  • This paper proposes an novel dc power supply using modified multilevel ac/dc converter. The output voltage of the power supply can be disconnected from and reapplied to the load rapidly. Therefore the power supply is suitable for a load having frequent short circuit such as ion source. The proposed scheme improves the performance, efficiency, and reliability and reduces the cost of the conventional power supply system for an ion beam acceleration.

  • This paper presents a family of soft-switching DC-DC converters with a simple auxiliary circuit consisting of a coupled winding and a pair of auxiliary switch and diode. The auxiliary circuit is activated in a short interval and thus the circulating conduction losses are small. With the auxiliary circuit, zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) and zero-current-switching are achieved for the main and auxiliary switches respectively, over wide input voltage range and load variation. In addition, the reverse-recovery problem of diodes is significantly alleviated because of the leakage inductor. Furthermore, the coupled inductor simultaneously serves as the main and auxiliary inductors, contributing to reduced magnetic component in comparison with the conventional zero-voltage-transition (ZVT) converters. Experimental results based on a 500 W prototype buck circuit validate the advantages and effectiveness of the proposed magnetic coupling ZVS converter.

  • This paper describes the method of diagnosis for power transformer, using vibration signal analysis. Vibration signal to be made from transformer is the liner combination of load current, applied voltage and internal temperature. This study measured the vibration signal by before and after short circuit test of the transformer. And the signal analysis and comparison was carried out for AR modeling and frequency analysis.

  • A protection scheme for series active compensator is presented and analyzed in this paper. The proposed series active compensator operated as a high impedance K($\Omega$) to the fundamentals when short-circuit faults occur in the power distribution system, and two control strategies are proposed in this paper The first is the method by detecting the fundamental source current through the p-q theory, the second is the method by detecting the fundamental component of load current in Synchronous Reference Frame(SRF). When the short-circuit faults occur in the power distribution system, the proposed scheme can protect the series active compensator without additional protection circuits. The validity of the Proposed Protection scheme was investigated through experimental results.

  • It is necessary to improve the time efficiency in the high power testing station because tests are mainly performed by high-priced equipment. Minimizing a human error through building the database of relevant standards is possible to expect reliable tests. And also, application program that is properly customized for the certain laboratory's power system will help test engineer to easily analyze the phenomenon that is happened in short-circuit and load switching tests. This paper introduces the several functions of the application program that is developed in order to realize these requirements.

  • This paper describes a feasibility analysis result of STATCOM application for the Jeiu-Haenam HVDC system. The Jeju-Haenam HVDC system is one of the typical HVDC system interconnected with the low short-circuit-ratio AC system, which is vulnerable to the commutation failure due to the AC voltage variation. STATCOM has been considered as an effective reactive-power compensator to increase short-circuit-ratio of the interconnected AC system. In this study, a simulation model of Jeju-Haenam HVDC system with STATCOM was developed using PSCAD/EMTDC. The developed simulation model was utilized to analyze the dynamic performance analysis of Jeju-Haenam HVDC system with STATCOM. The analysis results show that STATCOM can improve the dynamic performance of Jeju-Haenam HVDC system, such as load-change recovery performance and fault recovery performance.

  • The Co-Gen System which maximize energy efficiency was installed at the industrial plants at the initial stage. However Small Scale Co-Gen System was expanded even to the general end-users such as housing and building owing to ESCO business recently. For this SSC, inter-connected operation to the utility is desirable due to voltage and frequency fluctuation following to unbalance between power output and load. Then voltage unbalance with utility system, frequency, increase of short circuit capacity, reclosing, and ALTS etc. should be fully considered for the inter-connected operation. Voltage variation, protection coordination, Co-Generators single running, and short circuit capacity should also be solved. To research the method and solve the problems through the field test and application, we study individual customers Co-Gen System as a case study.

  • A protection scheme for Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) is presented and analyzed in this paper. The proposed UPQC has the series active power filter operated as a high impedance k($\Omega$) to the fundamentals when short-circuit faults occur in the power distribution system, and three control strategies are proposed in this paper. The first is the method by detecting the fundamental source current through the p-q theory, the second is the method by detecting the fundamental component of load current in Synchronous Reference Frame(SRF) and the third is the method by detecting the input voltage. When the short-circuit fault occur in the power distribution system, the proposed scheme protects the UPQC without additional protection circuits. The validity of proposed protection scheme is investigated through simulation results.

  • Recently, power-electronics equipments or machine that microprocessor is included and computers have been installed continuously in industrial process or region of electronics customer. So concern for power quality, especially sags has been increased. Because those equipments are very sensitive to sags. The sag is phenomenon that magnitude of load voltage temporarily decreases because of power system fault. If a certain equipment in industrial process have any trouble result from sag, it can cause utility to be charged for enormous economics loss. Therefore it need to analyze the characteristic of sag and then mitigation method for sags in distribution system in oder to increase reliability. This paper gives an overview of sags characteristic due to short circuit fault in distribution system and after a general discussion of the various forms mitigation, gives a sags mitigation method with concentrating on mitigation-device interface method, especially FCL that is Fault Current Limiter.
