were used to estimate heavy metals that can be leached under anaerobic conditions. Sequential Extraction Procedure (SEP) and Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) were used to characterize speciation and leaching potential of heavy metals under aerobic conditions. The results show that total concentrations of Cu, Zn and Ni were relatively high in the sediments from points Seongseo industrial complex stream (upper stream) (D), Seongseo industrial complex stream (midstream) (E), Dalseo stream (F), and Nakdong river estuary (J), and that Cd concentrations were higher in all sampling points except for Goriung Bridge (G) and Soosan Bridge (H). SEM and AVS analyses reveal that samples from points Ilsun Bridge (A), Namgumi Bridge (C), and Soosan Bridge (H) have potential of heavy metals leaching, although leachable concentrations are relatively low. The leaching potential of heavy metals in other points was low because of higher concentrations of AVS than SEM. SEP results show that more than 50% of Cu, Zn and Ni were present in residual fraction, which means these metals are less amenable to leaching in anaerobic conditions. On the other hand, more than 50% of Pb and Cd were extracted during the first through third step of the SEP, which means substantial fraction of these metals can be leached upon changing of redox conditions. TCLP tests predict that leaching potential of heavy metals was generally low, which is consistent with the results obtained by AVS and SEM measurements.
