In this paper, we consider the problem of existence of conformal metrics with prescribed mean curvature on the unit ball of ${\mathbb{R}}^n$, $n{\geq}3$. Under the assumption that the order of flatness at critical points of prescribed mean curvature function H(x) is ${\beta}{\in}[1,n-2]$, we give precise estimates on the losses of the compactness and we prove new existence result through an Euler-Hopf type formula.

This study investigated a compact regenerative evaporative cooler (REC). To achieve practical applications of an REC, it is very important to consider the compactness as well as the cooling performance. Therefore, a prototype of the REC was designed and fabricated to improve the compactness by reducing the length through the insertion of fins in both the dry and wet channels. The REC prototype was tested in terms of performance evaluation under various operating conditions. An analytical model was also developed to analyze the effects of the axial conduction through the solid body of the REC, the wetness of the surface in the wet channel, and the thermal capacity of the evaporation water flow. The model was validated by comparing the results of a simulation with experimental data. The numerical simulation was based on the model to analyze the performance of the REC and to suggest methods to improve the cooling performance of the REC. Finally, the performance of the present REC was compared to that obtained in previous experimental studies. The results showed that the REC prototype in the present study is the most compact and achieves the highest cooling performance.

In this paper, we present the design method for a low-pass type inverter, which can effectively suppress the spurious response associated with band-pass filters. The inverter has a length of ${\lambda}/4$ and employs not only a stepped-impedance configuration but also asymmetrical and bending structures in order to improve frequency selectivity and compactness. The inverter is applied as an impedance/admittance inverter to the ultra-wideband (UWB) band-pass filter. The UWB band-pass filter configuration is based on a stub band-pass filter consisting of quarter-wavelength impedance inverters and shunt short-circuited stubs ${\lambda}/4$ in length. The asymmetrical stepped-impedance low-pass type inverter improves not only the spurious responses, but also the return loss characteristics associated with a UWB band-pass filter, while a compact size is maintained. The UWB band-pass filter using the proposed inverters is fabricated and tested. The measured results show excellent attenuation characteristics at out-band frequencies, which exceed 18 dB up to 39 GHz. The insertion loss within the pass-band (from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz) is below 1.7 dB, the return loss is below 10 dB, and the group delay is below 1 ns.

The rotary-vane compressor has become one of the most successful types of compressors because of its mechanical reliability, compactness, and adaptability to moderately high-speed operation in virtually an unlimited range of sizes. However recently, the depletion of the ozone layer due to the current refrigerant(R22) has been getting worse, and it is one of the world's pressing issues. In this paper, we will discuss the use of R410a in the compressor of a room air-conditioner as an alternative refrigerant and air-conditioning system to R22, since R410a has greater refrigerant characteristics than R22. Miniaturization of the rotary compressor for the new refrigerant and air-conditioning system is also possible, which reduces the prime cost of production, hence R410a is naturally a better refrigerant. But to apply the new HFC refrigerant system in refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, a significant redesign of the current refrigerant system is also required, because as the refrigeration changes, lubrication characteristics vary. Close attention must be paid to friction force and energy loss due to friction and wear at many sliding areas.

Optimal design of an air-to-liquid finned plate heat exchanger is considered theoretically in this study. Based on existing correlations for the pressure loss and the heat transfer in channel flows, the optimal configuration of the plate heat exchanger including the optimal plate pitch and the optimal fin pitch is obtained to maximize the heat transfer within the limit of the pressure drop for a given flow depth of the plate heat exchanger. It is found that the optimal fin pitch is about one ninth of the optimal plate pitch. In the optimal configuration, the flow and thermal condition in the channels is just at the boundary between the laminar developing and laminar fully developed states. It is also found when reducing the flow depth of plate heat exchangers for compactness, the heat transfer performance can be maintained exactly the same if the geometric parameters such as the plate thickness, plate pitch, fin thickness, and fin pitch are reduced proportional to the square root of the flow depth as long as the flow keeps laminar within the heat exchangers.
The rolling piston type rotary compressor has been widely used for refrigeration and air-conditioning systems due to its compactness and high-speed operation. The present analysis is part of a research program directed toward maximizing the advantages of refrigerant compressors. The study of lubrication characteristics in the critical sliding component is essential for the design of refrigerant compressors. Therefore, theoretical investigation of the lubrication characteristics of a rotary compressor being used for refrigeration and air-conditioning systems was investigated. The Newton-Raphson method was used for a partial elastohydrodynamic lubrication analysis between the vane and the rolling piston of a rotary compressor. The results demonstrated that the vane thickness and the center line position of the vane significantly influenced the friction force and the energy loss between the vane and the rolling piston.

A suspended microstrip line structure over mushroom-like SMPs is designed and is applied to a dual-frequency and dual-polarization microstrip patch antenna. This structure has a distinctive and sharp rejection band and provides near 0 dB insertion loss outside the rejection band. Applying the structure to the conventional DFDP antenna enhanced the isolation between the two ports more than 20 dB. The structure is expected to have a wide range of applications in antennas and filters due to its compactness and integrability in circuits.

The rolling piston type rotary compressor has become one of the most successful types because of its compactness and high-speed operation. The analysis described here is part of a research program directed toward maximising these advantages in refrigerant compressors. The study of lubrication characteristics in the critical sliding component is essential for the design of refrigerant compressors. Therefore, theoretical investigation of the lubrication characteristics of rotary compressor for refrigeration & air-conditioning system is studied. And the Newton-Raphson method is used for the EHI. analysis between vane and rolling piston in the rotary compressor. The results show that the rotational speed of shaft and the discharge pressure have an important effect upon the friction force and the energy loss between vane and rolling piston. This results give important basic data for the further lubrication analysis and design of the rotary compressor.

Highly detailed geometric models are rapidly becoming commonplace in computer graphics and other applications. These complex models, which is often represented as complex1 triangle meshes, mainly suffer from the vast memory requirement for real-time manipulation of arbitrary geometric shapes without loss of data. Various techniques have been devised to challenge these problems in views of geometric processing, not a representation scheme. This paper proposes the new mesh structure for the compact representation and the efficient handling of the highly complex models. To verify the compactness and the efficiency, the memory requirement of our representation is first investigated and compared with other existing representations. And then we analyze the time complexity of our data structure by the most critical operation, that is, the enumeration of the so-called one-ring neighborhood of a vertex. Finally, we evaluate some elementary modeling functions such as mesh smoothing, simplification, and subdivision, which is to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of our mesh structure in the context of the geometric modeling and processing.
