  • Experiment was performed to study the heat transfer characteristics in 27 kinds of 15 : 1 scale models of multi-louverred fin heat exchangers with a wide range of variables(R $e_{Lp}$ =100~1, 800, $L_p$/F$p$=0.3~0.9, $\theta$=20$^{\circ}$~40$^{\circ}$). Thermofoil heaters were used to heat the louver fins and the local average Nusselt number for each louver in the louver array was obtained at constant wall temperature conditions. Correlations are developed to predict the heat transfer characteristics and drag coefficients. Generally, the heat transfer characteristics in the multi-louvered fins is shown to be similar to those of the laminar heat transfer on a flat plate. As the Reynolds number, the louver pitch to fin pitch ratio$L_p$/F$p$and the louver angle($\theta$) increase respectively, the average Nusselt number increases, but the variation of average Nusselt number as a function of the louver angle is smaller than that as a function of the louver pitch to fin pitch ratio. In case of$L_p$/F$p$ <0.5, the average Nusselt number of the 3rd louver is especially lower than the others, it is expected that it is due to the flow structure such as a recirculation flow and a flow separation.

  • Experimental studies were performed to determine the characteristics of flow structure and pressure drop in 15 : 1 scale models of multi-louvered fin heat exchanger in a wide range of variables($L_P/F_P=0.5{\sim}1.23$, ${\theta}=27^{\circ}{\sim}37^{\circ}$, $Re_{LP}=50{\sim}2000$). Flow structure inside the louvered fin was analyzed by smoketube method and new correlations on flow efficiency and drag coefficient were suggested. The new definition for flow efficiency, which modifies the existing flow efficiency, can predict the flow efficiency in the range above mentioned and is represented as a function of Reynolds number, louver pitch to fin pitch ratio, louver angle at low Reynolds number. Drag coefficient which is defined here is a function of Reynolds number, louver pitch to fin pitch ratio, louver angle below critical Reynolds number, and can be represented by a function of louver pitch to fin pitch ratio only above the critical Reynolds number.

  • HRSG(Heat Recovery Steam Generator) building is large enclosed structure included various heat sources. This building needs to appropriately keep internal air temperature for worker's safety and operability of control devices. In this study, ventilation analysis is performed to find proper ventilation method for temperature control. Ventilation analysis is applied to entire internal space of the building with standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model and enhanced wall treatment because of large size of the structure. And the ventilation method is considered natural and forced convection with two louver structures which has damper or not. Louver structure affect directly air circulation in near HRSG and lower region of the building. Forced ventilation provides strong inertial force which cause upward airflow. From the analysis, it is found that design requirement for internal air temperature can be satisfied by forced ventilation method with louver structure without damper.

  • Drag forces on a rectangular louvered panel, both as a free-standing structure and as a component in a generic low-rise building model, were obtained in a wind tunnel study. When tested in a building model, the porosity ratio of the wall opposite the louvered panel was varied to investigate its effect on the loading of the louvered panel. Both mean and pseudo-steady drag coefficients were obtained. Comparisons with the provisions for porous walls in contemporary loading standards indicate that for some opposite wall porosity ratios, the standards specify significantly different wind loads (larger and smaller) than obtained from this wind tunnel study.

  • Faced with the international issue of environmental problems from global warming and energy consumption, the Korean Government has made many efforts on reducing energy and $CO_2$ emission under the motto of "Low-Carbon Green Growth". In order to reduce energy in the building sector, severe design standards and regulations on saving energy in new buildings have been established. Now, it is necessary to focus on deteriorated buildings where applications of energy saving designs and techniques have been insufficient, for maximizing energy saving in the building sector. Specially, it is very important to reduce energy through the remodeling process at deteriorated school buildings which were built over 20 years ago and sharply changed into the excessive energy consumption structure from new educational curricula. Thus, this paper examined the effects of potential factors to reduce energy at deteriorated elementary school buildings using the energy simulation on the Visual DOE 4.0 program. Among applied factors of insulations, southern louver, window's SHGC, indoor setup temperature, and system efficiency, all factors except window's SHGC turned out contribute to reduce energy at the deteriorated elementary school buildings, compared with the baseline energy performance.
