In induction machine drive without a speed sensor, the estimation of the motor flux and speed often becomes deteriorated at low speeds with low back EMF. Our analysis shows that, in addition to the state resistance variation, the estimated value of field orientation angle is often corrupted by accumulative errors from the integration of voltage variables at motor terminals that have low signal/noise ratio at low frequencies. A repetitive loop path of integration in the feedback can amplify this type of error, thus speeding up the degradation process. The control system runs into information starvation due to the loss of correct field orientation. The machine's spiral vectors are controlled only in a reduced dimension in this situation. A novel control scheme is developed to improve the control performance of motor's current, torque and speed at low frequencies. The scheme gains a full-dimensional vector control and is less sensitive to the combined effect of the error sources at the low frequencies. Experimental tests demonstrate promising performances are achievable even below 0.5 Hz.

This paper presents the result of a study on the starter control for a turbo generator. Because a starter in gear box type turbo-generator system is composed of gearbox and brush DC motor, it should be replaced with High Speed Generator(HSG)) in HSG type Turbo-generator. There-ore, it is necessary to design a new starting algorithm and starter. In gearbox type system, brush DC motor is rotated to the designed speed using low voltage-high current battery power. After brush DC motor speed is increased to several times by gearbox, gas turbine engine can be rotated to designed starting speed. If we implement a starter with High Speed Generator(HSG), it is necessary to drive high-speed generator to high-speed motor. High-speed generator with permanent magnet on rotor has a low leakage inductance fur driving high-speed rotation, and it is necessary high DC link voltage for inverter when High-speed generator is driven to high speed. This paper presents result of development of the boost converter for converting high voltage DC from low battery voltage and design of the inverter for controlling a high frequency current to be injected to motor winding. Also, we show performance of the designed starter by driving the turbo generator.
Direct torque control (DTC) scheme provides a very quick torque response without the complex field-orientation block and inner current regulation loop. DTC is known as an appropriate scheme for high power induction motet drives because it can be used at lower switching frequency. There are two major drawbacks with the application of DTC schemes : one is large current harmonics due to flux drooping in a low speed range, the other is that the inverter switching frequency is varying according to motor parameters and operating speed. Switching devices in the power electronics drives should be supported for relatively high switching frequency. In this paper, a P-type fuzzy controller to realize the variable switching sector scheme and a PID-type fuzzy switching frequency regulator are adopted. A meaningful contribution of this paper is to propose a simple realization scheme of the fuzzy switching frequency regulator. Simulation results show the effectiveness of those propositions.

The demand of a three phase PWM inverter for the purpose of power control or grid-connecting is increasing. This inverter is connected to a grid through an L-filter or LCL-filter to reduce the harmonics caused by switching. An LCL-filter can reduce the harmonic of a low switching frequency and generate a satisfactory level of grid side current with a relatively low-inductance than an L-filter. But the additional poles caused by the LC part affects a stability problem due to induced resonance of the system. This paper presents a compensation method using a power theory to improve performance, the designed LCL-filter system and to reduce the stability problems caused by resonance. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by simulations and experiments.

This paper presents a new full-bridge soft switching PWM DC-DC converter circuit topology that adding two switcher, two lossless snubber quasi-resonance capacity, two diode to power source for general welding machine. This half bridge soft switching Is low voltage hight current output that first coil current is smaller than second coil current in high frequency transformer can be obtained with decreasing path loss in conventional DC bus line switcher. As it operate ZCS/ZVS in full range, high frequency, high efficiency and high output are implemented at low voltage and high DC current switching power supplies. All of this items are got from simulation and the result of experiment. If make up for the weak points of this proposed circuit, it will be used more easily for next generation TIG, MIG and MAG type of arc-welding machine.

Fluctuating wind conditions necessitate the use of a variable speed wind turbine (VSWT) with a AC/DC/AC converter scheme in order to harvest the maximum power from the wind and to decouple the synchronous generator voltage and frequency from the grid voltage and frequency. In this paper, a combination of a three phase diode bridge rectifier (DBR) and a modified topology of the diode clamped multilevel inverter (DCMLI) has been considered as an AC/DC/AC converter. A control strategy has been proposed for the DCMLI to achieve the objective of grid interface of a wind power system together with local load compensation. A novel fixed frequency current control method is proposed for the DCMLI based on the level shifted multi carrier PWM for achieving the required control objectives with equal and uniform switching frequency operation for better control and thermal management with the modified DCMLI. The condition of the controller gain is derived to ensure the operation of the DCMLI at the fixed frequency of the carrier. The converter current injected into the distribution grid is controlled in accordance with the wind power availability. In addition, load compensation is performed as an added facility in order to free the source currents being fed from the grid of harmonic distortion, unbalance and a low power factor even though the load may be unbalanced, non-linear and of a poor power factor. The results are validated using PSCAD/EMTDC simulation studies.
This paper presents a new circuit topology of active edge resonant snubbers assisted half-bridge soft switching PWM inverter type DC-DC high power converter for DC bus feeding power plants. The proposed DC-DC power converter is composed of a typical voltage source-fed half-bridge high frequency PWM inverter with a high frequency planar transformer link in addition to input DC busline side power semiconductor switching devices for PWM control scheme and parallel capacitive lossless snubbers. The operating principle of the new DC-DC converter treated here is described by using switching mode equivalent circuits, together with its unique features. All the active power switches in the half-bridge arms and input DC buslines can achieve ZCS turn-on and ZVS turn-off commutation transitions. The total turn-off switching losses of the power switches can be significantly reduced. As a result, a high switching frequency IGBTs can be actually selected in the frequency range of 60 kHz under the principle of soft switching. The performance evaluations of the experimental setup are illustrated practically. The effectiveness of this new converter topology is proved for such low voltage and large current DC-DC power supplies as DC bus feeding from a practical point of view.
In a parallel operation of UPS, there are two types of circulating currents between UPS. One is the low order circulating current with a fundamental frequency caused by the amplitude and phase differences of UPS output voltages, and the other is the harmonic circulating current with PWM switching frequency caused by non-synchronized PWM waveforms among UPS. The elimination of the low order circulating current is essential for optimal load sharing in parallel operations of UPS, which can be accomplished by the phase and magnitude control at each UPS. The harmonic circulating current may cause troubles and deteriorate in performance of the controller for optimal load sharing in parallel operation of UPS. This paper presents a PWM synchronizing method to eliminate the harmonic circulation current in parallel operation of UPS. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme has been investigated and verified through experiments by a 50kVA UPS.

AC/AC power conversion is widely used to feed AC loads with a variable voltage and/or a variable frequency from a constant voltage constant frequency power grid or to connect critical loads to an unreliable power supply while delivering a very balanced and accurate sinusoidal voltage system of constant amplitude and frequency. The load specifications will clearly impose the requirements for the inverter stage of the power converter, while wider ranges of choices are available for the rectifier. This paper investigates the utilization of a buck-type current source rectifier as the active front-end stage of an AC/AC converter for applications that require an adjustable DC-link voltage as well as elimination of the low-frequency common mode voltage. The proposed solution is to utilize a combination of two or more zero current vectors in the Space Vector Modulation (SVM) technique for Current Sources Rectifiers (CSR).
