  • In this paper, a new modeling methodology of thin film bulk acoustic resonate. (TFBAR) is presented. The new model is started from the Mason model that is a good model to explain the physical characteristics of TFBAR. After simplifying the modified Mason model added dielectric loss term to conventional Mason model, the improved Modified Butterworth-Van Dyke (MBVD) model similar to conventional MBVD model is complete. The proposed model has three optimization variables those are half of the MBVD model. As a result, the curve fittings for the measured data are faster and smarter than any other model.

  • A new method for efficient modeling of the Head-Related Transfer Functions(HRTF's) without loss of any directional information is proposed. In this paper, the HRTF's were empirically measured in a real room and modeled as the ARMA models with common AR coefficients and different MA coefficients. To assess the validity of the proposed ARMA model, psychophysical tests show that the proposed ARMA model, in comparison with the conventional MA model, requires a small number of parameters to represent empirical HRTF's and improves the back-to-front confusions in sound-field localization. Thus, significant simplifications in the implementations of sound-field synthesis systems could be obtained by using the proposed ARMA model.

  • In many cases, fuzzy modeling has a defect that the design procedure cannot be theoretically justified. To overcome this difficulty, we suggest a new design method for fuzzy model by combining genetic algorithm(GA) and mush set theory. GA, which has the advantages is optimization, and rule base. However, it is some what time consuming, so are introduce rough set theory to the rule reduction procedure. As a result, the decrease of learning time and the considerable rate of rule reduction is achieved without loss of useful information. The preposed algorithm is composed of three stages; First stage is quasi-optimization of fuzzy model using GA(coarse tuning). Next the obtained rule base is reduced by rough set concept(rule reduction). Finally we perform re-optimization of the membership functions by GA(fine tuning). To check the effectiveness of the suggested algorithm, examples for time series prediction are examined.

  • Variable displacement vane-type oil pumps represent one of the most innovative pump types for industrial applications, especially for engine lubrication systems. This paper presents a complete and accurate mathematical model for a typical variable displacement vane-type oil pump. Firstly, its theoretical model is revised. Secondly, an analysis of power loss factors of this pump type is carefully investigated to optimize the modeling accuracy. Finally, the estimated pump performance using the complete pump model is verified by numerical simulations in comparison with the practical tests.

  • Finite element vibration analysis of the trial 5x5 partial fuel assembly in the still water was performed using the substructure method. ANSYS software was used as a finite element modeling and modal analysis tool. The calculated natural frequencies of the partial fuel assembly were more consistent with the experimental results for the identical test model compared to the much larger solid model. This modeling technique can be utilized for the fuel assembly dynamic behavior analysis under normal operation, seismic and loss-of-coolant-accident analysis.

  • To develop an analytic method of combustion characteristics in a small sized and single cylinder type diesel engine for a power tiller, 1) the theoritical analysis of combustion gas in engine cylinder was performed based on thermoscience and 2) the computer program which could be used to calculate those values of the apparent burning rate, the heat loss, the gas temperature and the fuel-air equivalence ratio with the experimental cylinder pressure data, was developed. This method would provide the practical and quantative data for the diesel combustion process. Through the use of this method, following details would be obtained: 1) the application in the modeling of combustion process without detail knowledeg of combustion process, 2) the basis for the complete modeling of diesel engine, and 3) the basic information for the design of combustion chamber by the prediction of engine performance.

  • Pressure wave propagation in the discharge piping with a sparger submerged in a water pool, following the opening of a safety relief valve, is analyzed. To predict the pressure transient behavior, a RELAP5/MOD3 code is used. The applicability of the RELAP5 code and the adequacy of the present modeling scheme are confirmed by simulating the applicable experiment on a water hammer with voiding. As a base case, the modeling scheme was used to calculate the wave propagation inside a vertical pipe with sparger holes and submerged within a water pool. In addition, the effects on wave propagation of geometric factors, such as the loss coefficient, the pipe configuration, and the subdivision of sparger pipe, are investigated. The effects of inflow conditions, such as water slug inflow and the slow opening of a safety relief valve are also examined.

  • Thermal fluid mixing behavior during a postulated medium-size hot leg break loss of coolant accident is analyzed for the international comparative assessment study on pressurized thermal shock (PTS-ICAS) proposed by OECD-NEA. The applicability of RELAP5 code to analyze thermal fluid mixing behavior is evaluated through a simple modeling relevant to the problem constraints. Based on the calculation result, the onset of Thermal stratification is investigated using Theofanous's empirical correlation. Sensitivity calculations using a fine node model and crossflow model are also performed to evaluate the modeling capability on multi-dimensional characteristics related to thermal fluid mixing.

  • The occurrence of ferroresonance in electrical systems including nonlinear inductors such as transformers will bring a lot of malicious damages. The intense ferromagnetic saturation of the iron core is the most influential factor in ferroresonance that makes nonsinusoidal current and voltage. So the nonlinear behavior modeling of the magnetic core is the most important challenge in the study of ferroresonance. In this paper, the ferroresonance phenomenon is investigated in a single phase transformer using the finite element method and considering the hysteresis loop. Jiles-Atherton (JA) inverse vector model is used for modeling the hysteresis loop, which provides the accurate nonlinear model of the transformer core. The steady-state analysis of ferroresonance is done while considering different capacitors in series with the no-load transformer. The accurate results from copper losses and iron losses are extracted as the most important specifications of transformers. The validity of the simulation results is confirmed by the corresponding experimental measurements.

  • We calculate optical properties of guided modes of a hybrid-guiding photonic crystal fiber. The design and modeling of such hybrid-guiding PCF is made by replacing air holes with inserts of high refractive index material layer by layer in order. The optical properties such as mode intensity profile, mode dispersion, optical birefringence, confinement loss, and chromatic dispersion during transition of the guiding mechanism are analyzed and discussed. The guided modes in the hybrid-guiding region are also compared with those of reference index-guiding and bandgap-guiding photonic crystal fibers.
