Stayed cables are the key components for transmitting loads in cable-stayed bridges. Therefore, it is very important to evaluate the cable force condition to ensure bridge safety. An online condition assessment and anomaly localization method is proposed for cables based on the spatiotemporal correlation of grouped cable forces. First, an anomaly sensitive feature index is obtained based on the distribution characteristics of grouped cable forces. Second, an adaptive anomaly detection method based on the k-nearest neighbor rule is used to perform dissimilarity measurements on the extracted feature index, and such a method can effectively remove the interference of environment factors and vehicle loads on online condition assessment of the grouped cable forces. Furthermore, an online anomaly isolation and localization method for stay cables is established, and the complete decomposition contributions method is used to decompose the feature matrix of the grouped cable forces and build an anomaly isolation index. Finally, case studies were carried out to validate the proposed method using an in-service cable-stayed bridge equipped with a structural health monitoring system. The results show that the proposed approach is sensitive to the abnormal distribution of grouped cable forces and is robust to the influence of interference factors. In addition, the proposed approach can also localize the cables with abnormal cable forces online, which can be successfully applied to the field monitoring of cables for cable-stayed bridges.
A method of calculating the natural frequency corresponding to the first mode of vibration of beams and toll.or structures, with irregular cross sections and with arbitrary boundary conditions was developed and reported by Kim, D. H. in 1974. In this paper, the result of application of this method to the special orthotropic plates with free edges supported on elastic foundation and with a pair of opposite edges under axial forces is presented. Such plates represent the concrete highway slab and hybrid composite pavement of bridges. The reinforced concrete slab can be assumed as a special orthotropic plate, as a close approximation. The highway slab is supported on elastic foundation, with free boundaries. Sometimes, the pair of edges perpendicular to the traffic direction may be subject to the axial forces. The plate is subject to the concentrated load/loads, in the form of traffic loads, or the test equipments. Any method nay be used to obtain the deflection influence surfaces needed for this vibration analysis. Finite difference method is used for this purpose, in this paper. The influence of the modulus of the foundation, the aspect ratio of the plate, and the magnitudes of the axial forces and the concentrated attached mass on the plate, on the natural frequency is thoroughly studied.
Traditional structure analysis method is based on numerical matrix analysis to use the geometries consisting of the structure. The characteristics require a lot of computer memories and computational time. To avoid these weaknesses, new approach to analyze truss structure was suggested by adopting topological load redistribution method. The axial forces to be not structurely analyzed yet against outside loads were redistributed by using nodal equation of equilibrium randomly at each node without constructing global matrix. However, this method could not calculate the axial forces if structure is statically indeterminate due to degree of many indeterminacies. Therefore, to apply the method suggested in this research, all redundancies of truss structure were replaced by unit loads. Each unit load could make the deformation of a whole structure, and a superposition method was finally adopted to solve the simultaneous equations. The axial forces and deflections agreed with the result of commercial software within the relative error of 1 %, whereas in the case that the axial forces are relatively very smaller than others, the relative errors were increased to 2 %. However, as the values were small enough not to be considered, it was practically useful as a structural analysis model. This model will be used for structural analysis of truss type of large structure such as agricultural farming facility.

This paper presents an experimental investigation of asymmetric impact effects on hydroelastic responses. A 1:64 scaled segmented ship model with U-shape open cross-section backbone was newly designed to meet elastic similarity conditions of vertical, horizontal and torsional stiffness simultaneously. Different wave heading angles and wavelengths were adopted in regular wave test. In head wave condition, parametric rolling phenomena happened along with asymmetric slamming forces, the relationship between them was disclosed at first time. The impact forces on starboard and port sides showed alternating asymmetric periodic changes. In oblique wave condition, nonlinear springing and whipping responses were found. Since slamming phenomena occurred, high-frequency bending moments became an important part in total bending moments and whipping responses were found in small wavelength. The wavelength and head angle are varied to elucidate the relationship of springing/whipping loads and asymmetric impact. The distributions of peaks of horizontal and torsional loads show highly asymmetric property.
The FPSO is moored by mooring lines to keep the position of it. The nonlinear motion analysis of the moored FPSO must be carried out in the initial design stage because sea environments affect motion of it. In this paper, the mathematical model is based on the slow motion maneuvering equations in the horizontal plane considering wave, current and wind forces. The direct integration method is employed to estimate wave loads. The current forces are calculated by using mathematical model of MMG. The turret mooring forces are quasi-statically evaluated by using the catenary equation. The coefficients of a model for wind forces are calculated from Isherwood's experimental data and the variation of wind speed is estimated by wind spectrum according to the guidelines of API-RP2A. The nonlinear motions of FPSO are simulated under external forces due to wave, current, wind including mooring forces in time domain.
Wind effects on roofs are usually considered by equivalent static wind loads based on the equivalence of displacement or internal force for structural design. However, for large-span spatial structures that are prone to dynamic instability under strong winds, such equivalent static wind loads may be inapplicable. The dynamic stability of spatial structures under unsteady wind forces is therefore studied in this paper. A new concept and its corresponding method for dynamic instability-aimed equivalent static wind loads are proposed for structural engineers. The method is applied in the dynamic stability design of an actual double-layer cylindrical reticulated shell under wind actions. An experimental-numerical method is adopted to study the dynamic stability of the shell and the dynamic instability originating from critical wind velocity. The dynamic instability-aimed equivalent static wind loads of the shell are obtained.
The importance of considering soil-structure interaction effect in the analysis and design of RC frame buildings is increasingly recognized but still not penetrated to the grass root level owing to various complexities involved. It is well established fact that the soil-structure interaction effect considerably influence the design of multi-storey buildings subjected to lateral seismic loads. The shear walls are often provided in such buildings to increase the lateral stability to resist seismic lateral loads. In the present work, the linear soil-structure analysis of a G+5 storey RC shear wall building frame resting on isolated column footings and supported by deformable soil is presented. The finite element modelling and analysis is carried out using ANSYS software under normal loads as well as under seismic loads. Various load combinations are considered as per IS-1893 (Part-1):2002. The interaction analysis is carried out with and without shear wall to investigate the effect of inclusion of shear wall on the total and differential settlements in the footings due to deformations in the soil mass. The frame and soil mass both are considered to behave in linear elastic manner. It is observed that the soil-structure interaction effect causes significant total and differential settlements in the footings. Maximum total settlement in footings occurs under vertical loads and inner footings settle more than outer footings creating a saucer shaped settlement profile of the footings. Each combination of seismic loads causes maximum differential settlement in one or more footings. Presence of shear wall decreases pulling/pushing effect of seismic forces on footings resulting in more stability to the structures.

This work experimentally and numerically analyzes the flow configurations and the dynamic wind loads on panels of rectangular L/h 5:1 cross section mounted on a structural frame of rectangular bars of L/h 0.5:1, corresponding to a radar structure. The fluid dynamic interaction between panels and frame wakes imposes dynamic loads on the panels, with particular frequencies and Strouhal numbers, different from those of isolated elements. The numerical scheme is validated by comparison with mean forces and velocity spectra of a panel wake obtained by wind tunnel tests. The flow configuration is analyzed through images of the numerical simulations. For a large number of panels, as in the radar array, their wakes couple in either phase or counter-phase configurations, changing the resultant forces on each panel. Instantaneous normal and tangential force coefficients are reported; their spectra show two distinct peaks, caused by the interaction of the wakes. Finally, a scaled model of a rectangular structure comprised of panels and frame elements is tested in the boundary layer wind tunnel in order to determine the influence of the velocity variation with height and the three-dimensionality of the bulk flow around the structure. Results show that the unsteady aerodynamic loads, being strongly influenced by the vortex shedding of the supporting elements and by the global 3-D geometry of the array, differ considerably on a panel in this array from loads acting on an isolated panel, not only in magnitude, but also in frequency.
In a high precision vertical machining center, the estimation of cutting forces is important for many reasons such as prediction of chatter vibration, surface roughness and so on. The cutting forces are difficult to predict because they are very complex and time variant. In order to predict the cutting forces of end-milling processes for various cutting conditions, their mathematical model is important and the model is based on chip load, cutting geometry, and the relationship between cutting forces and chip loads. Specific cutting force coefficients of the model have been obtained as interpolation function types by averaging forces of cutting tests. In this paper the coefficients are obtained by neural network and the results of the conventional method and those of the proposed method are compared. The results show that the neural network method gives more correct values than the function type and that in the learning stage as the omitted number of experimental data increase the average errors increase as well.
