Deposition of Functional Organic and Inorganic Layer on the Cathode for the Improved Electrochemical Performance of Li-S Battery

  • The loss of the sulfur cathode material through dissolution of the polysulfide into electrolyte causes a significant capacity reduction of the lithium-sulfur cell during the charge-discharge reaction, thereby debilitating the electrochemical performance of the cell. We addressed this problem by using a chemical and physical approach called reduction of polysulfide dissolution through direct coating functional inorganic (graphene oxide) or organic layer (polyethylene oxide) on electrode, since the deposition of external functional layer can chemically interact with polysulfide and physically prevent the leakage of lithium polysulfide out of the electrode. Through this approach, we obtained a composite electrode for a lithium-sulfur battery (sulfur: 60%) coated with uniform and thin external functional layers where the thin external layer was coated on the electrode by solution coating and drying by a subsequent heat treatment at low temperature (${\sim}80^{\circ}C$). The external functional layer, such as inorganic or organic layer, not only alleviates the dissolution of the polysulfide electrolyte during the charging/discharging through physical layer formation, but also makes a chemical interaction between the polysulfide and the functional layer. As-formed lithium-sulfur battery exhibits stable cycling electrochemical performance during charging and discharging at a reversible capacity of 700~1187 mAh/g at 0.1 C (1 C = 1675 mA/g) for 30 cycles or more.

  • Development trend of modern HSDI diesel engine is now focusing on low fuel consumption and emission because of strong interest in global environmental protection. Two big branches of criteria for modern diesel engine development are down sizing and down speeding. Down sizing keeps engine operation condition to the direction of higher load and thus pursuing for better thermal efficiency. But this may cause degraded vehicle dynamic performance because of reduced back up torque. Down speeding keeps engine operation condition to the direction of slightly higher load and lower engine speed. Therefore reduction of back up torque can be limited within flat torque area. This study analyzed fuel economy effect of down speeding on a vehicle powered by HSDI diesel engine in aspect of engine friction work, intake and exhaust pumping work, exhaust hat loss and thermal loss of fuel leakage of fuel injection system. Contribution factor of each engine and vehicle related parameters under basic and down speeding condition were compared and work balance of down speeding during NEDC was analyzed.

  • In this paper, the electric properties of amorphous selenium specimen has been investigated. Amorphous selenium was thermally evaporated on the glass plate which had been deposited onto the interface by aluminium as an electrode. On the surface of the amorphous selenium, the aluminium electrode was deposited again in order to make an unit cell for dark current measurement. The dark current was measured while applying the bias voltage across the selenium layer in the range of 0V-2500 Volts. The leakage property of the amorphous selenium was significantly low at even high voltage range so it has good advantage as a X-ray receptor for digital radiography. For further study, the C-V curves measurement according to thicker amorphous selenium layer.

  • NAND형 charge trap flash (CTF) non-volatile memory (NVM) 소자가 30nm node 이하로 고집적화 되면서, 기존의 SONOS형 CTF NVM의 tunnel barrier로 쓰이는 SiO2는 direct tunneling과 stress induced leakage current (SILC)등의 효과로 인해 data retention의 감소 등 물리적인 한계에 이르렀다. 이에 따라 개선된 retention과 빠른 쓰기/지우기 속도를 만족시키기 위해서 tunnel barrier engineering (TBE)가 제안되었다. TBE NVM은 tunnel layer의 전위장벽을 엔지니어드함으로써 낮은 전압에서 전계의 민감도를 향상 시켜 동일한 두께의 단일 SiO2 터널베리어 보다 빠른 쓰기/지우기 속도를 확보할 수 있다. 또한 최근에 각광받는 high-k 물질을 TBE NVM에 적용시키는 연구가 활발히 진행 중이다. 본 연구에서는 Si3N4와 HfAlO (HfO2 : Al2O3 = 1:3)을 적층시켜 staggered의 새로운 구조의 tunnel barrier Capacitor를 제작하여 전기적 특성을 후속 열처리 온도와 방법에 따라 평가하였다. 실험은 n-type Si (100) wafer를 RCA 클리닝 실시한 후 Low pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD)를 이용하여 Si3N4 3 nm 증착 후, Atomic layer deposition (ALD)를 이용하여 HfAlO를 3 nm 증착하였다. 게이트 전극은 e-beam evaporation을 이용하여 Al를 150 nm 증착하였다. 후속 열처리는 수소가 2% 함유된 질소 분위기에서 $300^{\circ}C$$450^{\circ}C$에서 Forming gas annealing (FGA) 실시하였고 질소 분위기에서 $600^{\circ}C{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$까지 Rapid thermal annealing (RTA)을 각각 실시하였다. 전기적 특성 분석은 후속 열처리 공정의 온도와 열처리 방법에 따라 Current-voltage와 Capacitance-voltage 특성을 조사하였다.

Case Study on Failure of Rock Slope Caused by Filling Material of Clay (점토 충전물에 의한 암반사면 파괴사례 연구)

  • After heavy rainfall, It was occurred massive plane failure along bedding plane of shale in the center of rock slope. It was observed filling material and trace of underground water leakage around of the slope. We tried to find the cause for slope failure, and the result of examination showed that primary factors of the failure were low shear strength of clay filling material and water pressure formed within tension crack existed in the top of the slope. In this research, in order to examine the features of shear strength of filled rock joint, shear test of filled rock joint was conducted using of artificial filling material such as sand and clay..Also we made an investigation into the characteristics of shear strength with different thickness of filling materials.

  • Ventricular septal defect[VSD] associated with aortic regurgitation[AR] represents 2 to 7.5% of all VSD which is most common congenital heart disease. The aortic valve may by normal in infants with VSD, but the aortic regurgitation may be developed in these patients later. The aortic valve became fibrotic, thickened, deformed and prolapsed, so these late deformities require to be corrected with plication, valvuloplasty or aortic valve replacement [AVR]. There are some controversy between the early repair of VSD alone and the late repair of VSD and aortic valve till now. From December 1971 to August 1983, we had experienced 24 patients of VSD associated with AR which constitute 6.5% of our total patients with VSD. The VSD was subpulmoary [type I] in 14[58.3%], subcristal [type II] in 8[33.3%], atrioventricular canal type[type III] in 1, and combine of type I and II in 1. Patch repair of VSD was made in 15 patients and direct suture of small VSD in 9.14 patients had aortic plication of valvuloplasty and 9 had AVR accompanying VSD repair, and 1 patient had VSD closure alone. The postoperative courses of these patients were uneventful except in some cases. A patient who was undertaken AVR with Starr-Edwards ball valve and VSD closure, died due to left ventricular failure and low cardiac output syndrome. Follow up shows, in 14 patients with aortic plication or valvuloplasty, AR was developed in 9. In 9 AVR, there were two later complications which were paravalvular leakage in one and re-AVR due to subacute bacterial endocarditis in another.

  • Dye-sensitized solar cell(DSSC) have been considered one of the promising alternatives to conventional solar cells, because of their low cost, easy fabrication and relatively high energy conversion efficiency. However, although the cell offers reasonable efficiency at least 11%, the use of a liquid electrolyte placed technological challenges for achieving the desired durability and operational stability of the cell. In order to prevent or reduce electrolyte leakage considerable efforts have been made, such as p-type semiconductor or organic hole-transport material that better mechanical properties and simple fabrication processes. In this work, we synthesized solid-state electrolyte containing LiI and KI metal salt with starting materials of poly ethylene oxide to substitute liquid electrolyte enhance the ionic conductivity and solar conversion efficiency. Li+ leads to faster diffusion and higher efficiency and K+ leading to higher ionic conductivity. The efficiency of poly ethylene oxide/LiI system electrolyte is 1.47% and poly ethylene oxide/potassium electrolyte is 1.21%. An efficiency of 3.24% is achieved using solid-state electrolyte containing LiI and KI concentrations. The increased solar conversion efficiency is attributed to decreased crystallinity in the polymer that leads to enhanced charge transfer.

  • Metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs)의 critical dimension (CD)가 sub 45 nm로 줄어듬에 따라 기존에 gate dielectric으로 사용하고 있는 SiO2에서 발생되는 high gate leakage current 때문에 새로운 high dielectric constant (k) 물질들이 연구되기 시작하였다. 여러 가지 high-k 물질 중에서, aluminum-oxide (Al2O3)는 높은 dielectric constant (~10)와 전자 터널링 barrier height (~2eV) 등을 가지기 때문에 많은 연구가 되고 있다. 그러나 Al2O3를 anisotropic한 patterning을 하기 위해 주로 사용되고 있는 halogen-based 플라즈마 식각 과정에서 나타나는 Al2O3와 하부 layer간의 낮은 식각 selectivity 뿐만 아니라 표면에 발생되는 defect, stoichiometry modification, roughness 변화 등의 많은 문제점들로 인하여 device performance가 감소하기 때문에 이를 해결하기 위한 많은 연구들이 진행중이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 실리콘 기판위의 atomic layer deposition (ALD)로 증착된 Al2O3를 BCl3/Ar 중성빔을 이용하여 원자층 식각한 후 식각 특성을 분석해 보았다. Al2O3 표면을 BCl3로 absorption시킨 후 Ar 중성빔으로 desorption 시키는 과정에서 volatile한 aluminum-chlorides와 boron oxychloride가 형성되어 layer by layer로 제거됨을 관찰 할 수 있었다.

Development of 3-axis Loadcell for Measuring the Side Force of MPV Using Design of Experiment (실험계획법을 이용한 다목적 차량의 측면하중 측정을 위한 3축 로드셀 개발)

  • This paper represents the development of 3-axises loadcell for measuring the side-force of suspension module of MPV(Multi Purposed Vehicle). The side force causes the failure of damper, such as leakage. The loadcell was developed using strain gauges, and the Wheastone bridge circuit to compensate for the cross-talk between the each axises and the measurement error by temperature. Structure analysis of loadcell was accomplished with FEM(Finite Element Method) to optimize the location of strain gages. The design optimization for important factors that have an effect on performance of loadcell was accomplished by using DOE(Design of Experiment). Loadcell was produced and successfully tested, showing good sensitivity and low cross-talk. The cross-talk of the developed loadcell is bellow 5%. The load history was measured at proving ground. The maximum side-force, the longitudinal force, and vertical force of MPV are 4.2 kN, 8.0 kN, and 17.0 kN, respectively, at Belgian road.
