Laboratory column tests using $Cl^-$ tracer were conducted to study the correlation of soil particle distribution and hydrodynamic dispersion mechanism with three kinds of ununiformed soil samples, in which the ratio of gravel and sand versus silt and clay is 24.5 for S-1 soil, 4.48 for S-2 soil, and 0.4 for S-3 soil. Chloride breakthrough curves with time were fitted with gaussian functions. The relative concentrations of chloride were converged to 1.0 after 0.7 hours for S-1, 6.3 hours for S-2, and 389 hours for S-3. Average linear velocity, longitudinal dispersion coefficient, and longitudinal dispersivity were calculated by chloride breakthrough curves. Longitudinal dispersion coefficients were $1.20{\times}10^{-4}\;m^2/sec$ for S-1, $8.87{\times}10^{-7}\;m^2/sec$ for S-2, and $1.94{\times}10^{-9}\;m^2/sec$ for S-3. Peclet numbers calculated by the molecular diffusion coefficient of chloride and the mean grain diameters of soils were $2.59{\times}10^2$ for S-1, $6.27{\times}10^0$ for S-2, and $1.35{\times}10^{-4}$ for S-3. Mechanical dispersion was dominant for the hydrodynamic dispersion mechanism of S-1. Both mechanical dispersion and molecular diffusion were dominant for the hydrodynamic dispersion mechanism of S-2, but mechanical dispersion was ascendant over molecular diffusion. Hydrodynamic dispersion in S-3 was occurred mainly by molecular diffusion. When plotting three soils on the graph of $D_L/D_m$ versus Peclet number produced by Bijeljic and Blunt (2006), the values of $D_L/D_m$ for S-1 and S-2 were more than 2.0 order compared to their graph. S-3 was not plotted on their graph because the Peclet number was as small as $1.35{\times}10^{-4}$.
The electron transport coefficients in not only pure atoms and molecules but also in the binary gas mixtures are necessary, especially on understanding quantitatively plasma phenomena and ionized gases. Electron transport coefficients (electron drift velocity, density-normalized longitudinal diffusion coefficient, and density-normalized effective ionization coefficient) in binary mixtures of TEOS gas with buffer gases such as Kr, Xe, He, and Ne gases, therefore, was analyzed and calculated by a two-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation in the E/N range (ratio of the electric field E to the neutral number density N) of 0.1 - 1000 Td (1 Td = 10−17 V.cm2). These binary gas mixtures can be considered to use as the silicon sources in many industrial applications depending on mixture ratio and particular application of gas, especially on plasma assisted thin-film deposition.
In this paper energy distribution function in $SiH_4$ has been analysed over the E/N range 0.5${\sim}$300Td and Pressure value 0.5, 1.0, 2.5 Torr by a two-term approximation Boltzmann equation method and by a Monte Carlo simulation. The motion has been calculated to give swarm parameters for the electron drift velocity, diffusion coefficient, electron ionization, mean energy and the electron energy distribution function. The electron energy distribution function has been analysed in $SiH_4$ at E/N=30, 50Td for a case of the equilibrium region in the mean electron energy and respective set of electron collision cross sections. The results show that the deduced electron drift velocities, the electron ionization or attachment coefficients, longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficients and mean energy agree reasonably well with theoretical for a rang of E/N values.
This study was executed to find the applicability of press drying of tree disk by investigating the shrinkage and drying defect and to form appropriate model by comparing the actual moisture content(MC) and internal temperature in respect of drying time with calculated values based computer simulation to which was applied finite difference method. In press drying disk, heating period, constant drying rate period maintained plateau temperature at 100$^{\circ}C$ and falling drying rate period were significantly distinguished. Actual MC and internal temperature were analogous to those calculated at comparing points. Heat transfer model formed by Fourier's law using specific heat of moist wood and conduction coefficient considering fractional volume of each element of wood cell wall, bound water, free water and air showed applicability as basic data to developing heat expansion, shrinkage and drying stress during press drying. Also mass transfer model formed by Fick's diffusion law using water vapor diffusion coefficient showed applicability. Longitudinal shrinkage was developed by pressure of hot press and tangential shrinkage was restrained by hygrothermal recovery. The heart check, surface check and ring failure were occurred differently in species, but V-shaped crack didn't develop.
For quantitative understanding of gas discharge phenomena, we should know electron collision cross section. $GeH_4$ is used in many applications with $Si_2H_6$ gas, such as amorphous alloy, a thin film of silicon and solar cell. Therefore, we understand the electron transport characteristics and analysed the electron transport coefficients, the electron drift velocity W, the longitudinal and transverse diffusion coefficient $ND_L$ and $ND_T$, and the ionization coefficient $\alpha$/N in $GeH_4$gas over the E/N range from 0.01 to 1000 Td by two-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation.
Insulating characteristics of Cl2-He mixture gases in gas discharges were analysed to evaluate ability of these gases for using in medium voltage and many industries. These are electron transport coefficients, which are the electron drift velocity, density-normalized longitudinal diffusion coefficient, and density-normalized effective ionization coefficient, in Cl2-He mixtures. A two-term approximation of the Boltzmann equation was used to calculate the electron transport coefficients for the first time over a wide range of E/N (ratio of the electric field E to the neutral number density N). The limiting field strength values of E/N, (E/N)lim, for these binary gas mixtures were also derived and compared with those of the pure SF6 gas.

This study developed the Time-split Mixing Model (TMM) which can represent the pollutant mixing process on a three-dimensional open channel through constructing the conceptual model based on Taylor's assumption (1954) that the shear flow dispersion is the result of combination of shear advection and diffusion by turbulence. The developed model splits the 2-D mixing process into longitudinal mixing and transverse mixing, and it represents the 2-D advection-dispersion by the repetitive calculation of concentration separation by the vertical non-uniformity of flow velocity and then vertical mixing by turbulent diffusion sequentially. The simulation results indicated that the proposed model explains the effect of concentration overlapping by boundary walls, and the simulated concentration was in good agreement with the analytical solution of the 2-D advection-dispersion equation in Taylor period (Chatwin, 1970). The proposed model could explain the correlation between hydraulic factors and the dispersion coefficient to provide the physical insight about the dispersion behavior. The longitudinal dispersion coefficient calculated by the TMM varied with the mixing time unlike the constant value suggested by Elder (1959), whereas the transverse dispersion coefficient was similar with the coefficient evaluated by experiments of Sayre and Chang (1968), Fischer et al. (1979).

Objective: It is difficult to predict the treatment response of tissue after stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) because radiation necrosis (RN) and tumor recurrence can coexist. Our study aimed to predict tumor recurrence, including the recurrence site, after SRS of brain metastasis by performing a longitudinal tumor habitat analysis. Materials and Methods: Two consecutive multiparametric MRI examinations were performed for 83 adults (mean age, 59.0 years; range, 27-82 years; 44 male and 39 female) with 103 SRS-treated brain metastases. Tumor habitats based on contrast-enhanced T1- and T2-weighted images (structural habitats) and those based on the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and cerebral blood volume (CBV) images (physiological habitats) were defined using k-means voxel-wise clustering. The reference standard was based on the pathology or Response Assessment in Neuro-Oncologycriteria for brain metastases (RANO-BM). The association between parameters of single-time or longitudinal tumor habitat and the time to recurrence and the site of recurrence were evaluated using the Cox proportional hazards regression analysis and Dice similarity coefficient, respectively. Results: The mean interval between the two MRI examinations was 99 days. The longitudinal analysis showed that an increase in the hypovascular cellular habitat (low ADC and low CBV) was associated with the risk of recurrence (hazard ratio [HR], 2.68; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.46-4.91; P = 0.001). During the single-time analysis, a solid low-enhancing habitat (low T2 and low contrast-enhanced T1 signal) was associated with the risk of recurrence (HR, 1.54; 95% CI, 1.01-2.35; P = 0.045). A hypovascular cellular habitat was indicative of the future recurrence site (Dice similarity coefficient = 0.423). Conclusion: After SRS of brain metastases, an increased hypovascular cellular habitat observed using a longitudinal MRI analysis was associated with the risk of recurrence (i.e., treatment resistance) and was indicative of recurrence site. A tumor habitat analysis may help guide future treatments for patients with brain metastases.
A fractional step finite difference model for the longitudinal dispersion of nonconservative contaminants is developed. It is based on splitting the longitudinal dispersion equation into a set of three equations each to be solved over a one-third time step. The fourth-order Holly-Preissmann scheme, an analytic solution, and the Crank-Nicholson scheme are used to solve the equations for the pure advection, the first-order decay, and the diffusion, respectively. To test the model, it is applied to simulate the longitudinal dispersion of continuous source released into a nonuniform flow field as well as the dispersion of an instantaneous source in a uniform flow field. The results are compared with the exact solution and those computed by an existing model. Compared to the existing model which uses Euler method for the first-order decay equation, the present model yield more accurate results as the decay coefficient increases.
An analysis is made to study the solute transport in a Casson fluid flow through an annulus in presence of oscillatory flow field and determine how this flow influence the solute dispersion along the annular region. Axial dispersion coefficient and the mean concentration expressions are calculated using the generalized dispersion model. Dispersion coefficient in oscillatory flow is found to be a function of frequency parameter, Schmidt number, and the pressure fluctuation component besides its dependency on yield stress of the fluid, annular gap and time in the case of steady flow. Due to the oscillatory nature of the flow, the dispersion coefficient changes cyclically and the amplitude and magnitude of the dispersion increases initially with time and reaches a non - transient state after a certain critical time. This critical value varies with frequency parameter and independent of the other parameters. It is found that the presence of inner cylinder and increase in the size of the inner cylinder inhibits the dispersion process. This model may be used in understanding the dispersion phenomenon in cardiovascular flows and in particular in catheterized arteries.
