The real time optimal control algorithm of the DDC controller for chilled water and supply air temperature set-point of heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems has been researched for minimization of the total power which is consumed by the chiller, chilled water pump and air handing unit fan. The study has been done by using TRNSYS program in order to analyze the central cooling system in terms of the environmental variables such as indoor cooling lead and wet-bulb temperature. This optimal control alogorithm saves more energy and is suitable for real time on-line control in comparison with conventional method.
An experimental study is carried out to investigate the effects of air and water mass flow rates on cooling characteristics of mist impinging jet on a flat plate. Experiments are conducted with air mass flow rates from 0.0 to 3.0 g/s, and water mass flow rates from 5.0 to 20.0 g/s. An air-atomizing nozzle is used for the purpose of controlling air and water mass flow rates. In this study, a new test section is designed to obtain local heat transfer coefficient distributions. Heat transfer characteristics of the mist impinging jet are explained with the aid of flow visualization. Surface temperature and heat transfer coefficient distributions become more uniform as air mass flow rate increases, and that the increases in water flow rate mainly enhance cooling performance. Air mass flow rate weakly influences averaged heat transfer coefficient when water mass flow rate is low, but averaged heat transfer coefficient increases remarkably as air mass flow rate in case of high water mass flow rate.

An experiment is conducted to investigate the effect of air and water mass flow rates on cooling characteristics of mist impinging jet on a flat plate. The air mass flow rate ranges from 0.0 to 3.0 g/s, and water mass flow rates from 5.0 to 20.0 g/s. An air-atomizing nozzle is used fur the purpose of controlling air and water mass flow rates. The test section is designed distinctively from previous works to obtain local heat transfer coefficient distributions. Heat transfer characteristics of the mist impinging jet are explained with the aid of flow visualization. Surface temperature and heat transfer coefficient distributions become more uniform as air mass flow rate increases. The water flow rate provides substantial contribution to enhancement of cooling performance. On the other hand, The air mass flow rate weakly influences the averaged heat transfer rate when the water mass flow rate is low, but the averaged heat transfer rate Increases remarkably with the air mass flow rate in case of the high water mass flow rate.
A torch was designed and fabricated in order to develope the technology of "locally drying underwater welding" by water curtain method. The condition for the formation of the possible local cavity, the mechanical properties and the thermal cycle of welds were investigated in the developed welding equipment compared with in-air welding. The possibility of highly reliable and practical underwater welding was found. The proper local cavity was formed above the water flowrate of 30l/min and CO$_{2}$ gas flowrate of 100l/min. The bead width and penetration depth were increased with increasing welding current. The hardness of weldments is about 160Hv in air welding, but about 210Hv in underwater welding. The elongation and the impact value of underwater weldments are 15% and 6Kg/cm$^{2}$ respectively, which are only half as much as the values of in-air welding. The cooling time in the temperature range from 800.deg.C to 500.deg.C affecting the structure and the hardness of weldments is about 22sec. in air welding while about 10sec. in underwater welding.r welding.

Even in modern times, we are accustomed to the lifestyle of floor heating system in which the floor is heated for warmth like Ondol, which is the traditional Korean heating system. So, this study was designed to understand the preferred floor temperature through the questionnaires targeting the local residents living in K region. This study would also find out the floor temperature which is preferred by young people and old people through the experiments. The findings are as follows; (1) the old people do not prefer the temperature higher than young people do. It was found that the old people prefer the floor temperature of $40^{\circ}C$ under the air temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ or the floor temperature of $41^{\circ}C$ under the air temperature of $20^{\circ}C$. (2) Both young people and old people tend to like the average skin temperature of $35.5^{\circ}C$. The skin temperature which both young and old people like was $35.2^{\circ}C$ under the air temperature of $24^{\circ}C$ and the skin temperature preferred by young people was $0.4^{\circ}C$ higher than that preferred by under the air temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ (p<0.01). (3) It was found in the questionnaires that the young people prefer the higher floor temperature in terms of age and that the people who get older in their 50s or higher tend to prefer the lower temperature.

Urbanization affects the local thermal environment due to the large scale land use changes. To investigate the weather environment change of large scale urban redevelopment, 9 surface temperature and humidity observations were accomplished at Eunpyeong new town area. The observation period is from March 2007 to February 2010. In the center of development area, the air temperature has increased and relative humidity has decreased, by the changes of the land cover and building construction. In the area where the green zone is maintained, air temperature and relative humidity were not changed significantly. The air temperature and relative humidity for the other development observation stations is decreased and increased, respectively. The relative temperature difference between study area and a neighboring rural location was increased during observation periods. The difference is the highest during winter. The urban-rural minimum temperature difference was increased at development area, which means that urbanization affects increasing of minimum temperature in study area.

Climate analysis is important in urban planning for human comfort. Synoptic weather conditions can only resolve the 30% of local variance of wind conditions whereas 70% of the variance arise from local terrain, buildings, and other small scale thermal conditions. Climate Analysis Seoul (CAS) was developed to resolve such micro-scale climate. The Local-scale air temperature Deviation (LD) analysis map from CAS showed the co-existence of built-up and suburban areas in the study region (CR, Cold-air analysis Region) despite its small extent. Temperature, humidity, wind speed, and wind direction were monitored in CR. Hourly observed cooling rate agreed well with LD. Cold air production, transportation, and stagnation was visualized by the observed Vertical Temperature Gradient (VTG) along the small stream in CR. VTG observed at the upper-most stream can be divided into two components: radiative cooling and cold air inflow from outside. Radiative cooling exists regardless of the wind speed whereas cold air inflow occurs only with calm wind. From the regression analyses based on the wind speed, the inflow portion was determined as 84% of radiative cooling. Climate analysis in the future will be able to characterize the changes in cold air by urban development plan to support the human comfort.

Characteristics of laminar lifted flames of propane highly-diluted with nitrogen have been investigated at various temperatures of coflow air. At various fuel mole fractions, the base of laminar lifted flames has the structure of tribrachial (or triple) flame. The liftoff heights are correlated well with the stoichiometric laminar burning velocity considering initial temperature at a given coflow velocity. It shows that lifted flames are stabilized on the basis of the balance mechanism between local flow velocity and the propagation speed of tribrachial flame, regardless of the temperature of coflow and fuel mole fraction. Lifted flames exist for a jet velocity even smaller than the stoichiometric laminar burning velocity, and liftoff velocity increases more rapidly than stoichiometric laminar burning velocity as coflow temperature increases. These can be attributed to the buoyancy effect due to the density difference.

The melting phenomena of horizontal cylindrical ice-bar immersed in water and air concentrically in the cylinder are experimentally investigated for the temperature range from $3.5^{\circ}C\;to\;2.5^{\circ}C$. The shapes of the melting ice-bar are recorded photographically by the shadowgraph method. The shadowgraphs of the melting ice-bar show that water adjacent to the bar flows upward for the temperature range from $3.5^{\circ}C\;to\;5.8^{\circ}C$ while above $5.8^|\circ}C$ the flow is downward direction. The local and average Nusselt numbers are obtoined with the recorded shadowgraphs and comparator. Melting shapes of the ice-bar in the air show the vortex motion in the bottom portion of the bar, whereas no vortex motion appears in the bottom portion when the bar is melted in the water.
To project the effects of climate-induced change on aquatic environments, it is necessary to determine the thermal constraints affecting different fish species and to acquire time series of the current and projected water temperature (WT). Assuming that a nonlinear regression between the WT at individual stations and the ambient air temperature (AT) at nearby weather stations could represent the best relationship of air-water temperature, This study estimates future WT using a general circulation model (GCM). In addition, assuming that the grid-averaged observations of AT correspond to the AT output from GCM simulation, this study constructed a regression curve between the observations of the local WT and the concurrent GCM-simulated surface AT. Because of its low spatial resolution, downscaling is unavoidable. The projected WT under global warming scenario A2 (B2) shows an increase of about $1.6^{\circ}C$ ($0.9^{\circ}C$) for the period 2080-2100. The maximum/minimum WT shows an amount of change similar to that of the mean values. This study will provide guidelines for decision-makers and engineers in climate-induced river environment and ecosystem management.
