This paper develops a risk index based on an indicator of risk assessment in terms of coastal activity location and accident type. The risk index is derived from a formula which adds the consequence of failure to a vulnerability value, then subtracts the mitigation value. Specifically, the consequence of failure is the number of casualties in coastal activity locations. An indicator of vulnerability refers to coastal environment elements and social elements. A pointer of mitigation includes managerial and organizational elements that indicate the capabilities of coastal activities. A risk rating of coastal activity location is found from a risk matrix consisting of the accident location and type. The purpose of this study is to prevent accidents at coastal activity locations by allowing the Coastal police guard to monitor effectively and inform visitors of potential risks.

Injection molding is widely used in producing various plastic parts due to its high productivity and the demand for high precision injection molded products is ever increasing. To achieve successful product quality and precision, the design of gating and runner systems in the injection mold is very important since it directly influences melt flow into the cavity. Some defects such as weld lines and overpacking can be effectively controlled with proper selection of gate locations. In the present study, the design of gate locations in injection molding of a dashboard for automobiles was carried out with CAMPmold, a PC-based simulation system for injection molding. A dummy runner was developed to simulate a runner system in order to increase the efficiency of the analysis. The numbers and locations of gates were varied in the present investigation as that an acceptable design was obtained in terms of reduced maximum pressure and clamping force.
This study numerically investigates thermal comfort in a space cooled by the floor-supply air conditioning system, in which three different supply-return locations, one floor supply-ceiling return and two floor supply-floor returns, are treated. A complementary experiment is peformed to validate the present numerical analysis, and the prediction agrees favorably with the measured data. In the numerical procedure, a simplified model mimicking the inlet flow through the diffuser is developed for efficient simulations. The calculated results show that the ceiling return type is far better in thermal comfort than the floor return ones within the extent of this study, which seems to be caused by effective vertical penetration of the supply air against natural convection. It is also revealed that the arrangement of port locations in the floor supply-floor return system has insignificant effect on the cooling performance. For selecting a proper system, other characteristics including the heating performance should be accounted for simultaneously with the present estimation.
Incidence of blast caused by Pyricularia grisea on five new cultivars and four elite lines (C/L) of rice was investigated at different locations, Icheon, Chuncheon, Jecheon and Naju, 1992 to 1994. Disease indices of leaf blast on the tested C/L except Juanbyeo and Keumnambyeo ranged from 0 to 6 in the blast nursery. Under the field conditions, percentages of diseased leaf area of Kuemnambyeo were 6.5% in Jecheon and 2.8% in Icheon in 1993. The incidence of panicle blast on the C/L except Suweon 394 and Milyang 117 differed depending on the locations and years. In case of Unjangbyeo, panicle blast was rarely observed n the fields in Icheon and Naju, but the disease incidences were 21.8% in Jecheon in 1993 and 16.4% in Chuncheon in 1994. Race distribution of the blast fungus was variable according to the locations. The major race in the Jecheon site was KI-197, which was recently identified.
Ceil embolisation technique has been used to treat the intracranial aneurysms. Microcoils inserted into the aneurysm sac induce the blood flow stagnation inside the aneurysm sac, which causes the thrombus formation and embolisation of aneurysm. Since the intraaneurysmal flow patterns affect the embolisation process, we want to measure the flow field for different locations of coil inside the aneurysm sac . Lateral aneurysm models are manufactured using rapid prototyping, and the velocity fields are measured using particle image velocitimeter. Distally blocked models showed less flow into the aneurysm sac comparing to proximally blocked models. Also blocking the neck of aneurysm showed better inflow blocking comparing to blocking the dome of aneurysm. These results suggest that distal neck should be the preferred locations of coil for aneurysm embolisation.
Conventional methodologies (empirical, analytical, numerical, hybrid, etc.) for sizing photovoltaic (PV) systems cannot be used when the relevant meteorological data are not available. To overcome this situation, modern methods based on artificial intelligence techniques have been developed for sizing the PV systems. In the present study, the optimum PV/inverter sizing ratio for grid-connected PV systems with orientation due south and inclination angles of $45^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ in selected Algerian locations was determined in terms of total system output using type-2 fuzzy logic. Because measured data for the locations chosen were not available, a year of synthetic hourly meteorological data for each location generated by the PVSYST software was used in the simulation.
This paper presents a method of decision on where bus splitting is needed to reduce fault current level of power systems and to satisfy the fault current constraints. The method employs a modified fault current constrained optimal power flow (FCC-OPF) with X variables for the candidate locations of splitting and for decision making on whether to split or not, it adopts soft-discretization by augmenting inversed U-shaped penalty terms. Also, this paper discusses the procedure on the adequate selection of bus splitting locations based on the results of the modified FCC-OPF, to reduce the total number of the actions taken.
This paper presents a monitor positioning algorithm to identify the power quality event source in the distribution system with distributed generations. This algorithm determines the appropriate number of monitors and their locations considering power system topology together with distributed generation. This paper summarizes the guidelines of monitor positioning into five principles and defines the weighting factors according to the principles. To evaluate the adequacy of monitor positioning results, ambiguity indices considering monitor location and system topology are proposed. The optimal number and locations of monitors are determined from optimization routine using the weighting factors and the monitor positioning results are evaluated in terms of ambiguity indices. The algorithm is applied to IEEE 13 bus test feeder and suggests the optimal number and locations of power quality monitors. The proposed approach can realize the expert's knowledge on monitor positioning into a sophisticated automatic computing algorithm.
The performance of muffler can be improved for a frequency range of interest by moving inlet and outlet locations. And optimal location of inlet and outlet can be determined to improve the acoustic performance. The optimum design using FEM, however, may take a very long time and be very hard to take inlet and outlet locations as design variables. In this paper, the acoustic performance of reactive type single expansion chamber muffler is predicted using higher order mode theory. The sensitivity analysis of transmission loss with respect to the location of inlet and outlet is suggested. And the acoustic power transmission coefficient for a frequency of interest is used as cost function. Optimum location of inlet and outlet is determined to minimize cost function by using SUMT algorithm.
In the past, the use of wave energy has mainly been focused on conversion of large wave energy resources in the far offshore areas. However, with the technological improvement of converting wave energy into electricity, the energy resources at much shallow waters are now considered as a site for possible installation of the devices that obtain energy from the waves. In this respect, the wave energy resources on the east coast of Korea, where the sea is milder than the open ocean, were investigated using the field measurement data obtained at three different locations along the coast. For all the locations, the wave power was greater in winter season, compared to summer season. The estimated wave power varied from 2 to 4.5 kW/m on average, depending on the measurement locations.
