The issue of sustainable forest management (SFM) continues to emerge as part of the REDD+ mechanism mitigation efforts. Especially for some developing countries, such as Indonesia, forest management is required to provide benefits to the welfare of local communities in addition to forest conservation efforts. This study aims to identify the economic, social, and environmental impacts of community-based forest management (CBFM) implementation activities, which is one of the implementations of SFM at field level. The primary objectives were to find out the impacts of CBFM activities based on local people's perceptions and to identify what factors need to be considered to increase local people's satisfaction on CBFM activities. The data from 6 sub-villages was derived through surveys with local people involved in CBFM activities, interviews with a key informant, and supported by secondary data. The results of the study state that CBFM activities have increased the local people's income as well as their welfare, strengthening the local institution, and help to resolve conflicts in the study area. CBFM has also been successful in protecting forests by rehabilitating unproductive lands and increase forest cover area. By using binary logistic regression analysis, it found that income, business development opportunities, access to forests, conflict resolution, institutional strengthening, and forest rehabilitation variable significantly affected the local people's satisfaction of CBFM activities.
This study evaluated the effect of consumers' knowledge and attitude toward to local foods on purchase intention. The study data were collected through a three-week online survey of 500 household food purchasers who had bought local foods within the previous year. The results are as follows. First, examining the difference in the knowledge of local foods according to socio-demographic variables revealed that married people had more knowledge of local foods than singles according to marital status, and college graduates and higher had more knowledge than high school graduates and lower according to education level. Second, as a result of examining the difference in attitudes towards local foods according to socio-demographic variables, married people more than single people according to marital status, people in their 30s more than those in their 20s according to age and college graduates and higher more than high school graduates and lower according to education level had more positive attitudes towards local foods. Third, as a result of examining the difference in consumers' purchase intention towards local foods according to socio-demographic variables, according to age, and housewives had the lowest purchase intention towards local foods according to occupation. (Ed- I cannot understand: the section 'according to socio-demographic variables, according to age, and housewives had' is confused) People engaged in office/specialized/managerial jobs and those engaged in production/sales/service had the highest purchase intention. In regard to monthly average income, households that made less than KRW 4 million had the lowest purchase intention, and those that made KRW 4-8 million had the highest purchase intention. Fourth, the knowledge of local foods affected attitudes towards local foods. Fifth, attitudes towards local foods affected consumers' purchase intention. In other words, people with positive attitudes towards local foods had higher purchase intention.
There are many attempts to develop rural areas by the use of local resources. Local industrialization is a well-known means to found industrialization by the local people using specialized local resources. However, there are many difficulties local people face in the industrialization of these local resources. This is mainly due to local people's lack of experience and knowledge in the development of these resources and the foundation of industrialization in these rural areas require further assistant. This thesis intends to examine the local conditions in order to represent the possibilities and limitations of the industrialization in the use of local resources, Gokseong cotton. We will further suggest various methods & means of these applications and illustrate the efficient approach to development scheme.

Recently, there has been an increasing interest in the migration of young people to local areas. These young people are discovering and reinterpreting local resources to open local businesses while generating new value in local activities and businesses. This study was initiated with the recognition that fundamental solutions are needed for these young people to settle and sustain residence in the local area. Edward Relph stated that 'place' is a fundamental attribute that influences human existence in the world and is the source of stability and identity formation for individuals. This is deeply related to the psychology of young people who have migrated to local areas. These young people accept the unfamiliar 'space' as a 'place' to form stability and personal identity. Therefore, this study utilized PhotoVoice methodology to examine the process and key factors of place identity formation among migrant youths. As a result, the study identified factors that enable young people to settle in local areas and sustain residence while recognizing elements the local government should focus on to support and address the influx of young people. The results of this study can serve as a foundation for addressing the declining population in local areas through the formation of a relationship population and spur the inflow of young people to local cities in the future.

This study is to analyze the Korean translation of "Goseong Chongswaerok" by O Hoeng-muk as a local governor through political ecology. It focuses on how O Hoeng-muk recognized and wrote the interrelation among weather, agriculture, local resident's life, and local policy. The results are summarized in the followings. Firstly, weather was recorded into three types of expression, simple and dynamic expression and agriculture-related expression. Its dynamics was much meaningful and important when weather was related to local resident's life and local or non-local economy and politics. Secondly, weather and local government were conflict under a particular natural condition like severe drought. And society and politics are affected by such a conflict. Thirdly, local people's demonstration was occurred under a certain condition. Bounded agency can be founded in O Hoeng-muk's behavior as a local governor like jinhyul(賑恤), rain rituals, tax collection. Fourthly, the interrelation among weather, agriculture, local people's life, and local policy implemented in a particular local like Goseong ought to be interpreted in terms of multiple scales.
In order to vitalize the local area of Tendou City in Japan, this study chose a local indigenous industry and sought ways to connect the tourism industry with it. An inventory of local indigenous industry was assembled using relevant literature, field surveys, and interviews with local people. The Japanese chess industry was selected for a case study in connecting tourism with industry. Local indigenous industry was defined as an industry related to the local culture that uses local resources (and thus introduces possible industrialization). This industry can be easily marketed is to the rest of Japan or abroad. People in charge of local indigenous industry should understand the meaning and effects of connecting to the tourism industry, while people in tourism should acknowledge that local industry is good marketing material. Three steps are suggested: 1) to display the industrialy process of Japanese chess production: to tourism in safe and comfortable surroundings; 2) to offer amenities and producetion facility tuors; and 3) to offer tourists an opportunity to experience Japanese chess productions first hands.

The objective of this study was to examine Jeonju residents' recognition towards their native local foods. The results indicate that their degree of interest in the native foods was above average. As age and education increased, the degree of interest was also increased. Also, married people showed greater interest as compared to single people (p<$0.05{\sim}0.001$). There were more people who said they preferred native foods than people who said they didn't, where 213 people (41.3%) answered that they preferred the native foods. Of the people who said they like native foods, their main reason was because the native foods taste good. The main reason for the people who said they disliked native foods was that they didn't have many opportunities to try native foods. TV and radio were the first means, among others, from which people learned about native foods. The place where people ate native foods most often was native food restaurants (242 people, 46.95%). A frequency of a native food intake (including home and dining-out) of $1{\sim}2$ times/year was most prominent, with 137 people (26.6%). Also, a cooking frequency of "hardly ever cooks" was most prominent with 163 people (31.6%). The most prominent reason for the low cooking frequency at home was because they didn't know the recipes. Among 5 basic recipe characteristics for native foods (easy preparation of ingredients, simple recipe procedures, quick preparation, reasonable recipe procedures, sanitation), "sanitation" had the highest average score of 3.54, and "simple recipe procedure" had the lowest score of 2.44. To summarize, in order to develop Jeonju native local foods, it is necessary to implement various strategies such as frequently holding events where people can experience their native foods, running a native food training center, advertising through TV and radio, developing easy home recipes, and simplifying recipes.
In analyzing the issues of ecotourism, collecting opinions of local residents and participants is an essential process because ecotourism needs to keep ecological sensitivity and respect local residents' ecological lives. Thus, the objective of this study is to analyze the local participants' attitude in resident-oriented ecotourism. Maha ecotourism site, as a study site, is located in Pyeongchang-gun, one of the twelve ecotourism sites designated by the Ministry of Environment. This site has drawn attention since the local government of Pyeongchang-gun transferred its management right on Maha ecotourism sit to the organization of local residents in 2013. This study uses Q methodology which is the most popular research method in analyzing people's subjectivity, that is, viewpoint and attitude. This study have found that there are four features in the subjectivities of participants toward ecotourism site: first group is the people who want more autonomous management right of local residents on Maha ecotourism site. Second group is the people who only want to stand by the ecotourism management. Third group is the people who focus on the migration of talented persons into their neighborhood owing to the program. Lastly, fourth group is the people who focus on the quality of the ecotourism program. In case of the second group, though they have negative opinions of the program, they have much interest in successful cases in other countries managed similar programs with Maha ecotourism. It would be effective for the group to have opportunities to experience successful ecotourism cases in other countries. On top of it, having seminars regarding ecotourism or holding community councils frequently would be very helpful for encouraging the second group of people to join in the ecotourism program actively like other groups of people. Supplying more manpower and developing various programs are also necessary in order to support other three groups.

Recently, the number of people who return to rural areas for farming is increasing rapidly. This attracted public attention so that the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries announced officially comprehensive countermeasures to help those returning to rural areas. But there is not sufficient consideration of the role of local governments in the above countermeasures. Policy package to help returning people establish themselves in rural area include many soft programs that requires governance, delicate implementation process and expertise to advise. Therefore, the local governments should have appropriate governance and perspectives.
Selection of superior phenotypes of fruit trees and products based on established criteria by local people is a prerequisite for future species domestication and conservation. Thus the study objective was to identify the local people's perceptions and preferences on baobab trees and products. A sample of 142 respondents was randomly selected using structured interviews in Blue Nile and North Kordofan, Sudan in 2013. Descriptive analysis was employed using SPSS and Excel programs. The study results indicated that local people use the morphological characteristics of the tree (leaves, fruits, seeds, kernels and bark) to differentiate individual trees. Based on the perceptions, local people recorded trees with delicious leaves, white pulp color, big fruit size and mature capsule size, and high pulp yield as criteria for differentiating between baobab trees in the study areas. In contrast, the undesirable traits were connected to trees with acidic pulp, slimy pulp, bitter leaves, and low pulp yield. The study concluded that the ethnobotanical knowledge of the baobab tree and its products may play an important role in tree domestication and improvement in Sudan. However, further research on tree genetics is needed to complement the ethnobotanical knowledge for baobab resources domestication and conservation.
