There exist scaling relations that link the mass of supermassive black holes with both the velocity dispersion and the mass of the central stellar cusp of their host galaxies. This implies that galaxies co-evolve with their central black holes, potentially through the feedback from actively accreting supermassive black holes (AGN). We use integral field spectroscopy data from the 8.2m Gemini-North telescope to investigate ionized gas outflows in luminous local (z<0.1) Type 2 AGN. Our sample of 6 galaxies was selected based on their [OIII] dust-corrected luminosity (>$10^{42}erg/s$) and signatures of outflows in the [OIII] line profile of their SDSS spectra. These are arguably the best candidates to explore AGN feedback in action since they are < 1% of a large local type 2 AGN SDSS sample selected based on their [OIII] kinematics. Expanding on previously reported results concerning the kinematic decomposition and size determination of these outflows, here we report their photoionization properties and energetics. We find strong evidence that connect the extreme kinematics of the ionized gas with AGN photoionization. The kinematic component related to the AGN-driven outflow is clearly separated from other kinematic components, such as gravitation- or stellar-driven motions, on the velocity and velocity dispersion diagram. Our spatially resolved kinematic analysis reveals that up to 90% of the mass and kinetic energy of the outflow is contained within the central kiloparcec of the galaxy. The total mass and kinetic energy of the outflow correlate well with the AGN bolometric luminosity, resulting in energy conversion efficiencies between 0.01% and 1%. Intriguingly, we detect ubiquitous signs of ongoing circumnuclear star formation. Their small size, the centrally contained mass and energy, and the universally detected circumnuclear star formation cast doubts on the potency of these AGN-driven outflows as agents of negative feedback.

The interest in evaluation of structural intensity arises for practical reasons, because net energy flow distribution offers information of energy transmission path, positions of sources, and sinks of vibration energy. In this paper, structural intensity analysis of local ship structures using finite element method(FEM) is carried out. The purpose of this analysis is to evaluate the relative accuracy according to mesh fineness. The structural intensity of unstiffened and stiffened plates varying their mesh fineness is analyzed and the results are compared with those obtained by the assumed mode method. As results, the proper mesh size in qualitative/quantitative structural intensity analysis of plate structures is proposed. In addition, the propagation phenomenon of vibration energy is investigated for the thickness-varying flat plate, L-type plate, and box-girder structures.
Elliptical tubes may buckle in an elastic local buckling failure mode under uniform compression. Previous analyses of the local buckling of these members have assumed that the cross-section is hollow, but it is well-known that the local buckling capacity of thin-walled closed sections may be increased by filling them with a rigid medium such as concrete. In many applications, the medium many not necessarily be rigid, and the infill can be considered to be an elastic material which interacts with the buckling of the elliptical tube that surrounds it. This paper uses an energy-based technique to model the buckling of a thin-walled elliptical tube containing an elastic infill, which elucidates the physics of the buckling phenomenon from an engineering mechanics basis, in deference to a less generic finite element approach to the buckling problem. It makes use of the observation that the local buckling in an elliptical tube is localised with respect to the contour of the ellipse in its cross-section, with the localisation being at the region of lowest curvature. The formulation in the paper is algebraic and it leads to solutions that can be determined by implementing simple numerical solution techniques. A further extension of this formulation to a stiffness approach with multiple degrees of buckling freedom is described, and it is shown that using the simple one degree of freedom representation is sufficiently accurate for determining the elastic local buckling coefficient.
An experimental study is performed to analyze flow structures behind a local suction/blowing in a flat-plate turbulent boundary layer, The local forcing is given to the boundary layer flow by means of a sinusoidally oscillating jet issuing from a thin spanwise slot at the wall. The Reynolds number based on the momentum thickness is about $Re_{\theta}=1700$. The effects of local forcing are scrutinized by altering the forcing frequency $(0.011{\leq}f^+{\leq}0.044)$. The forcing amplitude is fixed at $A_0=0.4$. It is found that a small local forcing reduces the skin friction, and this reduction increases with the forcing frequency. A phase-averaging technique is employed to capture the coherent structures. Velocity signals are decomposed into a periodic part and a fluctuating part. An organized spanwise vortical structure is generated by the local forcing. The larger reduction of skin friction for the higher forcing frequencies is attributed to the diminished adverse effect of the secondary vortex. An investigation of the random fluctuation components reveals that turbulent energy is concentrated near the center of vortical structures.

The Milky Way did not form in isolation, but is the product of a complex evolution of generations of mergers, collapses, star formation, supernovae and collisional heating, radiative and collisional cooling, and ejected nucleosynthesis. Moreover, all of this occurs in the context of the cosmic expansion, the formation of cosmic filaments, dark-matter haloes, spiral density waves, and emerging dark energy. This paper summarizes a review of recent attempts to reconstruct this complex evolution. We compare simulated properties with various observed properties of the Local Group. Among the generic features of simulated systems is the tendency for galactic halos to form within the dark matter filaments that define a supergalactic plane. Gravitational interaction along this structure leads to a streaming flow toward the two dominant galaxies in the cluster. We analyze this alignment and streaming flow and compare with the observed properties of Local-Group galaxies. Our comparison with Local Group properties suggests that some dwarf galaxies in the Local Group are part of a local streaming flow. These simulations also suggest that a significant fraction of the Galactic halo formed at large distances and arrived later along these streaming flows.
The regional innovation policies so far have been separated from the social problems facing the local communities. The regional innovation policies, regarding the region as the location of the business, have focused on the invigoration of business innovation activities. However, as the recent emergence of the new paradigm of innovation policy aiming the sustainability, 'transformative innovation policy,' has led to a search for regional innovation policies that begin with solving the local social problems. This research paper deals with regional innovation theory that starts from searching for solutions and system transformation for social problems such as climate crisis and energy problems. The objective is to present a new framework called 'transformative regional innovation policy' and to improve its content through case studies by combining the results of the transformative innovation policy and the regional innovation policy studies. In particular, the contribution of this paper is to analyze and discuss the concept of the transition platform, which aims to solve the local social problems, through the case studies of Gussing, Austria and Esbjerg, Denmark. Lastly, it discusses the derived implications of the cases applied in Korean society.

Recently, central and local governments of Korea have established and implemented various energy policies such as making energy map of city level and establishment of environment friendly city plan to materialize low carbon green city. To implement effectively these policies, however, conditions of energy consumption by each administrative district and each usage have to be verified exactly. This study is aimed to suggest a basic data for planing energy policy and energy demand prediction of city level by analyzing energy consumption unit and conditions of city gas by borough and usage in Busan.

Energy consumption is considered as a principal ingredient in mobile wireless ad-hoc networks. In such a network, most of mobile nodes takes a role in forwarding messages received from neighbor nodes. Energy of these nodes is consumed in different rates depending on message traffic routes. This paper proposes a scheme to balance routing energy consumption by transferring routing function from node with small residual energy to node with enough residual energy. This scheme requires additional local message transfer, increasing the energy consumption of nodes to transfer routing function, and increasing total energy consumption of ad-hoc network. But balancing of energy consumption make the system lifetime the longer and increase the average node lifetime.

In this paper, we consider a novel spectrum sensing system in which firstly, the fusion center (FC) senses and makes the own decision then if its sensing result is not useful for achieving the final decision, the local observations from the cognitive users (CUs) will be required. Moreover, in case that FC needs the results from CUs, we will choose only CU having the highest collected energy to send its local decision to FC. Based on this selecting method, the number of sensing bits can be reduced; hence, we can save the power and the bandwidth for reporting stage in the cognitive radio network (CRN). The mathematical analysis of the key metrics of the sensing schemes (probability of detection, false alarm, e.g.) will be investigated and confirmed by the Monte-Carlo simulation results to show the performance enhancement of the proposed schemes.

The effect of root-zone local cooling on seedling growth of tomato was investigated. Lower pipe cooling was used for local cooling of the root zone, and the root zone temperature was set at 20 and 25℃. There was no difference in plant height, root length, and leaf number according to local cooling temperature. Leaf area, fresh weight, dry weight, and chlorophyll content of the shoot and root was higher in the 25℃ than those of 20℃ at 28 DAS. These results showed that cooling for seedling growth of tomato 25℃ is sufficient considering energy efficiency. This study will be helpful in the development of local cooling technology that can reduce the energy required for cooling during the production of tomato seedlings in the high temperature season.
