Direct tensile tests were carried out for the tensile members of steel-reinforced polymer concrete with different steel diameters and steel ratios to figure out the effect of tensile strength of polymer concrete. In the experiments, polymer concrete with $1000kgf/cm^2$ of compressive strength, steel with $5200kgf/cm^2$ of tensile strength, and the tensile members with 100 cm of constant length were used. Experimental results showed that, regardless of steel diameters and steel content, the strain energy exerted by concrete till the initial crack was 14-15% of the total energy till the point of yield: The energy was much larger than the one of high-strength cement concrete. The behaviors of tensile members of steel-reinforced polymer concrete were in relatively good agreement with the model suggested by Gupta-Maestrini (1990), which was idealized by the effective tensile stress-strain relationship of concrete and the load-strain relationship of members, while those showed a big difference from CEB-FIP model and ACI-224 equation suggested for the load-displacement relationship that was defined as the cross sectional stiffness of effective axis. Modified ACI-224 model code about the load-displacement relationship for the tensile members of steel-reinforced polymer concrete and theoretical equation for the polymer concrete tensile stiffness of polymer concrete suggested through the results of this study are expected to be used in an accurate structural analysis and design for the polymer concrete structural members.
This paper deals with Poisson's ratio and volumetric strain behavior on loading-reloading terms under uniaxial condition targeting 404 individual rocks, which include sedimentary rocks as sandstone, shale, mudstone, conglomerate and tuff on Kyungsang basin. Poisson' ratio demonstrates increase, convergence and decrease behavior according to the increase in load, which results in preponderance of increase behavior. Volumetric strain demonstrates normal, positive and negative behavior according to the increase in load, which results in preponderance of normal behavior. On practice, Poisson's ratio can be indicative of high or low values with low values of design load. Consequently, a careful selection of results in in-situ sample experiment should be made and varying design conditions should be considered.
Taking into account the geometrical and material nonlinearities, an ultimate behavior of reinforced concrete cooling tower shell in hyperbolic configuration is presented. The design wind pressures suggested in the guidelines of the US (ACI) and Germany (VGB), with or without the effect of internal suction, are employed in the analysis to examine the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of each design wind pressure. The geometrical nonlinearity is incorporated by the Green-Lagrange strain tensor. The nonlinear features of concrete, such as the nonlinear stress-strain relation in compression, the tensile cracking with the smeared crack model, an effect of tension stiffening, are taken into account. The biaxial stress state in concrete is represented by an improved work-hardening plasticity model. From the perspective of quality of wind pressures, the two guidelines are determined as highly correlated each other. Through the extensive analysis on the Niederaussem cooling tower in Germany, not only the ultimate load is determined but also the mechanism of failure, distribution of cracks, damage processes, stress redistributions, and mean crack width are examined.
Shell structures are very interesting from the design point of view and these are well recognized in the scientific literature. In this paper the analysis of the buckling loads and stability paths of a sandwich conical shell with unsymmetrical faces under combined load based on the assumptions of moderately large deflections (geometrically nonlinear theory) is considered and elastic-plastic properties of the material of the faces are taken into considerations. External load is assumed to be two-parametrical one and it is assumed that the shell deforms into the plastic range before buckling. Constitutive relations in the analysis are those of the Nadai-Hencky deformation theory of plasticity and Prandtl-Reuss plastic flow theory with the H-M-H (Huber-Mises-Hencky) yield condition. The governing stability equations are obtained by strain energy approach and Ritz method is used to solve the equations with the help of analytical-numerical methods using computer.
This study was under taken as an analysis of failure mode in a railroad bed reconstructed with miniaturized Geotextile Container after being destroyed by heavy rain. It assesses the practical use of the bag shaped Geotextile Container method in the rehabilitation of destroyed roadbeds. The failure mode was assessed using the laboratory model tests to determine the following criteria: Strain of Geotextile Container, Vertical & Horizontal displacements of Geotextile Container layer, and the transmitting load effects due to the applied load. The Geotextile Container layer was failed as a Block Failure type, although there was some variation in the results between the saturated and unsaturated conditions. The main failure was caused by the reduction of the interface friction between Geotextile Containers. The result of this mobilizes the significant horizontal displacement and the ultimate failure of the Geotextile Container layer. The strain on the wet Geotextile Container was occurred about two times greater than that of dry condition.

Machine material and structural strain are critical factors for appraising mechanical properties and safety. Particularly in three and four-point bending tests, which appraise the deflection and flexural strain of an object due to external force, measurements are made by the crosshead movement or deflection meter of a universal testing machine. The Digital Image Correlation (DIC) method is one of the non-contact measurement methods. It uses the image analyzing method that compares the reference image with the deformed image for measuring the displacement and strain of the objects caused by external force. Accordingly, the advantage of this method is that the object's surface roughness, shape, and temperature have little influence. However, its disadvantage is that it requires extensive time to compare the reference image with the deformed image for measuring the displacement and strain. In this study, an algorithm is developed for DIC that can improve the speed of image analysis for measuring the deflection and strain of an object caused by a three-point bending load. To implement this algorithm for improving the speed of image analysis, LabVIEW 2010 was used. Furthermore, to evaluate the accuracy of the developed fast correlation algorithm, the deflection of an aluminum specimen under a three-point bending load was measured by using the universal test machine and DIC measurement system.
The purpose of this study is to examine wheel load variations on the bridge. It had been reported that wheel load variations involved un-sprung mass, sprung mass and train running speed, but there are no examples that measured in the running speed actuality track. In this experiment, Attach measurement sensor to equal distance on the track and measured wheel loads by using a dynamic shear strain technique.

This paper proposes closed-form plastic limit load solutions for elbow with local wall thinning at extrados under internal pressure. This work was performed using 3-dimensional, small strain FE analyses based on elastic-perfectly plastic materials. The wide range of elbow and local wall thinning geometries are considered. For systematic analyses for effect of axial thinning extent on limit loads, two limiting cases are considered; a sufficiently long thinning, and the circumferential part-through surface crack. Then, the closed-form plastic limit load solutions for intermediate thinning are obtained by using result of two limiting cases. The effect of axial thinning extent for elbow on plastic limit load is highlighted by comparing with that for straight pipes. Although the proposed limit load solutions are developed for the case when local wall thinning exist in the center of elbow, it is also shown that they can be applied to the case when local wall thinning exists anywhere within elbow.

This research deals with thermo-electro-mechanical buckling analysis of the sandwich nano-beams with face-sheets made of functionally graded carbon nano-tubes reinforcement composite (FG-CNTRC) based on the nonlocal strain gradient elasticity theory (NSGET) considering various higher-order shear deformation beam theories (HSDBT). The sandwich nano-beam with FG-CNTRC face-sheets is subjected to thermal and electrical loads while is resting on Pasternak's foundation. It is assumed that the material properties of the face-sheets change continuously along the thickness direction according to different patterns for CNTs distribution. In order to include coupling of strain and electrical field in equation of motion, the nonlocal non-classical nano-beam model contains piezoelectric effect. The governing equations of motion are derived using Hamilton principle based on HSDBTs and NSGET. The differential quadrature method (DQM) is used to calculate the mechanical buckling loads of sandwich nano-beam as well as critical voltage and temperature rising. After verification with validated reference, comprehensive numerical results are presented to investigate the influence of important parameters such as various HSDBTs, length scale parameter (strain gradient parameter), the nonlocal parameter, the CNTs volume fraction, Pasternak's foundation coefficients, various boundary conditions, the CNTs efficiency parameter and geometric dimensions on the buckling behaviors of FG sandwich nano-beam. The numerical results indicate that, the amounts of the mechanical critical load calculated by PSDBT and TSDBT approximately have same values as well as ESDBT and ASDBT. Also, it is worthy noted that buckling load calculated by aforementioned theories is nearly smaller than buckling load estimated by FSDBT. Also, similar aforementioned structure is used to building the nano/micro oscillators.

Experimental and analytical studies are performed on the mechanical behavior of concrete-filled tubular(CFT) truss girders for different f/L ratios. Bending tests are conducted on two CFT truss girder specimens to determine fundamental structural characteristics such as the strength and deformation properties. Nonlinear material models for CFT members subjected to an axial compressive force are compared in this paper by using the nonlinear finite element program, ABAQUS. Previous researchers have proposed several nonlinear stress-strain models of confined concrete. In this study, the nonlinear analyses are performed applying several stress-strain models for confined concrete proposed by Mander, Sakino, Han, Susantha and Ellobody, and the results are compared with the experimental results in terms of load-deflection and load-strain relationships. Based on the comparisons of the load-deflection relationships, the models proposed by Mander and Susantha provide a maximum load about 12.0~13.8% higher and that by Sakino gives a maximum load about 7.6% higher than the experimental results. The models proposed by Han and Ellobody give a maximum load only about 0.2~1.2% higher than the test results, showing the best agreement among the proposed stress-strain models. However, the load-strain relations predicted by the existing models generally provide conservative results exhibiting larger strains than the experimental data.
