  • In this paper a dynamic behavior of a cracked cantilever pipe conveying fluid with the moving mass is presented. It has the results focused on the frequency change. Based on the Euler-Bernouli beam theory, the equation of motion can be constructed by using the Lagrange's equation. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments. The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture and to be always opened during the vibrations. When the velocity of the moving mass is constant, the influences of the crack severity, the position of the crack, the moving mass, and the coupling of these factors on the frequencies of the cantilever pipe are depicted.

  • The reduction of airborne and structure-borne noise of a shipboard pump for a navel ship is very important because the noise levels of the pump must not exceed criteria such as MIL-STD. In this paper, several practical examples of reducing the noise levels are presented. The examples show that the inadequate rotor-balancing and shaft-alignment results in the increase of the structure-borne noise on all lower mounts. It is also found that the unequal loading on mounts can cause the dramatically increasing the noise levels on certain local positions. Since the piping system arrangement such as valve location, flexible joint, and elbow location affects on the noise measurement, care must be taken to minimize the unnecessary noise from the piping system.

  • The proposed algorithm tries to localize damage in a structure by monitoring abnormal increases in strain measurements from a group of wireless sensors. Initially, this clustering technique provides an effective sensor placement within a structure. Sensor clustering also assigns a certain number of master sensors in each cluster so that they can constantly monitor the structural health of a structure. By adopting a voting system, a group of wireless sensors iteratively forages for a damage location as they can be activated as needed. Numerical simulation demonstrates that the newly developed searching algorithm implemented on wireless sensors successfully localizes stiffness damage in a plate through the local level reconfigurable function of smart sensors.

  • A solution based on the linear three-dimensional theory of elasticity is developed for vibration and elastostatic problems of hollow toroids. The theory is developed for transversely isotropic toroids of arbitrary thickness, and has the potential to validate some vehicle and aircraft tire models in the linear range. In the semi-analytical method that is adopted Fourier series are written in the circumferential direction, forming a set of two-dimensional problems. These problems are solved using the differential quadrature method. A commercial finite element program is used to determine alternative solutions. For validation both problems of vibration and elastostatics are considered. Finally results are determined for local surface loading problems, and conclusions are drawn.

  • The objective of the study is to develop attenuation equations of the ground motions in the southern part of the Korean peninsula. The earthquake source characteristics and the medium properties were estimated from available instrumental earthquake records and used as input parameters. The peak ground accelerations(PGA) and pseudo-velocity response spectra(PSV) were simulated by the random vibration theory. The attenuation equations for the PGA and PSV were constructed in terms of local magnitudes and hypocentral distances.

  • Recently, micro-speakers have attracted much attention due to their increasing demand in mobile devices. Micro-speakers use polymer diaphragms, which are manufactured from thin polymer film by the thermoforming process. The diaphragm is generally designed to be a circular membrane with a cross section consisting of a double dome structure, and a number of corrugations are located in the outer region to produce better sound quality. In the current study, a finite element (FE) analysis is performed for thermoforming, and the resulting thickness reduction in the corrugation regions is estimated. The estimated thickness distribution is used in further structural and modal FE analyses, from which the effects of local thickness reduction on the stiffness and vibration characteristics are determined.

  • Noise generated from Construction site has been raised most civil complaints to 64.4 % among the environmental pollution in 2011. Therefore, local government recommends and prescribes that construction sites over a certain scale install sound level meter for noise monitoring. For example, Seoul has implemented a 24 hour noise monitoring system, with real time communication, to the large construction sites more than 10,000 $m^2$ from the end of August 2012. But it is difficult to use noise measurement data for the construction noise assessment, since the installation standards and technical specifications for construction noise monitoring system are not presented. In this paper, we proposed noise monitoring system improvement plan including technical specifications and installation standards using the investigating results of the problems of current noise monitoring system and the foreign cases.

  • Although time-frequency analysis is useful for dispersive wave analysis, conventional methods such as the short-time Fourier transform do not take the dispersion phenomenon into consideration in the tiling of the time-frequency domain. The objective of this paper is to develop an adaptive time-frequency analysis method whose time-frequency tiling is determined with the consideration of signal dispersion characteristics. To achieve the adaptive time-frequency tiling, each of time-frequency atoms is rotated in the time-frequency plane depending on the local wave dispersion. To carry out this adaptive time-frequency transform, dispersion characteristics hidden in a signal are first estimated by an iterative scheme. To examine the effectiveness of the present method, the flexural wave signals measured in a plate were analyzed.

  • In this paper, the effect of a moving mass on dynamic behavior of the cracked cantilever beam on elastic foundations is presented. Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the equation of motion can be constructed by using the Lagrange's equation. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments. That is, the crack is modelled as a rotational spring. This flexibility matrix defines the relationship between the displacements and forces across the crack section and is derived by applying fundamental fracture mechanics theory The crack is assumed to be in the first mode of fracture. As the depth of crack is increased, the tip displacement of the cantilever beam is Increased. When the depth of crack is constant, the frequency of a cracked beam is proportional to the spring stiffness.

  • In this paper, the dynamic stability of a cracked cantilever pipe conveying fluid with tip mass is investigated. The pipe is modelled by the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory in which rotatory inertia and shear deformation effects are ignored. The equation of motion is derived by the energy expressions using extended Hamilton's Principle. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged pipe segments. The influence of the crack severity, the position of crack, the mass ratio, and a tip mass on the stability of a cantilever pipe conveying fluid are studied by the numerical method. Besides, the critical flow velocity and the stability maps of the pipe system as a function of mass ratios($\beta$) for the changing each parameter are obtained.
