A new modified lossless intra-coding method based on a cross residual transform is applied to HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding). The HEVC standard including a multi-directional spatial prediction method to reduce spatial redundancy encodes the pixels in a PU (Prediction Unit) by using neighboring pixels. In the new modified lossless intra-coding method, the spatial prediction is performed by pixel-based DPCM but is implemented by block-based manner by using cross residual transform on the HEVC standard. The experimental results show that the new lossless intra-coding method reduces the bit rate of approximately 8.4% in comparison with the lossless-intra coding method in the HEVC standard and the proposed method results in slightly better compression ratio than the JPEG2000 lossless coding.
In this paper, we proposed a new lossless image compression algorithm. Lossless image compression has been used in the field that requires the accuracy and precision. Thus, application areas using medical unaging, prepress unaging, image archival systems, precious artworks to be preserved, and remotely sensed images require lossless compression. The compression ratio from lossless image compression has not been satisfactory, thus far. So, new method of lossless image compression has been investigated to get better compression efficiency. We have compared the compression results with the most typical compression methods such as CALIC and JPEG-LS. CALIC has shown the best compression-ratio among the existing lossless coding methods at the cost of the extensive complexity by three pass algorithm. On the other hand, JPEG-LS's compression-ratio is not higher than CALIC, but was adopted as an international standard of ISO because of the low complexity and fast coding process. In the proposed method, we adopted an adaptive predictor that can exploit the characteristics of individual images, and an adaptive arithmetic coding with multiple probability models. As a result, the proposed algorithm showed 5% improvement in compression efficiency in comparison with JPEG-LS and showed comparable compression ratio with CALIC.

This paper proposes a novel lossless coding scheme for Bayer color filter array (CFA) images which are generally used as internal data of color digital cameras having a single image sensor. The scheme employs a block-adaptive prediction method to exploit spatial and spectral correlations in local areas containing different color signals. In order to allow adaptive prediction suitable for the respective color signals, four kinds of linear predictors which correspond to 2 ${\times}$ 2 samples of Bayer CFA are simultaneously switched block-by-block. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme outperforms other state-of-the-art lossless coding schemes in terms of coding efficiency for Bayer CFA images.
Pilot-based coding (PBC), which is used for lossless bit rate reduction of audio coding, has been recently proposed for MPEG Surround. We propose extended PBC for further lossless bit rate reduction of MPEG Surround. Extended PBC selects the number of pilots depending on the parameter band number and the type of spatial parameter. It then encodes the pilots and the relevant difference data. Experiments show that extended PBC is more effective than the original PBC, especially for high bit rate modes, with a negligible complexity increase on the decoder side.
This paper describes an effective technique for lossless inter-frame video coding sequences based on a JPEG2000 CODEC. This technique has diminished the compression rate for lossless video coding. In this proposed method, firstly a predicted image for an in- put image is generated by motion estimation(ME), and then a difference image between the input image and the predicted image is calculated, and finally the difference image becomes an input image to a JPEG2000 encoder for lossless coding. Simulation results show the effectiveness of this method.
This paper proposes a novel algorithm for hybrid lossless audio coding, which employs integer discrete cosine transform. The proposed algorithm divides the input signal into frames of a proper length, decorrelates the framed data using the integer DCT and finally entropy-codes the frame data. In particular, the adaptive Golomb-Rice coding method used for the entropy coding selects an optimal option which gives the best compression efficiency. Since the proposed algorithm uses integer operations, it significantly improves the computation speed in comparison with an algorithm using real or floating-point operations. When the coding algorithm is implemented in hardware, the system complexity as well as the power consumption is remarkably reduced. Finally, because each frame is independently coded and is byte-aligned with respect to the frame header, it is convenient to move, search, and edit the coded data.
We propose a pilot-based coding (PBC) scheme for lossless bit rate reduction of parametric stereo (PS) in enhanced aacPlus. It uses PBC in addition to the existing frequency and time differential coding to encode and decode PS parameter indexes. We also design optimal Huffman codebooks (HCBs) for PBC in the proposed scheme. Experiments show that the proposed scheme is superior to the original coding scheme, where both the new coding structure and the optimal HCBs contribute to the bit rate reduction.
H.264/MPEG-4 AVC is jointly developed by ITU-T and ISO/IEC. It provides efficient coding efficiency compared with previous video standards. It reduced the bit rate by approximately $30%{\sim}70%$ while providing the same or better image quality. And, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC supports not only lossy coding but also lossless coding. In this paper, we suggest a method to improve lossless coding efficiency. Proposed method is based on Intra residual DPCM, it has same effect with the prediction from spatially nearest pixel. Also, proposed method does not broken decoder pipe-line. Experimental results, the method reduced the bit rate by approximately 12% in comparison with the H.264 Intra lossless coding. As a result, it is adopted into the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Advanced 4:4:4 profile.

In the lossless step of Lattice Vector Quantization(LVQ), the lattice codewords produced at quantization step are enumerated into radius sequence and index sequence. The radius sequence is run-length coded and then entropy coded, and the index sequence is represented by fixed length binary bits. As bit rate increases, the index bit linearly increases and deteriorates the coding performances. To reduce the index bits across the wide range of bit rates, we developed a novel lattice enumeration algorithm adopting the set partitioning method. The proposed enumeration method shifts down large index values to smaller ones and so reduces the index bits. When the proposed lossless coding scheme is applied to a wavelet based image coding, the proposed scheme achieves more than 10% at bit rates higher than 0.3 bits/pixel over the conventional lossless coding method, and yields more improvement as bit rate becomes higher.

Portable multi-media products which can service the highest audio-quality by using lossless audio codec has been released and the international lossless codecs, MPEG-4 audio lossless coding(ALS) and MPEG-4 scalable lossless coding(SLS), were standardized by MPEG in 2006. The simple profile of MPEG-4 ALS, it supports up to stereo, was defined by MPEG in 2009. The lossless audio codec should have low-complexity in stereo to be widely used in portable multi-media products. But the previous researches of MPEG-4 ALS have focused on an improvement of compression ratio, a complexity reduction in multi-channels coding, and a selection of linear prediction coefficients(LPCs) order. In this paper, the complexity and compression ratio of MPEG-4 ALS encoder is analyzed in simple profile of MPEG-4 ALS, the method to reduce a complexity of MPEG-4 ALS encoder is proposed. Based on an analysis of complexity of MPEG-4 ALS encoder, the complexity of short-term prediction filter of MPEG-4 ALS encoder is reduced by using the low-complexity filter that is proposed in previous research to reduce the complexity of MPEG-4 ALS decoder. Also, we propose a joint coding decision method, it reduces the complexity and keeps the compression ratio of MPEG-4 ALS encoder. In proposed method, the operation of joint coding is decided based on the relation between cross-correlation of residual and compression ratio of joint coding. The performance of MPEG-4 ALS encoder that has the method and low-complexity filter is evaluated by using the MPEG-4 ALS conformance test file and normal music files. The complexity of MPEG-4 ALS encoder is reduced by about 24% by comparing with MPEG-4 ALS reference encoder, while the compression ratio by the proposed method is comparable to MPEG-4 ALS reference encoder.
